Thank you for the warm welcome. Many of you have dropped by to say hello this week and help me settle into my position as office administer. One was a nice surprise as Susan Adams and I worked together at Sylvan Learning Center many years ago. Currently, I reside in McDonough but I have lived in Stockbridge, Norcross, and Panama City, Florida but that is another story. My family s church is Bethel UMC on Fairview Road in Stockbridge. Both my parents and I attended as children. Last week Bethel celebrated 156 years with the great tradition of a potluck dinner. Those of you that have popped by gave some good suggestions on what I should include in this space. Hopefully I will answer your questions. I am a graduate of Stockbridge High School and Clayton State University although I remember it as Clayton College and State University. Recently I worked as an administrative assistant with Community Gardens of Henry County. It is a non-profit organization that provided plots for residents and has a volunteer run donation garden that provides produce to other Henry non-profits. I did spend most of my time rooting around Excel but I do enjoy getting my hands dirty. My home garden has zucchini, green beans, and tomatoes. And I have some kale and winter squash seeds waiting to round out my garden. I appreciate the opportunity to work with all the folks that call Morrow First home. The first thing you need to do is talk to the pastor. Establishing a church home means to be intentional about your relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us in the book of Acts 2:38-39 (ESV), And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. Call the church office to set up an appointment. August is Camp Meeting Month August is here and with it comes Camp Meeting. A Sunday School class will sing each week and The Hand bell choir will ring beautiful melodies. August Camp Meeting Calendar August 14: It Is Well With My Soul The Searchers Sunday School Class will sing with the choir. August 21: Victory in Jesus The Joy Class will be singing with the choir. August 28: Down to the River to Pray The Bridge Builders Sunday School Class will be singing with the choir. Welcome Back! Please join us on August 28, 2016 for a covered dish luncheon welcoming back Pastor Luis and Melanie for another year serving Morrow First United Methodist Church. We are asking church members to bring their favorite dish to share and join us for food, fellowship, and fun immediately following the service. Let s make August a month of Celebration! Thank You To All of you that participated and contributed in the youth lounge remodel. Many hours were spent cleaning, painting, and assembling to make this a fun area for MFUMC Youth. The remodel is 90% complete. Thank you to Larry Cochran for your donation towards a DVD player for the lounge. The Guitar Hero equipment needs the accompanying Xbox console.

3 You Are Invited The Youth are invited to attend a trip to the High Museum after church on Sunday, August 14th to view the Vik Muniz exhibit that is leaving on the 17th. This is a free day at the High Museum. We will stop after church at the Varsity for lunch and view the exhibits. We will return to church around 4:00. See Anna Cox or Tracy Larson for more information. Let us run with perseverance the race that- God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1b (NIV) The Youth and families with small children are invited to attend the Decatur Book Festival after church on September 4. We will be at the Sycamore Family Zone beginning at 1:45 for storytellers from the Wren's Nest and the story Charlotte's Web. Bring money to eat from one of the vendors and we will stroll through the exhibits. We will return to church around 5:00. August 1 - August 31 All supplies collected will be taken to Morrow Elementary as a donation from Morrow First United Methodist Church. 4 Our Love, Prayers and Christian Sympathy to the family, friends, former clients, and fellow magicians of Abner Pope Dickson, Jr. (Abb) who passed away July 18, Abb, a well known magician, performed on several occasions at our church s WWNS programs. He was the author of a book about Jonesboro; was the master of ceremonies and performer for many cultural events sponsored by Historical Jonesboro, Arts Clayton, Clayton County Performing Arts, and others. He was the owner of Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Homes in Jonesboro and Morrow. A cryptside service for Abb Dickson was held July 21 at Forest hills Memorial Park Mausoleum in Forest Park. Gifts in his memory may be given to any of the respective organizations listed above. Congratulations to Mitch and Liz Griffin on the birth of their son Mitchell Thomas Griffin, Jr. who was born August 8, 2016 at Piedmont Atlanta. Mitchell weighed 8 pounds and was 20 and 3/4 inches long. The paternal grandparents are Becky & Mike Griffin in our church. The maternal grandparents are Cindy & Les Saunders of Marietta. Stop by the Good Shepherd Clinic located behind First Baptist Church of Morrow. Each month the clinic holds a Market Day and sell bags of produce for a $5.00 donation. The NEW remaining Market Days for 2016 are Aug 26, Sept 23, Oct 21. Each Market Day is held outside the clinic from 9:30 a.m. until noon. DID YOU KNOW?
