Deacon s Thoughts Let Us Pray 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us pray without ceasing and Philippians 4:6-7 tells us to Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Prayer is a relationship with God, to give thanks for the blessings He bestows upon us. Prayer is for the times we are in need and an opportunity to speak God about the things that are on our hearts. There is so much to pray for, especially in our current times, challenges in the Church and in our personal lives. Yet, we don t have time to pray. Social media, sports, children, friends, work, ministry and some relaxing time keeps us too busy! We are so busy that when we do sit down to pray, our minds are pondering and thinking of the things we could be doing. Sound familiar? Life without prayer is like a car without gasoline, we can t move forward! To pray is to open our hearts to Jesus and be conscious of being in His presence and desiring to know and love him each time. Prayer requires work and dedication. And if we set aside the time for prayer it will produce great changes in our lives and in the world. Prayer is not only a time we set aside each day but something we do as we work, exercise, drive, waiting for appointments, etc., then Jesus will be our constant companion. We then will be able to turn to Him so easily when we need Him most in those most difficult and discerning moments. In those times when we are asked to pray for others and the world. Although, we can pray at almost anytime, probably the 2 most important times are: first thing in the morning. We can give thanks for the new day and place ourselves into the Lord s care for the day and ask Him to teach us what His will for us may be. We can ask God to give us His grace to do it and thank Him for it. Second is at the end of each day when we look back at the day and give thanks to God for it, contemplating our shortcomings, wrongdoings and sins, forgiving our trespassers and placing ourselves into God s hands for a restful night. Prayer is the key to transforming lives, but that commitment to spend time each day in prayer is not always easy to make. Time in prayer, prayer for self, family, community and the world is so needed. Through our prayer, Christ works through us. On our own we can do nothing, but with Christ, we can do our part to bring healing, change and peace to all those around us. Prayer makes it all possible. When we make time for prayer we will experience a transformation in every aspect our lives. We will have more energy and more patience. Sins and temptations begin to weaken and diminish, petty bitterness and complaints, unforgiveness, fear of the opinions of others, countless personal faults start to fade away. Prayer will have an effect on our other prayers as well, which will all become more meaningful. Deacon Gino Scripture Meditation "His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things." Jesus felt pity... and so he taught? Yes. Jesus gave his teachings out of love and concern. He gave them because he knew that they were what his followers needed. He did not teach in order to control, manipulate, brainwash, or coerce us. He did not teach in order to show his wisdom or prove his superiority. Jesus gave us his teachings as a way of guiding us, protecting us, and walking alongside us--like a good shepherd. It's important for us to welcome the teachings of Christ and his body, the church, in this spirit. Too often, people misconstrue church teaching as something restrictive or controlling instead of understanding that Jesus handed down these teachings to us in order to help us find happiness and fulfillment. When we live according to church teaching, we are doing more than just being "good." We are also staying close to the shepherd of whom today's psalm speaks: "In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul." These benefits are ours when we follow the voice of the One who loves us. Sometimes, we may not like what the voice is saying. Sometimes we may be drawn towards a different path or think that the grass is greener elsewhere. But by humbly acknowledging that the Shepherd--and his church--have great wisdom and a unique perspective to share, we will be led in the right direction. Though it may feel like a sacrifice at first, ultimately this loyalty to the flock will enable us to enjoy the contentment of those who declare, "The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want."

Knight s of Columbus Membership Drive The Knights of Columbus Council 6201 on Bartley Road is always looking for new brothers to join us in our endeavors to provide for those less fortunate. Our Tootsie Roll Drive in the spring raises money for intellectually disabled children and our Charity Golf event, also in the spring, raises money for numerous organizations including Deborah Hospital. During the holidays we assemble and donate food baskets to those in need in our community. We also have social events in which families are welcome and our council is a great way to meet other men in our community and make new friends.
