If everyone gave just $3 more each week, we would meet out goal! Spiritual book club Tuesday, August 16 th at 7:00pm will be the first week for the Book Club. It will be held in the Community Center. Hospice volunteer If you would like to become a Hospice Volunteer, there will be 8 consecutive classes on Wednesday and Friday mornings 10:00am to 12:00 noon. Classes will be September 7 th, 9 th, 14 th, 16 th, 21 st, 23 rd, 28 th and Graduation September 30 th. Classes will be held at the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center, 61 Spring Street (1 st floor) Newton. The Hospice Volunteer Training Course is Free-of-Charge. Upon completion, participants are Certified Hospice Volunteers. Food pantry Every person (children & adults) is asked to show their charity by bringing at least one can of food to church every week. Our food pantry is still in need of: Coffee, Mayonnaise, cooking oil, milk, detergent, paper towels, sugar, white pasta sauce, Mandarin oranges, men's body wash and toilet paper. Please NO outdated food! Sussex county fair The Sussex County Fair is happening all this week. Please support the Knights of Columbus Food Booth (near the beer tent). Come have great food at a very reasonable cost, support our Knights and say hello to your fellow parishioners! Day of prayer Join the Legion of Mary in a day of prayer on Saturday, August 13 th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Branchville. The day begins at 11:00am with Holy Mass (please bring your own lunch. A Rosary Procession, Adoration, and Benediction will follow at 3:00pm). All Are Welcome!

4 The truth of Islam continued... What does the Quran say about Jesus? For Muslims, Jesus Christ is not God only Allah is God. Allah never married nor had any sons or daughters. Then one could ask: Then who is Jesus? According to the Quran (which is made up of 114 chapters and 6666 verses), Jesus is mentioned 25 times while the prophet Muhammad is mentioned only 4 times. Interestingly enough, no women's names are mentioned in the Quran (not Muhammad s mother s name, his wives or any female children) except for Mary, the Mother of Jesus (Mariam). An entire chapter (3) is dedicated to the Family of Mariam and another chapter (19) is entitled Mariam. It is very interesting that the Quran speaks so much about the mother of Jesus. (Chapter 3, verses 34ff) states that Mary was born without original sin and that she never committed any sin during her life. (Chapter 50 verse 23) affirms that she went to heaven with her physical body. Imagine, the Assumption of Mary is actually written about in the Quran. And now about Jesus: chapter 3 verse there are ten (10) points which the Quran makes about Jesus: 1. Jesus is the Word of God. 2. Jesus is the Spirit of God. 3. Jesus is the Christ. 4. Jesus spoke when he was only 2 days old. 5. Jesus created a live bird from the mud and breathed life into it. 6. Jesus cured a man that was born blind. 7. Jesus cured a man that had leprosy. 8. Jesus gave life to dead people. 9. Jesus went to heaven. 10. Jesus is still alive and will come again. So what does the Quran say about Muhammad? The Quran does not state that he is the Word of God! He is not the Spirit of God. He is not the Christ. He never spoke when he was young. He never created an animal and breathed life into it. He never cured anyone or raised them from the dead. Mohammad died and will not come back again. According to the Quran, Muhammad and Jesus are both prophets. However, it seems that Jesus (also according to the Quran) is a greater prophet than Muhammad. So now, if one asks: how did God create the Universe? According to Islamic Scholars, Allah created the Universe through his Word. So this Word is Creator and not creation. Therefore, if Jesus is the Word of God (according to the Quran) then Jesus is the Creator and all Muslims must become Christians. These thoughts were taken from an interview with Mario Joseph who is an Muslim, Islamic preacher. These past few week s articles have been about the Truth of Islam and many people have thanked me for writing them. Let me be very clear once again, my intention is to educate our parishioners about Islam and never do I make any judgment on Muslim people. There is no doubt that many Muslims are good people, some you may know as friends. However, the very unbiased truth is that Islam is not a religion of peace and this is based not on any right wing, conservative author, but more importantly on the Quran itself and Islamic scholars who have been recognized as experts by the Islamic community themselves. Therefore, I leave it to you to make up your mind what is the Truth about Islam. Someone after church asked me Father how could anyone kill a priest while he was saying Mass? I told them, Islam. Unfortunately, there are some people that believe that their god (Allah) commands them to do such actions and they will be rewarded for doing them. This is the same motive for strapping bombs to children, for suicide bombers, for people like those who drove the plane into the Twin Towers, those who killed Police Officers in Texas, those who killed homosexuals in Florida, those who killed innocent people in France and those who killed a Roman Catholic Priest while celebrating Mass in France. Maybe the last words of Father Jacques Hamel will give us an insight to whom these people are: Be gone Satan! Father Jacques Hamel, rest in peace. May you have already received the Martyrs crown which awaited you in heaven that very day!

5 Golf outing Saint Joseph Church 6 th Annual Golf Outing will be held on Monday, October 10 th at The Newton Country Club. Thrift shop Saint Joseph Church s Thrift Shop will re-open on Thursday, August 11 th with our Autumn and Winter apparel for all the family. Many great items for back to school. The shop also sells jewelry, puzzles, greeting cards, books and very reasonably priced household items. Come and have fun and be amazed at the selection.
