Memory Verse: He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God. Deuteronomy 10:17, NLT Bible Story Focus: God is always with me. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego Daniel 3:10-28 Please return all items to tub when complete. Make It Fun: Introductory Activities Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as children arrive. Let one or two teachers lead activities in different areas of the room while another teacher greets parents and children at the door. Activity 1 Color of Fire Color of Fire is an activity that encourages children to search the room for the colors indicated in the circle. What You Need: 1 long sheet of red, orange and yellow construction or butcher paper/class Shared/Room Supplies: items around the classroom Before the activity: Sit with the children in a circle on the floor, and show them a color to search for. During the activity: Have the children search the room for items of that color, bring them back to the circle, and place them on the paper. Repeat with each of the colors. (Note: If your group is large enough, separate your group into three groups and assign the groups their own color to find.) At the end of the activity: Talk about the three different colors you searched for and how we have seen those three colors in fire from the Bible stories we ve heard. Put away all the items found. 2 What You Say: Before the activity: Come sit with me on the floor. We are going to go on a color hunt today! The first color we ll look for is red. (Hold up red paper.) When I say, Hunt, I want you to walk around the room and find all the things you can that are red and bring them back to the circle. During the activity: Look at all the red items you ve found! (Name several of the red items the children found.) This time, let s find all the orange things. (Pause.) Wow! You are great color hunters! What about all of the yellow things? Can you find them? (Pause.) You did it! Fantastic! At the end of the activity: You did such a great job finding all the colored things! These colors remind me of the colors you see in a fire. Today we ll hear another Bible story of how God showed up in the middle of a fire! Make It True: Bible Story Time 1. Bible Story What You Need: Bible, a gold trophy (any sport), at least 7 Little People figures, and a box or bag to hold the supplies (Storyteller sits with the children, holding the Bible, with the Little People figures and gold trophy inside a box or bag.) STORYTELLER: Today I have an awesome Bible story to tell you. And, as you know, if it s in the Bible (hold up the Bible) then it s TRUE! There once was a king named Nebuchadnezzar. (Pull out one of the Little People figures.) That s a super long and crazy name, isn t it? Anyway, King Nebuchadnezzar thought he was the very best king there ever was and he wanted everyone to know it. One day the king had an idea. He would make a golden statue of himself. (Pull out the gold trophy and set it in front of you. Add Little People around it.) Wow. Look at that golden statue of King Nebuchadnezzar. It s so gold and so tall! The king loved it so much that he placed it in the center of Babylon and he told the people that every time they heard the music playing they should bow down and worship the statue. If anyone did NOT bow down, the king said he would throw them into the fire. So each day the music played, and each day everyone in the crowd bowed down to the statue (make all but three of the figures lay down on their faces) everyone except these guys. (Point to the three figures you ve left standing.) Their names were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They were friends of God and knew they shouldn t bow down to anyone but God. So every day the music played, and every day everyone bowed down to the statue except Shadrach, Meshach, and Curriculum Materials for 1- and 2-year-olds 2009 First Look. All rights reserved. 2

3 Abednego. This did NOT make King Nebuchadnezzar very happy and so he ordered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to be thrown into the fire! Now if I were them, I d probably be pretty worried. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn t worry, because they knew God was with them. And no matter what happened, He would be with them. So the king had Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego thrown into the fire. (Set the three figures off to the side.) The fire was HOT! And once Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown in, everyone thought it was the end. But God sent an angel to protect Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! How cool is that? King Nebuchadnezzar was so surprised, he ordered them to be brought from the fire. Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, come out! (Grab the three figures and place them back in front of you.) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walked out completely unhurt! From that day on, the king never made anyone bow down to the statue again, because he found out who s REALLY got this: the one TRUE God! What an amazing TRUE story! God s got it. This is why we don t have to worry about anything because we have a great big God who loves us and is always with us just like He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in that hot fire. He s got this! STORYTELLER: Who s got it? [Bottom Line] God s got it. Let s say that together. Who s got it? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God s got it. STORYTELLER: God s got it and He is always with me and you. Isn t that amazing? Let s pray. 2. Prayer Dear God, thanks for Your Word and the TRUE stories we read about You. We trust You and believe that You ve got this and that You are with us! We love You. Amen. 3. Wonder! Look At God s Story DVD: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego Worship **The worship music is provided on a DVD. The words to each song will be shown across the bottom of the screen of the TV** What You Need: A DVD player, the May DVD and this month s worship songs: My God is Number One, Hey! 4 Make It Stick: Application Activities These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or offer two activities at once and allow half the children to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities. Activity 2 Into the Fire Into the Fire an activity that creates a visual of today s Bible story for the children to take home and share with their families. What You Need: Into the Fire Activity Page copied on white cardstock, and red, yellow, and orange dot markers During the Activity: Give each child some dot markers and an Activity Page. Encourage the children to make fire with the markers all around Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego on the page. What You Say: Before the Activity: We heard an AMAZING story today! Let s make a picture of our story so that we can take it home and tell our families all about it! During the Activity: (Pass out the Activity Pages and markers.) Use your markers to make fire all around Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Be sure to not put the fire on them, because remember that God was with them and protected them from the fire. (Do activity.) Great job! After the Activity: Nice work! Now you can take home your crafts and tell your families all about how God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and protected them from the fire. And you can tell them that He is always with us too! [Bottom Line] God s got it! Who s got it? [Bottom Line] God s got it! Activity 3 Act It Out Act It Out is an activity that uses large motor skills to instruct the children to do motions. What You Need: 1 precut set of Cards from the 3 year old Activity Pages/class (Sept 2014, Week 4), 1 sand pail/room Before the activity: Place the individual cards into the sand pail. During the activity: Have the children stand in a circle, and choose one child to come and pick a card. Allow him or her to act out the motion on the card and then ask the other children to copy the motion. When the children are finished, place the used card in a stack and allow another child to draw a card from the sand pail. 5 until all the children have had a turn drawing a card. If you run out of cards, just place the used cards back into the can or bag to reuse.) What You Say: Before the activity: I have many cards here that tell us what we should do today! Let s all get into a circle and see what the cards say! During the activity: (Choose a child to go first.) You may draw a card from the sand pail. (Allow the child to draw a card.) WOW! (Child s name) s card says to (say the motion on the card.) Can you do that? (Pause.) Great job! Now let s all do (motion). Awesome! Now it is someone else s turn to draw a card from the sand pail. (Repeat until every child has had a turn.) At the end of the activity: Great job doing what the card told you to do. It is good to follow directions. Today we heard a great story about three guys: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These three guys loved God and believed that God is the one true God, but the mean king didn t believe in the one true God and told them to follow directions that weren t true. But did the guys get hurt? (Pause.) No! Were they alone in the fire? (Pause.) No, they weren t! God was with them! God s got it! Woo-hoo! God took care of them and kept them safe! At the end of the activity: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego believed in the one true God and knew that [Bottom Line] God s got it! Who s got it? (Pause.) [Bottom Line] God s got it! Activity 4 Colorsheet What You Need: Colorsheet/child Get Ready to Dismiss Greet parents at the door and tell them that this month preschoolers are learning that [Bottom Line] God s got it! Encourage parents to repeat the Bottom Line at home and help their child understand that [Bottom Line] God s got it! Send any craft activities home with the child as they leave.
