4 Dear Friends, Vacation Bible School will be July It is not too late to sign up for this exciting time for children ages VBS runs from 8:30 a.m. until noon and is free to all. That week there will be an afternoon summer camp which lasts from noon until 5:30 p.m. The cost for the summer camp is $60.00 per child. You may register on-line or at the church office. I will be taking some time in late July to be present for the birth of my sixth grandchild (a boy!) - date to be determined. At the June vestry meeting the vestry accepted the resignations of Clint Burchfield and Elizabeth Register. We thank both Clint and Elizabeth for their willingness to serve on the vestry, the work they did as members of the vestry, and look forward to their continued participation in the life of Christ Church. Our congratulations to Reilly and Andee Bourgeois who were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, June 23rd; and to Karen McAlister and Molly Harris who were united in Holy Matrimony on June 25th; and to Vance and Denise Frickey who renewed their wedding vows on June 30th. Our congratulations to Patrick, Megan, Francisco, and Augustine Martinez as they welcome a daughter/ sister into the family. Florence Margaret Martinez was born on June 21st. 5 Nursery Care is available for young children on Sunday's during the 10:00am worship service. July 4, 2018 Church office Closed Join us on Sundays following the 10:00am worship service. Each Tuesday at 2:00pm a group gathers in the fellowship hall to explore the appointed lessons for the coming Sunday. 4

6 The Alliance for Health continues to serve those in our community who cannot afford their medications or medical supplies. As a mission of Christ Church we believe in sustaining quality of life by facilitating access to life-sustaining medications. We continue to provide this assistance through Social Workers and Case Managers at Hancock Medical Center (now Oschner), Hancock County Human Resource Center, Hancock Housing Resource Center, St. Gerard Community Outreach, Hancock County Food Panty, and St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy. Susan Stevens is the facilitator for this mission. Sunday at 9:00am "Godly Play" will resume in the Fall. 5

7 BOOK SHARING The lazy days of summer just might open up some time to read. Don't forget to check out our shared book shelf. If you have a "must read" book, feel free to place it on the shelf to share. If you see one you haven't read yet, go ahead and take it home. 10 Altar Flowers Throughout the year we offer the opportunity to dedicate Sunday altar flowers in memory, celebration, or in honor of a loved one, birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Please sign up as you leave church or drop by the office Monday- Friday between 8am - 1pm. There are open dates on the July 2018 sign-up chart. 9

11 Cancelled for Summer Break Thursdays at 12:00pm Centering Prayer Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. Rather, it adds depth of meaning to all prayer and facilitates the movement from more active kinds of prayer into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ. We will advise when sessions resume. 10

14 July 22, 2018 Performing Artists - 4:00pm Prof. Hill s Think System Prof. Hill s Think System is an acoustic string trio that performs a variety of popular songs in folk, bluegrass, and Dixieland styles. The group is made up of Steven Harper (guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin); Ben Harper (guitar); and Daniel Munyan (bass). The group likes to subtitle itself The Time-Traveling Strong Band, owing to its repertoire of modern and old-timey favorites. The band takes its name from the Broadway show and movie The Music Man, in which Professor Harold Hill forms a boys band using his revolutionary Think System. Professor Hill s method is all about the spirit and fun of performing. Prof. Hill s Think System approaches their music with similar spirit, fun, and 13

15 excitement. Steven Harper, of Heather and the Monkey King, has been performing for over 30 years on guitar and various other string instruments. His brother, Ben Harper, is best known for his work with the Celtic band Mithril. Daniel Munyan, a former student of Steven s, is currently majoring in music at Pearl River Community College. Visual Artist - 5:00pm Randy Hall Randy Hall began his photography journey in 2008 when he discovered the great joy of being out with his camera on a calm morning watching a sunrise or birds and wildlife start their day. To be able to capture or at least witness the sunrise, sunset, the pose or action of wildlife and stop time in a fraction of a second and share what he sees with someone else is challenging but rewarding. Randy won "Best of Show" at Art in the Pass this year and was selected to be at the Three Rivers Art and Craft show in Covington, LA this November. 14

16 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< "4th Sunday at 4" is Christ Episcopal Church's gift to the Coastal Community. As such, "4th Sunday at 4" is free and open to the public. Also, no artist, performing or visual, is charged a fee to participate, nor is any commission or percentage taken by the church. All money in the "donation basket" is given to the performers, and all payments for art go directly to the artist. A church is seldom in a position to engage an entire community, but it can do its part by supporting one segment of a community.
