2 The Gospel According to Greg Greg Taylor They will know we are Christians by our love famous campfire song at many a church camp years ago. I have sung the words to that tune many, many times, and yet I sometimes wonder if contemporary Christians really get the message? Does the world really know us by our love? I m reminded of the prayer a young person once prayed, LORD, help the bad people to become good, and help the good people to start being nice. They will know we are Christians by our love. In his excellent book The Grace and Truth Paradox, Randy Alcorn shares the following in chapter one: A friend sat down in a small London restaurant and picked up a menu. What will it be? the waiter asked. Studying the puzzling selections, my friend said, Uhh... The waiter smiled. Oh, a Yank. What part of the states are you from? He hadn t said a word. But he d already given himself away. In the first century, Christ s followers were also recognized immediately. What gave them away? It wasn t their buildings they had none. It wasn t their programs they had none. It wasn t their political power they had none. It wasn t their slick publications, TV networks, bumper stickers or celebrities they had none. What was it? Acts 4:33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all They testified to the truth about Christ and lived His grace. Truth was the food they ate and the message they spoke. Grace was the air they breathed and the life they lived. The world around them had never seen anything like it. It still hasn t. (pp ) I hope and pray First Christian Church and the people who represent it always strive to live out the balance Jesus mastered He was full of grace and truth. I hope we always look for ways to impact lives for Christ in real and meaningful ways, while never being afraid to proclaim the truth of God s word. If we can make this hope a reality, then the world will surely know we are followers of Christ... by our love! See you on Sunday, and don t forget about our month long Walk through the Bible program on Wednesday evenings as part of the Families at First program. Each evening, our presenter Doug Maris, will help us better understand and recall the truth of God s Word focusing on the Old Testament. You will not want to miss this very unique opportunity. Let us develop an attitude of gratitude and it will glorify God and give us a better life. Decide to become thankful, there is plenty in our lives to be thankful for, if we just look around. Beginning and ending each day with thanksgiving is a good thing to do. Being generally thankful is good, but voicing thankfulness for specific things is even better. If we focus on good things, even if we can only think of a few, those are the things that seem big to us. Looking forward to seeing Kenny Honecker on the 17th with many songs of our past ringing from the walls. Then on March the 3rd, we ll be blessed with our old friend Ted Long, singing songs of a message from Jesus. It will be a fine day of worship! Our good and talented friend Julie McClarey, will delight us with her wonderful piano playing as she has in the past on the 17th of March. We have three fine programs for the group. The righteous face many troubles, but the Lord rescues them from each of them each and every one. Psalm 34:19 On March 23rd we ll be traveling to the White Pine State Park to enjoy good food and the songs of Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline. April the 16th we ll go down to Bement for a good time at the Bement Country Opry with Ken Honecker and crew. On the 20th of May we ll travel to Moline and enjoy the Big Bands Music of the past. This is always a fine trip! Then in June we ll see Showboat at Sullivan s Little Theater on the 20th. Get ready for some exciting times with us in our travels. Search for the Lord and for His strength, and keep on searching. Psalm 105:4 Since change is unavoidable, we need to understand how it affects us so that we press forward into it rather than fight it and open the door to strife. When we embrace change rather than resist it, we are more likely to continue to live in harmony with others, thereby unleashing the flow of God s power and blessing in our lives. Change means dealing with the unknown. Please remember to pray for our troops!

Todd Beavers with Haitian Christian Outreach has asked that we be creative when we pack the items, plastic tubs are needed, Ziploc bags are used for supplies, even to pack clothing for a trip.
