1 Morrow Mirror A monthly newsletter brought to you by Morrow First United Methodist Church Pastor s Pen August 2018 AUGUST - THE MONTH OF HARVEST Gen. 8:22, While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. There is a season to sow. However, harvest will come according to its season or as the God of Harvest commanded. What God said in Gen. 1:28, Be fruitful, multiply and have dominion, He s still saying today. Apostle Paul, in Eph. 3:20, uses three words to describe the power of God. The words are: Exceedingly, abundantly, above. These three words basically mean the same thing. They mean that the God of harvest is able to multiply exponentially what you ask, think or sow. In Matt. 14:13-21, a boy sows two fish and five loaves of br ead. When the disciples gave the two fish and five loaves of bread, which was not enough, to Jesus, He multiplied the fish and loaves to the point that they fed every person there and had twelve baskets leftover. This is not mere addition, but multiplication. Expect multiplication this season! In 1 Kings 17, the widow used the little flour she had and some oil to prepare a meal for Elijah. The widow did as Elijah asked and Elijah ate all that she had. When all she had should have been gone, verse 16 tells us And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah. The God of harvest multiplied her flour and oil so she will never go hungry again. The same God of harvest is still in the multiplication business. Expect multiplication. When discussing harvest, there are three types of people: the first category are those that sow nothing and harvest nothing. The second category are those that sow little; their harvest is always proportional to what they sow. The third category are those that sow much and they reap exponentially or in multiplications. 2 Kings 4:5-6, tells us that she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! Bring me another jar, she said to one of her sons. There aren t any more! he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. God took the drops of oil and obedience given to the prophet and multiplied them. This is a great miracle for those in category three. Can you imagine if she had more vessels to pour into? She gathered vessels according to and in proportion of her image of how big God was to her. Tell me, how are you seeing God? Lor d, thank you for this new month of August and for giving good seeds to the sower: talents, wisdom, knowledge and potential to succeed and excel. Cause us to sing a new song of good harvesters this month. We will sing, and praise you, our God, for the hundred fold return on all our seeds sown. God Bless, Pastor Luis and Melanie

11 Morrow Town Hall Meeting August 2, :30 p.m. City Hall, 1500 Morrow Rd Join Mayor DeTar for conversations about an Aerial Adventure Park at Barton Memorial and Olde Town Morrow. For more information, please call New Hope for Olde Town? An from Susan Hayden of Morrow CAN Community Action Network for Morrow Neighborhood Watch and Neighbors Helping Neighbors Hi folks. Many of you were at last night s City Council Meeting and heard about an exciting opportunity for Morrow to finally do something with Olde Towne. We have an investor who wants to use the narrow strip of land, 30 or so acres, lying next to I-75 at Meadowbrook as a canopy attraction (zip lines, ability to soar in the tree tops). This would be tied to an amusement area he plans to build in Olde Towne. He would operate a shuttle to bring customers from Olde Towne to the canopy tour. See map to left for the concept. If you were at the meeting, you would have noticed the excited reaction from most of the crowd. Two citizens were vocally opposed, saying they didn t want it. Their concern is raucous crowds and noise for nearby residents, but as you can see from the above map, this proposal will not impact nearby communities at all. If you are familiar with Meadowbrook, it would be in that area right under I-75, up the hill and across the creek from the Duffy/Wendall intersection. Since there would be a shuttle from Olde Towne (where customers would buy tickets) to the tour site, we wouldn t see any traffic impact. And this canopy tour is not a roller coaster or other loud amusement park ride. It will allow folks to have fun flying around in the tree tops while communing with nature, not a hootenanny. Finally, it is an idea, we don t know all the specifics of the proposal yet. Shouldn t we hear it out before dismissing? We ve all been sick about the vandalized Olde Towne houses, fearing our only option might be to raze the entire thing. This investor wants to preserve the existing structures at Olde Towne. Frankly, this sounds like a dream come true for those of us concerned about the eyesore and lost opportunity that Olde Towne has become. Imagine the business a tourist attraction visible from I-75 could bring to Morrow. Not to mention providing something fun for our citizens to do here rather than drive to points afar. As if that weren t enough, there s potential future income from it for the City. And the investor wants to move quickly, be in operation by summer Frankly, I cannot imagine more of a win-win for Morrow. Can you? If you have opinions, for or against this idea, please bring them to the city council meetings, write the city manager or mayor. Be aware, the proposal is not definite at this point the investor is trying to gauge our interest. If the public doesn t want it, he ll go elsewhere with his investment.
