3 August 14, 2016 Basic Truth: God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Key Question: Who loves you? Bottom Line: God loves me. Memory Verse: Nothing can separate us from God s love. Romans 8:39, NIrV Bible Story Focus: God has a plan for me. Abraham Genesis 12:1-7 Make It Fun (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes) 1. Name Game Name Game is a game that teaches children to recognize their own name and learn the names of their friends to introduce today s Bible story. What You Need: Construction paper and markers What You Do: Before the Activity: You need one half sheet per child. During the Activity: Pass out a half sheet of construction paper to each child. Write each child s name in large block letters on their half sheet of construction paper. Keep the pieces of paper as you write the names. When finished, say one child s name. When you say their name tell them to hold his or her name up over his or her head. Repeat with every child. (Note: Make sure to collect these when you re finished to use later this month. If possible, it would be best to laminate them!) What You Say: Before the Activity: Today I m going to write your name on each of your pieces of paper. When I finish, we re going to play a fun game with our names today! During the Activity: Say one child s name. When you say their name have them hold their piece of paper with their name on it over there head. Then say, who made [child s name]? That s right! God made [child s name] and God loves him/her too! Continue until you have said every child s name in your group. After the Activity: This was such a fun game! And it helped us learn all of our friends names. God made (call out different children as you point to them). He made all of us because He has a plan for us! We ll talk more about that today in our Bible story! Abraham Genesis 12:1-7 Make It Stick (Application Activities, 25 minutes) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible story and Bottom Line. 1. Abraham Review Abraham Review is an activity that helps the children review the Bible story using visual aids. What You Need: Abraham Review from the Activity Pages on the Website, copied on white cardstock. What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy the Activity Pages onto the cardstock. During the Activity: Have the children stand around you. Lead them to the first picture. Start to retell the story using the picture as a visual. Move to the second picture and continue telling the story. Finish the activity with the rest of the pictures. Continue telling the story. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. What You Say: Before the Activity: We heard an AMAZING story today! I have pictures on the wall about our story. Let s walk around together and look at them. During the Activity: (Hold up the 1 st picture.) Abraham had a nice home with his wife, Sarah, and his nephew, Lot. They had many things and animals. (Hold up the 2 nd picture.) One night God spoke to Abraham and told him to pack up and leave and start walking. He did not tell him where to go. 5 stop. Was Abraham afraid? NO WAY! He knew God had a plan and would take care of him and his family. (Hold up the 3 rd picture.) So Abraham packed up his family and walked and walked. They walked for days and days! (Hold up the 4 th picture.) They finally came to a land called Canaan. God told them to stop. God told Abraham that this was the land that his family would live on. Abraham listened to God s plan and was blessed! After the Activity: Abraham listened to God s plan even though it might have been hard to do. God has plans for us too! We need to always listen for God s plan. God loves us very much and has wonderful plans for us! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] God loves me! 2. More Than the Stars More Than the Stars is an activity that uses creativity and fine motor skills to review today s Bible story. What You Need: Abraham from the Activity Pages on the Website, white copy paper, black construction paper, glue sticks, crayons, and star stickers What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy the Abraham Activity Page onto white paper and cut out. You will need one Abraham cutout for each child. Set out the glue sticks and star stickers. During the Activity: Pass out an Abraham cutout and a black piece of construction paper to each child. Help the children use the glue sticks to glue the Abraham cutout to the center of the page. Let them place the star stickers on the page and color Abraham if time allows. What You Say: During the Activity: Who did we talk about in our Bible story today? (Pause.) That s right! We talked about Abraham! God told Abraham to look up at the night sky. God promised that His children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren would be more than all the stars in the sky! Have you ever tried to count the stars? That is a lot of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren! Let s make our own Abraham pages together. I want you to glue this picture of Abraham to the center of your paper. And then you can add these stars to the night sky in your picture. After the activity: God s plan for Abraham was so good! His children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren DID outnumber the stars. Isn t that amazing? God loved Abraham and had a plan for him. And God loves you and has a special plan for you too! Abraham Genesis 12:1-7 Make It Real (s, 5 minutes) Make It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Time What you Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card (from the week one Activity Pages on the Web site) in your Bible at Romans 8:39. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): God loved Abraham, just like He loves you. Who loves you? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] God loves me! SGL: That s right! And because God loved Abraham, God had a plan for him. Do you know what that means? That means God has a plan for you too, because He loves you so much! Who loves you? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] God loves me! SGL: Yes! God loves you! And our memory verse says, (open Bible to memory verse card) Nothing can separate us from God s love. I love that! Let s say that verse together with the motions. CHILDREN and SGL: Nothing (shake your head side to side and wave your arms in front of you like you re saying no way ) can separate (lock your fingers together in front of you and act like you can t pull them apart) us from God s love (point up with one finger and then hug yourself), Romans 8:39. 7 Okay, who s ready to write in our prayer journal? (Pause.) Good! Because it s time! Today I want you to think about what you want to do when you re all grown up like your mommy and daddy. I ll write down what you say beside your name. Then, when I pray, I ll use our list to thank God for having a plan for us and ask Him to help us trust His plan. These are some great ideas! Thanks for helping me make our list. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? Give each child that wants to pray the opportunity to do so. Now I ll pray. Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for the Bible and how it helps us know You better. Thank You for loving us and having a plan for us. (Name of child) wants to (read what you wrote for that child) when he grows up. (Repeat for each child.) All of these are amazing ideas, but we know Your plan will always be best.
