1 Weekly Mirror J u l y 1 2, : 5 5 a. m. S e r v i c e L i t u r g i c a l C o l o r : G r e e n Mirror Rev. Luis Ortiz, Pastor. Wesley confirms that James Padgett has been chosen to be the writing instrument for Jesus truths I am here, a man who lived in the faith of the Christ, and who was a true follower of him and lover of God. I hesitate to write at the same time with these great spirits who have written you, and yet, I want to give my testimony also to the fact that I have heard the Master say that he has chosen you for the work of delivering his truths to the world. My dear brother, believe this great fact with all your mind and soul, for it is a truth, and one that prefers you before any other mortal. Jesus is the greatest of all spirits and the one nearest the fountainhead of God s love. He has declared to us who are close to him and working to accomplish his great desire for man s salvation that he has selected you to do the work, and you will not fail if you will only have faith. So make your start in trying to get this faith, and pray to God for more of it, and it will be given to you in great abundance. Only God can give the faith that will remove mountains and overcome all obstacles. I must not write more, and will say goodnight. I sign myself your true brother and co-worker in the cause. John Wesley, the Methodist preacher Welcome Guests! We re Glad You Are Here! Welcome to Morrow First UMC! We hope that our worship service will be a blessing to you and your family. We pray that the Spirit of God will touch your heart as we worship together. For your convenience, an information card can be found in each hymnal. This card will help you as we proceed through the worship service. The card also explains some of the areas of the church and the worship leaders involved in the service. Should you need any assistance during the worship service, an usher will be happy to help you. Please complete a guest/visitor card found in the pew pocket and drop the card in the offering plate so that we might know of your presence in our Lord s house. We will not contact you unless you check the I would like a call from the minister box, except for a letter thanking you for being a part of our service. If you would like more information about our church or scheduled activities, please call the church office or Rev. Luis Ortiz or Cyndie Combs. All church contact information can be found on page two, on top of your bulletin. God bless you and thank you for worshipping with us! Jesus Teaches about Serving Others New Living Translation (NLT) 35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. Teacher, they said, we want you to do us a favor. 36 What is your request? he asked. 37 They replied, When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left. 38 But Jesus said to them, You don t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with? 39 Oh yes, they replied, we are able! Then Jesus told them, You will indeed drink from my bitter cup and be baptized with my baptism of suffering. 40 But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen.
2 Morrow First United Methodist Church 5985 Jonesboro Road P. O. Box 143, Morrow, GA (BUS) (FAX) Office Hours: Monday -Thursday 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. closed on Friday Church Staff Rev. Luis Ortiz, Senior Pastor Cyndie Combs, Office Admn, Editor Becky Griffin, Financial Secretary Donna Weeks, Director of Music Nannette Dooley, Nursery Tracy Holland, Custodian Jackie Davis, Accompanist Elizabeth Lee, Nursery Jamie Bales, Chef STEWARDSHIP Inspiring a deeper understanding of true giving!!! The Spiritual Discipline of Giving Jesus said, It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). We receive much joy from giving. Through the discipline of faithful giving, we give witness to our relationship with the Lord. In our giving, we acknowledge God for who he is and what he has done for us. In practicing the spiritual discipline of giving, we learn to make giving a priority. Jesus said, Where your treasure is there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:24). Money goes to what we love most or, in Matthew s words to where our hearts are. Paul encourages us to give the first portions of our incomes regularly to the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:2). By making out the first check to the Lord s work, we affirm that Jesus is our treasure. Our gifts represent our love and gratitude to him. We also learn to give cheerfully (2Corinthians 9:7), not begrudging the offerings we bring to the Lord. We learn to be faithful in our giving, providing consistency in our stewardship lifestyle. By giving our money, we break the grip that money can have on us, freeing us to be devoted, instead, to our Lord. God is still in the blessing business and will surely provide. We are still within our summer months which tend to reflect as a downward trend in our contributions but I remain hopeful and continue to pray and ask you all to pray and remain hopeful in reaching our mission. RCT Mckenzie-Castillo, Alexander, T. 1st RTBN PLT 1072 CO B Box Parris Island, SC Standing In the Gap Our greatest example is the Lord Jesus Himself. We know that He stood in the gap for Peter. When the devil asked to sift him like wheat, the Lord was aware of it and prayed that Peter s strength would not fail. "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." (Luk 22:31-32) The Lord looks for a man who will stand in the gap. He told Ezekiel, "I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. (Eze 22:30). There have been times when the Lord could find no man to stand in the gap. Will you stand in the gap for someone today?
5 Order of Worship July 12, 2015 Seventh Sunday After Pentecost Gathering As we gather to worship our Lord, feel free to greet your neighbors in Christian love. However, when the announcements begin, please take your seats and at the chiming of the hour prepare your hearts and minds for worship. Out of courtesy for your brothers and sisters in faith, silence your cell phones so we can be in a spirit of worship throughout the service. Opening Words of Grace O God of all creation, the earth is yours and the fullness thereof. You touch the leaves with the dew of the morning; you send the breezes to cool the night. The trees are laden with fruit because of your blessing; fields produce crops because of your care. As you watch over your people and fill all their needs, now send forth your Spirit and be present among us. We lift up our heads and give you praise in Christ s name. 10:55 a.m. Ritual of Friendship Congregation 10:57 a.m. Parish Notices Judy Jaeger, Liturgist 11:00 a.m. Words of Grace Liturgist Chiming of the Hour Bell Toller Lighting of the Altar Candles Anna Seelhammer and Noah Seelhammer, Acolytes Prelude Love the Lord arr.
