2 From the Desk of Fr. Chris Oh, that word of God! It is sharper than any two-edged sword. It can bring comfort and peace. It s a source of healing and reconciliation. It can be the birth of courage and strength. It is the wellspring of joy. It can also be like a bucket of ice water poured over you jolting, shocking, and unpleasant. It cuts away all the lies we tell ourselves and strips away the justifications we use for the things we say and do. It is penetrating and pries apart the image we want to present and the ego we hold so dear. And always, if we take it to heart, it is transformative and Good News. Fr. 3 The annual Blessing of Animals at Corpus Christi was held on October 6. This blessing reminds us of St. Francis of Assisi s love for all creatures. 4 October Food Drive supporting Pio Decimo Center Pio Decimo Center provides transitional housing for homeless and at risk families, low-cost senior housing, childcare and youth programs. Your donations will help anyone coming to the center seeking assistance. Suggested items Food: canned vegetables, fruits and meats; packaged foods/mixes; peanut butter; cereal; rice; beans Toiletries: shampoo; soap; toilet paper; laundry detergent; adult diapers; paper towels; diapers. The Knights of Columbus, Mother Teresa Council (CCCC Council), has launched our Coats for Kids Initiative. This initiative is possible because of Jim Click s Millions for Tucson Program, which enables the Knights to sell raffle tickets for a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, courtesy of Jim Click Chrysler Jeep. Those who purchase a raffle ticket from the Knights will benefit in two ways: their $25.00 contribution will help us purchase a winter coat for a child who might otherwise go without and they hold a ticket for a chance to own a beautiful new car! Tickets for the Coats for Kids Raffle are available in the Community Center on Sundays. Interested persons can also contact a Knight directly. The raffle ends December 2, The drawing takes place on December 13, Since the Coats for Kids program launched in 2009, half a million coats have been distributed by the Knights of Columbus in North America. Special Notice: We are grateful for all the donations of gently used items brought in daily for those who are in need. The spirit of giving is thriving at Corpus Christi! We will be taking a brief pause from accepting donations beginning October 14 through October 21 as the donation tables usually set up in the Community Center will not be in place in order to provide space for our Annual Fall Arts & Crafts Boutique. U.S. Dioceses urged to have emergency collection for disaster relief (By Catholic News Service). WASHINGTON -- The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops requested Oct. 2 that U.S. dioceses take up an emergency collection to help those devastated by Hurricane Florence and any other natural disasters that might occur the rest of the year. Excerpts from Houston s Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo s letter were included in a USCCB news release about the need for this collection. Funds will be used for "the humanitarian, long-term recovery and church needs arising from these storms" Cardinal DiNardo said. "Given the patterns of recent years, it is reasonable to expect much more unpredictable weather and an increasing number of natural disasters."
