Psalm 33:11, NIV Key Question: Who has a plan for you? Bottom Line: God has a plan for me. Basic Truth: God made me. Social (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes) Let one teacher lead activities in different areas of the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. 9:00 & 11:30 Floor Puzzle What You Need: A floor puzzle What You Do: Before the Activity: Place the puzzle pieces in the activity area. During the Activity: Help the children put the floor puzzle together. After the Activity: Be sure every child has a turn to help put the puzzle together. What You Say: Before the Activity: I love puzzles! Putting them together is like watching a plan come together. During the Activity: Let s work together to put the puzzle together. I cannot wait to see what is on the puzzle when it all comes together! (Do activity.) After the Activity: Great job! I see the big picture! We are going to hear an amazing Bible Truth today about how God s plan comes together, just like our puzzle did! Transition: Move to Large Group by coming together like a puzzle by holding hands.
3 10:15 Work of Art What You Need: Section 4 of the art project and a variety of art supplies such as markers, crayons, tissue paper pieces, glue sticks, stickers, etc. What You Do: During the Activity: Lay the fourth heart section on the table along with the variety of art supplies. Encourage the children to decorate within the red line. After the Activity: Hang the fourth heart section with the other sections in the hallway for parents to see. What You Say: Before the Activity: Who s ready to finish our work of art? (Pause) I am SO excited to do this! Today we re going to make the fourth and final piece. See this red line? (Point to the red heart outline.) We can use any of the supplies in this bucket to decorate inside this red line. This is the last piece so let s make it amazing! During the Activity: (Encourage each child by name as they create.) After the Activity: This is wonderful! I can t wait to hang it with the other pieces so we can see the big heart work of art! Let s go! (Hang the piece and step back to look at the heart.) WOW! Look at the big heart work of art we made! Way to go! (High-five each child.) I am so proud of each of you. Now we get to go to Bible time! Today s Bible Truth is the last part of Joseph s work of art! Transition: Move to Large Group by chanting, I m a work of art! Bible (Large Group, 20 minutes) After children have participated in Social, gather them for a large group time that includes interactive worship, introductory sketch and Bible Truth. Place your We are in The Sandbox sign on the door as you leave. Travel to the Sandbox.
4 May 27, 2018 Bible Focus: God s plan is always best. Joseph Forgives Genesis 42 45; Psalm 16:11 Memory Verse: The plans of the LORD stand firm forever. Psalm 33:11, NIV Key Question: Who has a plan for you? Bottom Line: God has a plan for me. Basic Truth: God made me. Journaling (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Journaling is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Give each child a cup of Chex cereal to snack on while you take them through the following exercise. What you Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Psalm 33:11. Journal and a fun-shaped pen. Reward stamps. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Small Group time! Today we re going to pretend we re kings and queens when we walk to our Small Group spot. Everyone put your pretend crowns on like this. (Pretend to put a crown on your head.) Let s walk with our heads held high and wave slowly to the crowds like we re very important. Follow me this way! (Make a sweeping motion with your hand for the children to follow you. Walk like royalty with your head high and slowly waving to the left and right.) We made it to our spot! You can take your pretend crowns off now and sit down so we can talk. One, two, three, sit down with me! Our Bible time today was the end of Joseph s amazing life-story and the plan God had for him. Joseph ended up in charge of all of Egypt. He was kind of like a king! Joseph s life-story began with his brothers and the special coat his daddy made him. Then his brothers sent him far, far away from his family where he was put in jail for something he didn t do! Then Pharaoh, who was the king, needed help and Joseph helped him. That s when Pharaoh put Joseph in charge. Then, after Joseph had saved food so all of the people would have something to eat, guess who came to see Joseph. His family!
