2 BREAKING OPEN THE SCRIPTURE WITH FR. CHRIS Gatherings on Friday mornings at 9:00am in Conference Rm. A/B. All are welcome. Your Corpus Christi Safety & Security Team is offering the parish community a new education course to teach evidence-based, lifesaving bleeding control techniques which have been shown to dramatically increase survival in emergency situations. The course is presented by the ICSave program in conjunction with our Diocesan office and teaches life-saving medical interventions, including bleeding control with a tourniquet, bleeding control with gauze packs, and opening an airway to allow a casualty to breathe. The course is designed for folks who could benefit from this basic knowledge. It will be held here on Saturday morning, May 12, in two different sessions from 9 11:30 and 1 3:30. There is no cost for the course or course materials. Sign-up after masses or in the Parish Office. Richard s Recommended Book List Fr. Richard has compiled a list of books used and/or recommended over the last several years to people who have attended his courses. If you are interested in the booklist, it is now available at the Parish Office or by sending a request to kmontano@cccctucson.org During the month of May, Catholics traditionally honor the Blessed Mother. Corpus Christi begins this celebration of Mary by providing flowers for the First Communicants to present to her at the altar. Her statue is then left in the sanctuary during the rest of the month. As all are aware, Mary has been given many titles by the church and, this year, Liturgical Life Ministry will publish a description of different titles in the bulletin each week in May. Prayer Chain If you would like to be a part of the Prayer Chain, or have a prayer request, all that s required is to have a computer with internet access, an address, a compassionate heart, and willingness to pray for others (no phone trees). To receive them, please come down the center aisle at the end of Communion and indicate to the Eucharistic Minister that you need the Gluten-Free host. Homebound Eucharist If you have a family member or know of a parishioner on the eastside of Tucson in need of having Eucharist brought to them regularly, please contact the Parish Office at Mass Intentions are Available If you would like to schedule a weekday Mass for your loved one(s), or have a special intention, please contact the parish office. Our Annual Sock & Sun Safety Weekend is coming up May 12 and 13 Please help our homeless brothers and sisters by donating socks and sun safety items to be given to the homeless ministries we support. 4 Hearing Screening. Total Hearing Care will be offering free hearing screenings on Sunday, May 20, from 8am to noon in the Community Center. No appointment is needed, the screening is available on a walk-in basis and takes approximately 10 minutes. Contact Amy if you have questions. May 20 Blood Drive. Corpus Christi Parish s next blood drive is scheduled for Sunday, May 20. Eating iron rich foods, staying well hydrated and well rested will help ensure a successful donation. Erickson Elementary Staff FAITHFULLY FOLLOWING CAMPAIGN UPDATE Progress Report as of April 24 $ Goal: $1,100,000 Gifts/Pledges Received: $846,000 (77%) Participation Goal: 500 Household Families Participation Results: 371 Household Families (74%/goal) Corpus Christi Building Mortgage Loan Update Building Loan Balance Owed: $ 1,725,000 * Feb. 1. Monthly Loan Payment: $ 21,000 ($13,600 principal; $7,7400 interest) * The Faithfully Following Campaign, presently underway, is an effort to pay down this remaining mortgage loan balance. Gift donations and pledges received as of April 24 total $846,000 towards the goal of $1,100,000. Greater parishioner participation is needed in order to reach the goal and allow us to continue meeting our monthly loan payment responsibility. 5 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Kyle Feilmeier is graduating from Andrada Polytechnic HS and is a 4.0 student and hopes to earn at least three certificates in ACT by the end of the year. He works at Carl s Jr. and plans to go to Pima Community College and then transfer and complete his Masters in computer science. He is from a family of five and his hobbies are detailing his car, volunteering, and hanging out with friends. Kyle says, A big part of Youth Group was making friends and volunteering. Almost every month we came together and helped others. I enjoyed making food for people struggling around the state. Knowing I helped someone fill their stomach left me with a great feeling. I loved helping the locals. This is a great experience for young people that haven't volunteered much before. Youth Group prepared me to complete Confirmation. Confirmation was a great and fulfilling event that make me feel much closer to God. Completing Confirmation is a big part in my life. I have learned and completed a lot through the Youth Group. Kyle helped out with Ushering and participated in the Christmas Eve Pageant! We loved having his help in Youth Group and look forward to all the wonderful things he will accomplish in his bright future! **Senior Update - Last week s Senior spotlight so sorry for confusion, there was a glitch but this is the first part of Cassie's wonderful bio!! Cassandra Rhind: After high school graduation, Cassie will attend Northern Arizona University Honors College to study Nursing (her passion). Some of the things Cassie loves to do include reading, swimming (she has been a swimmer since age 5), loves outdoor activities like running, surfs when she goes to Hawaii, plays guitar, loves traveling and being a volunteer TPD Explorer, is a black belt in karate and rode in her first El Tour de Tucson at age 7. Alexis Tapia is a senior at Sahuaro HS and will be continuing her education and playing soccer at Community College. She plans on studying physical therapy or ultrasound technology. Alexis says, Being a part of the youth group was such an amazing experience and I m grateful to be a part of it. Stacey was such a big part of this experience and I am so thankful to have her as a mentor. She showed the youth group so many new things that everyone enjoyed. The most life changing experiences were when she introduced me to the TMC Children s Clinic, helping serve the homeless veterans, making treats for animals, and making dignity bags. Being a part of this wonderful church community helped me to understand what being a Catholic really is. This has been such a great journey and I m excited to take my next step in life. We are also so excited for Alexis, who was a wonderful and generous part of Youth Group. She participated in so many projects, traveling to the Children s Clinic on the TMC campus and Amado to help Equine Voices. We are so grateful and excited to be part of her future successes! Youth Group Summer Events are in the planning stage...some ideas are movie & lunch after Mass; Mt. Lemmon trip; group walking dogs at PACC; off-campus movie at a theater; setup Autism camp at Horses with Wings; Children s Clinic party and more. All dates are TBD.
