Religious Education Curriculum: Communion of Saints Te Kotahitanga o te Hunga Tapu The Religious Education Programme for Term 4 began with Imaginative and Meditative Prayer, and continues with the Communion of Saints Strand. Here is a summary to give you an understanding of the children s learning. In their study of the Communion of Saints this term, children will gain and apply knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to understand the Communion of Saints as the Church living and dead; whakapapagenealogy as relating to Te Whanau o Te Atua family of God; Mary, Mother of God, her life and her significance in the life of Our Vision: To provide 21 st Century Catholic Education, that enables children to strive for excellence, centred on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Be not afraid
2 the Church; the Saints and other inspiring people, including people in Aotearoa-New Zealand; the sanctity of life, the mystery of death, loss and suffering from a hope-filled Christian perspective; and the Christian belief in judgement and life after death and their relationship to the everyday choices people make. See the relevant pages in your Family-Whanau book. The focus is as follows: Year 1 Mary; Year 2 Saints and Inspiring People; Year 3 Life, Death and Christian Hope; Year 4 Choices; Year 5 - Saints and Inspiring People; Year 6 Mary; Year 7 Choices; Year 8 Life, Death and Christian Hope. Sunday 1 November is All Saints Day followed by All Souls Day when we pray for people who have died. There is a Memorial book in the school office and in the church where you can write down the names of your loved ones who have died and they will be prayed for during the month of November.
