Last week, we collected over $10,000 for the special Hurricane Collection and nearly the same amount in our weekly collection!! 4 Did We forget September 11, 2001? (Last year I wrote my own personal thoughts and remembrances of 9/11. This year I wanted to give you a different perspective. The following words are from Brittany Hughes. I ask you to consider the following on this 16 th Anniversary of 9/11). The first recorded casualty on the morning of 9/11-01 was a Roman Catholic priest and NYFD Chaplain, Father Mychal Judge, OFM. Father Mychal had gone through the burning towers and blessed firefighters, hearing their last confessions and losing his life in the process. What a hero! What a sign of selflessness! What a true priest who put the lives of his flock first before his own needs, before his own life! A true chaplain who laid down his life for his flock! God speed Father Mychal, I am certain you were there to welcome home all those who lost their lives on that tragic day in New York City, in Washington, DC and in the field of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Sixteen years ago today 2,606 were killed at the World Trade Center, 125 died in Washington, DC and 40 more people lost their lives on United Flight #93 as it crashed into a field in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Do you remember what happened after that? There was hardly a car without an American flag bumper sticker. Today we can hardly fly Old Glory without someone getting offended. Sixteen years ago we watched New York Firefighters raise an American flag over the rubble in Ground Zero, today, left-wing rioters burn American flags in the streets. Sixteen years ago today, Americans were introduced to Islamic extremism for the very first time, today we cannot even use the words Islamic extremism without being accused of bigotry and hate. Sixteen years ago today our nation was attacked by 19 Al Qaeda terrorists, all of whom were foreign and at least two, illegals. At that time we were outraged, but today if you dare to say immigrants should be thoroughly vetted, that foreign visitors must obey our visa laws and that illegal aliens should be removed, you are a hateful, xenophobic, Nazi. Sixteen years ago today, we promised we would never forget, but we did. Every time some bleeding heart liberal apologizes for Islamic violence, every time a sanctuary city leaves us open to foreign threats, deliberately ignoring our immigration laws, every time some athlete or overpaid celebrity gets famous over insulting a nation that has given them so much, we forget! This is why we should not care about the inconvenience of travel bans, strict airport security, excessive border protection, hurt feelings or offended individuals who dare to call us Islamaphobes, xenophobes or haters. A promise was made that day for the great United States of America to never forget or allow this to happen again on our soil. Whatever it takes for no one to ever have to jump to their death, is the cost of being an American! God bless their souls! Sixteen years ago today, 2771 innocent people died in a terrorist attack on American soil. And we forgot and it is high time we starting remembering!! May God bless those who lost loved ones on 9/11 and whose hearts ache each and every year on this day And may God in His mercy bless the United States of America.

Saint kateri connections The young adults of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish have formed a group to share faith and friendship called Saint Kateri Connections. It is for anyone between the ages of 21 and 30. Meetings will be held at Saint Kateri Church in Sparta on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. Bishop Serratelli will be the main celebrant at Mass at The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Paterson on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 4:00pm. Information will be sent from the Office of Family Life once your registration has been processed. Bishop s annual appeal The 2017 Bishop s Annual Appeal is currently underway. This year, the theme of the Appeal is In Giving, We Receive. By being generous with our God-given gifts, we not only help people in need, but we also help ourselves. Jesus reminds us of the blessings that come from being good stewards. For you convenience, you are able to make an on-line gift to the 2017 Bishop s Annual Appeal by going to and following the instructions. 6 Guardian Angel center Saint Joseph Church has been approached repeatedly for the creation of a daily care center for seniors who are unable to remain in their own homes unattended. Due to the closing of two senior day care centers in Sussex County the need for care of this nature has become increasingly urgent. The individuals in need of this care are not yet and may never be in need of institutionalization if they are able to receive help from a center such as the one we propose to open in the (former) Saint Joseph Regional School. We were asked to help one senior in need of daytime care when the family was informed that the center she was in was closing. The family need was tremendous and urgent since the senior was not able to stay in the home alone and the family could not leave work indefinitely to provide the daily care she needed. We agreed to look into a way of providing care for her in our school facility for a short period while the family searched for another venue for her care. We immediately received requests from other seniors in similar situations asking for help. After six months of searching we were unable to find another organization that could help these individuals. They are suffering because the County and private sources are unable to meet their needs. These seniors are suffering from mental dementia, Parkinson s, Alzheimer s, and other age related disabilities. The care needed cannot be accommodated by the current list of social Senior Centers in the area In answer to the dilemmas and problems caring for these seniors presented, we decided to approach the idea of using the space in our unused school building to do this work uninterrupted and in its entirety. The result of that research will be our senior care program. The new center will occupy the first floor (barrier free) school area of St. Joseph School including the offices, nurses office, library, gymnasium and outdoor gardens. We will have 3,500 sq ft devoted to the care of these individuals. The space is being donated for a trial period (term to be determined) on the condition that we can find funding to maintain the program. The program is meant to be self-supporting by the individuals in the program and from private sources. It is not meant to be supported by the parish of Saint Joseph Church or by local government funding. This space will meet all their current needs and allows us to accommodate up to fifty seniors in need of our care. The future of this program and of these seniors and their families can be very positive if we work together as a community. The community has reached out to help support this work at our public forum and we have had very encouraging conversations with Foundations interested in funding this work with seniors in this need. The only real obstacle to our center operating full time and serving all Northern New Jersey residents in need, is the seed money to buy equipment. The facility is near perfect and was recently remodeled so we do not need to do much in the way of work on the physical plant. The equipment needs are also modest for startup, amounting to approximately $80-95,0000. We are seeking partners to help in three ways: First, financially helping us raise the seed funds, secondly to seek members of an advisory board to help guide the project and lastly friends that can connect us to individuals that are capable of helping with either the first or second or both of our listed help needs. If this project peeks the desire to help in this humanitarian way, allow us to invite you to partner with us in this endeavor, please review our Funding Budget, our Project Scope of Services Narrative, Annual Budget Narrative and supporting documentation. All funds raised will go directly to the establishment of a Senior Day Care Center at Saint Joseph Church. This center will help the residents of the community without regards to their religious affiliation or any other determination factors. Right to life Sunday, October 1 st is Right to Life Sunday. There will be a Life Chain at the Green in downtown Newton on the Circle sponsored by The National Life Chain of New Jersey from 2:00-3:30pm which will include prayer and peaceful demonstration.
