Henry Fl int, first Teacher and, subsequently, second Pastor of the Tow n of Braintree. Four individuals of the name of Flint emigrate d to New England, and settled in Massachusetts, before 1650, viz., Thomas and William, of Salem, Henry of Braintree, and Thoma s of Concord. Henry of Braintree was a clergyman. There is a c haracteristic pretence of a biography of him, by Cotton Mather, in the Magnalia, Book III, Chap. 19. His widow, Margery, wa s sister of President Hoar, of Harvard College. Henry Flint die d April 27, 1668, aged sixty-one years. His widow survived hi m nearly twenty years, dying March 10, From Henry Flint a nd his wife, Margery, has descended a numerous and very distingu ished progeny. In forwarding the movement for a tablet to the m emory of Henry Flint, it became an interesting question to ascer tain whether he had any descendants now living of the name of Fl int. It has finally been concluded that such is not the case. According to the Braintree Records, the Rev. Henry had five s ons, three of whom died in infancy. Another, Seth, died whe n a sophomore in Harvard College. The eldest son, Rev. Josiah F lint of Dorchester, died Sept. 16, 1680, leaving four children, Henry, Thomas, Dorothy and Josiah. Thomas died without issue ; Dorothy married Edmund Quincy; Josiah, a mariner of Boston, di ed leaving only one child, Esther, who married Stephen Richard s of Boston; Henry, the well-known "Tutor" Flynt of Harvard Coll ege, died unmarried in The male line of descent from Rev. Henry Flint then became extinct. See Suffolk Deeds, 1. 44, f. 197; 1. 42, fol [Source: Charles Francis Adams, "Rev. 8 Generation No SAMUEL 5 DWIGHT (NATHANIEL 4, ANNA 3 FLINT, HENRY 2 FLYNT, THOMAS 1 ) 61,62,63,64,65 was born 1695 in Northampton, Massachusetts Bay Province 66, and died 1783 in Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut 66. He married MARY LYMAN 67,68,69, in Northampton, Mass 71, daughter of JOHN LYMAN and MINDWELL POMEROY. She was born 1696 in Northampton, MA 71, and died 1776 in Enfield, CT 71,72,73. He lived for a time in the Connecticut towns of Middletown, Somers, and Suffield. He married Mary Lyman in 1719 and they had nine children. More About SAMUEL DWIGHT: Record Change: July 18, Notes for MARY LYMAN: [ FTW] The birth of Mary Lyman went unrecorded in Northampton records and therefore th ere is no absolute certainty that John Lyman, Jr., and Mindwell (Sheldon) Pomer oy were her parents. Most genealogists--but by no means all--place John Jr. an d Mindwell as her parents because Northampton records show no births in this fa mily between 1693, when a son John was born, and 1698, when a daughter Esther w as born. Mary is given a birth year of 1695 or 1696 and inserted into this fam ily line. This seeming arbitrariness might indicate that her grandparentage (L ieut. John Lyman and Dorcas Plumb) is also suspect, and that may very well be, but that the immigrant ancestor, Richard Lyman, and his wife, Sarah Osborne, we re her great-grandparents there can be no doubt: Richard and Sarah's three son s (Richard, Lieut. John, and Robert) were the progenitors of all males and fema les in Northampton named Lyman in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centurie s.
