2 From the Desk of Fr. Chris I always chuckle at the line in this week s Gospel, When the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John. James and John are asking for a place of honor, authority, and power. Are the other ten upset that James and John asked such a thing, knowing that is not the motivation of a follower of Jesus? Or are they upset that they didn t think to ask and make a power grab first? Often we don t consider ourselves as wielders of much power. But we all use words, and words can be very powerful! Think of all they can do. They can cause pain or resentment. They can sow the seeds of suspicion. They can be so demoralizing and inflict such hurt. But words can also be the cause of great joy! They can lift the spirit. They can be nurturing and encouraging. They can be the source of healing and comfort. How shall we use this great power we have been given? Fr. Come in and check it out! All are welcome. All Hands on Deck for Casa Maria Outreach Ministry invites all parishioners to participate in preparing sandwiches for Casa Maria's soup kitchen. Casa Maria serves more than 400 meals daily to our brothers and sisters needing assistance. Join us this coming Sunday, October 28, between 7:45am and 9:45am Masses. Stay late or come early. The collection today for the Propagation of the Faith ensures the work and service of the Mission Church, as it supports priests, religious and lay leaders who offer the Lord s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope s mission. For more information contact Lyn Diehl at or prayerchain@cccctucson.org Parish Pastoral Council Notice Parish Council meetings are held monthly, generally on the 4th Tuesday of the month in the Community Center. The date and time is published on the front of the weekly church bulletin. Anyone interested can find the agenda for an upcoming meeting on the bulletin board in the Community Center one week prior to the meeting. Also, following every meeting, the minutes can be found on the Corpus Christi website and a copy is available in the Parish Council Binder found on the lower shelf in the hallway by the office. Parish Council Member s names and photos are found above the bulletin board and they are always willing to visit with anyone about the council meetings/agenda/etc. Most meetings are open meetings and anyone interested may sit in as a listener. * No meeting Oct. 23. Next meeting will be Nov. 27. Corpus Christi Has Gluten-Free Hosts For those who wish to receive Gluten-Free hosts at Communion, we have them available at all Masses. To receive them, please come down the center aisle at the end of Communion and indicate to the Eucharistic Minister that you need the Gluten-Free host. Please call the Parish Office at to update your information. Outreach Ministry Donations Outreach accepts donations of gently used clothing, household items and electronics. There is always a need for men s and children s clothing especially. Eye glasses and cell phones are also accepted. Donations may be placed on the Outreach table in the Community Center. Donations go to the following agencies: Casa Maria Catholic Worker House ( ), Pio Decimo Transitional Housing ( ), Poverello House Men s Shelter ( ), Sr. Jose s Women s Shelter ( ), and Stand Up for Kids, depending on the content of the donation. If you have a large donation, please consider transporting your donation to the agency of your choice. As always, thank you for your generosity. Outreach ministry Blood Drive Corpus Christi is sponsoring the last blood drive of the year, November 11, from 7:30am to 12:30pm. The sign-up sheet for appointments is in the community center. Appointments can also be made on line at Give the gift of life this holiday season. Dominga s Dignity Bag Project An Invitation to Provide Hope! Please join the Outreach Ministry for the monthly sewing of Dominga s Dignity Bags on Thursday, October 25, 9:00am in the Community Center. All bags will be donated to El Comedor, San Juan Bosco Deportation Shelters, and Nazareth House Women s Shelter in Nogales, Sonora. You do not need to sew to participate. Bring a sewing machine if you have one. Donations of sewing supplies are appreciated. The Knights of Columbus, Mother Teresa Council (CCCC Council), has launched our Coats for Kids Initiative. This initiative is possible because of Jim Click s Millions for Tucson Program, which enables the Knights to sell raffle tickets for a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, courtesy of Jim Click Chrysler Jeep. Those who purchase a raffle ticket from the Knights will benefit in two ways: their $25.00 contribution will help us purchase a winter coat for a child who might otherwise go without and they hold a ticket for a chance to own a beautiful new car! Tickets for the Coats for Kids Raffle are available in the Community Center on Sundays. Interested persons can also contact a Knight directly. The raffle ends December 2, The drawing takes place on December 13, Since the Coats for Kids program launched in 2009, half a million coats have been distributed by the Knights of Columbus in North America. 5 Becoming Catholic - Now s the Time - If you are, or if you have a friend or relative who is, an adult ready to explore full initiation into the Catholic Church, now is the time to take action. Parish Library The Parish Library is located in the Parish Office and offers an extensive collection of literature and audio-visual materials to our Corpus Christi Community. New books and materials are processed each month. Locating a book is made easy with the use of a 3-ring binder where each book is listed by title, author, and category. Each item contains a library card to fill out and a Return Book shelf. (Please return the materials so they may be available to others) Yoga Classes at Corpus Christi!