5 What did Joseph do when he saw his brothers? Did he get mad and say, No food for you, OR did he forgive them and give them food to eat? (Pause for response.) Yes! Joseph forgave his brothers! He gave them a big hug and all the food they could eat. He was so happy to see them! He told them God had a plan for him and it was good! God has a plan for someone else too: YOU! That s right! God has a plan for you! Who has a plan for you? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me. (Open Bible to verse.) SGL: I hope you always remember that God has a plan for you and that God s plans stand firm forever. Let s stand up and say the Bible verse we ve been learning and then anyone who wants to say it can try. I have my stickers/hand stamp ready! Our verse says: The plans of the LORD stand firm forever, Psalm 33:11. (Close Bible and lay it down.) Let s say that together one time with the motions. Just say what I say and do what I do. CHILDREN and SGL: The plans (hold up fingers 1, 2, 3) of the Lord (both hands point up) stand firm forever (stomp feet with hands on hips), Psalm 33:11. (Hold out hands like a book.) SGL: Good job! (Give each child a high-five.) I want everyone to sit down. When it s your turn to say the verse you can stand up. Who wants to try and say the verse first? (Give each child the opportunity to say the verse on his own. Have your stickers/hand stamp ready to give when they say it.) I am so proud of you! It s time to write in our prayer journal now. (Hold journal and fun-shaped pen.) Today I want us to make a list of what we think the best plans are. It can be anything from getting all the candy we want to a room filled with toys to learning how to fly an
6 airplane! When I call your name, tell me one thing you think would be the best plan. (Write each child s name and what they say beside their name. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters.) These are some super great plans! It would be really great if they happened. But guess what! As awesome as these plans are, God s plans are even better. It s true! No matter how good we think our plans are, God s plans are always the very best. Let s pray and thank God that His plans are best. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) Prayer SGL: Dear God, sometimes we think we know what the best plans are. It would be so great if things like (read the list the children made) happened. But help us remember that no matter how good we think our plans are, Your plans are always best. Help us to trust Your plan and stick with it, even when it s hard. We love You, God. In Jesus name, amen.
7 May 27, 2018 Bible Focus: God s plan is always best. Groups (Application Activities, 15 minutes) These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember today s Bible Truth and Bottom Line. 9:00 & 11:30 Sun Catcher Works of Art What You Need: Contact paper diamonds, popsicle stick frame, tissue paper squares, liquid glue, May Week 4 Labels, yarn pieces (for hooks), masking tape, and completed sample craft What You Do: Before the Activity: Adhere the contact paper to the frame edges. Place each frame sticky side up on the tables. You ll need to prepare one frame for each child. During the Activity: Encourage the children to stand or sit in front of a craft stick frame with the sticky side up. Show the children how to place tissue paper squares onto the sticky side of the contact paper until it s completely covered. Make sure you write each child s name on the back of their sun catcher with a permanent marker. Pass out a label to each child to place on the front of their sun catcher. Use the tape to secure a piece of yarn to the top of each sun catcher for hanging. What You Say: Before the Activity: Today we re going to make a sun catcher! During the Activity: We ll add tissue paper to our frame like this. (Demonstrate.) When you re finished, you can take this home and hang it up in the window. Then you will see all the pretty colors as the sun shines through it! It will be a beautiful work of art created by you! First, let s add our tissue paper squares to the sticky side. Cover the whole surface with the tissue paper squares. (Finish activity.) After the activity: (Pointing to the label) This says, God s plan is always best. That is right! God s plan IS always best. When I look at each of these sun catchers, they are all beautiful works of art. And when I look at each one of you, I think the same thing! You are beautiful works of art created by our loving God. You can trust God. He has a plan for each of you because He made you! Who has a plan for you? [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me.
8 10:15 Pieces of Joseph s Story What You Need: Joseph s Story Puzzle in a zip-top bag (1 per child) What You Do: During the Activity: Pass out a puzzle to each child and encourage them to pull out all the pieces and put the puzzle together. When finished, point out each of the pictures on the heart as you review the parts of Joseph s life-story. What You Say: Before the Activity: Everyone open up your bags and let s put our puzzles together. I ll give you a hint: the outside shape is a heart! When you re finished, let s talk about what we see inside the heart. During the Activity: Your puzzles look great. Can you see the pictures from Joseph s life inside your heart? Here he is in his special coat that his father gave him. That was before his brothers got so mad and sent him off. Then remember, he worked for Potiphar, but oh, no (point to the picture of Joseph in jail), then he was thrown in jail. But did he deserve to be in jail? (Pause.) No way. But you know what? All of those things were part of God s plan for Joseph. (Point to the picture with the barn.) Remember, Joseph was able to tell Pharaoh about his dream. Joseph told Pharaoh that he would need to store up the grain during the next seven years of rain so that they wouldn t run out of food. But this is my favorite picture of all. (Point to the picture of Joseph with his family.) Joseph saw his family when they traveled to Egypt to buy grain! Joseph forgave his brothers and the family was together again. After the Activity: All these crazy things that happened to Joseph were all part of God s plan for him. God s plan was the BEST plan for Joseph. Who has a plan for you? [Bottom Line] God has a plan for me. And God s plan is always the BEST plan. All Service Times Get Ready to Dismiss
