Page 2 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 29, 2017 From the Pastor s Desk Loving neighbor loves God What does it mean to us to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and our neighbor as well? We understand the word love and its connotation. Man is not an island and so he/she is born in a family and that is how one experiences love at birth and gradually begins to grow in love. The love that we have experienced and the love that God has laid down in the commandments differ. Our love for the other is conditional or limited and restricted to our family, relations, and friends, but God s love is unconditional which goes far beyond our measure of love. We try to comprehend that love in our lives and we know our shortfall in achieving it. How can we love our neighbor so that we are able to love God? In order to love our neighbor we should know who our neighbor is? Our neighbor is a fellow disciple in the family of God. Have you ever wondered how to love someone as God commands? Loving others can be easy or hard. It may not be a great challenge to love a friend or family member if the sacrifice is not great. But loving one s neighbor cannot be limited to what is easy or convenient. In the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus makes it clear that a neighbor is anyone in our path who needs our help, whether helping is easy or not, convenient or not, rendering such help can sometimes be dangerous and financially costly. Therefore consider the circumstances of the person before you and treat that person the way you would want to be treated if you were in that person s shoes. To act in that person s best interests, regardless of what you feel or don t feel, is to love as Jesus intends. When we treat others in this way, what normally happens is that our feelings toward them begin to change and become increasingly in line with and support God s will; that is; we begin to feel more loving toward them. If we wish to be loved, we must give love. If we wish to be respected, we must respect all persons - even those we dislike. If we wish others to speak kindly of us, we must speak kindly of them and avoid gossip. If we want strong marriages, we must be loyal and faithful to our spouses. If we wish to be fulfilled in our lives, we must share generously with others. If we wish to reap the rewards of our Heavenly Father's love, we must truly love all His people. Therefore loving your neighbor is loving your God. -Fr. Mario +Baby bo les and dona ons for the Women s Center pro-life work should be brought to class this Monday night. +Parents/guardians are encouraged to a end the series on the Holy Spirit talked about elsewhere in this bulle n.
