The fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross does not prove in itself He is God. Jesus proved His deity by fulfilling the prophecies of His death and by His return from the grave.

By rising from the dead, Jesus proved His authority and power to break the bonds of sin and to assure forgiveness and eternal life to all who accept His gift of salvation.

The Resurrection secured our victory over death as well and lifted us up from the grave into glory along with Christ, where we sit with him in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6).

Term 1, Week 10, 3 April 2018 Significance of the Resurrection (written by Bill Bright) The Resurrection proved that Christ was divine. The fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross does not prove in itself He is God. Jesus proved His deity by fulfilling the prophecies of His death and by His return from the grave. The Resurrection proved Christ s power to forgive sin. The Bible asserts, If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). By rising from the dead, Jesus proved His authority and power to break the bonds of sin and to assure forgiveness and eternal life to all who accept His gift of salvation. The Resurrection revealed Christ s power over death. The Resurrection secured our victory over death as well and lifted us up from the grave into glory along with Christ, where we sit with him in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6). The Resurrection defeated God s enemy. From the moment of his original rebellion until the day of the Cross, the devil fought viciously and cunningly to overthrow the kingdom of God. The Cross was heaven s triumph. And when Jesus Christ arose, the power of sin and death was forever shattered. Because of the Resurrection, Christians need never fear Satan or death again. He is Risen, now what? (written by Jeremy Lallier) God s plan didn t end at the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the contrary, that resurrection set the stage for the rest of His plan and the rest of our lives along with it. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is where we start. It s where we acknowledge our shortcomings, our failures and our sins. It s where we recognize the need to hold ourselves accountable to God s standards, and it s where we embark on a lifelong journey to follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior. It s not an easy journey. We re going to make mistakes. We re going to come up short more often than we d like. We re going to miss the target and find ourselves in need of the cleansing blood of Christ s sacrifice again and again. Jetting Off to Italy and London On 12 April, six students and four adults will be jetting off on their first ever Ancient History Study Tour to Rome and London.

We will arrive in Rome for three days of tours and activities, including a visit to the Colosseum, the Forum, the catacombs and the Vatican. 20 April British Museum and London Tours 21 April Sightseeing, leave London for Australia 23 April Arrive in Orange After this we will travelling by train to Naples, so we can explore the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. From there we will be travelling back to London to spend two days exploring the British Museum, London Tower, the Globe Theatre and more, before returning to Australia on 23 April. On the trip to Italy, I am looking forward to experiencing new cultures and visiting historic sites, such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. I d also like to try true authentic Italian food. Hannah Harper This whirlwind tour will give Ancient History students the opportunity to see some of the sites we study in our HSC course, while experiencing other cultures and peoples. It will be really interesting experiencing societies much older than our own and then being able to apply that knowledge to my Ancient studies. - Emily Childs I am looking forward to seeing all of the historical sites we have been studying, such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Colosseum and some of the Egyptian artefacts at the British Museum. I really love to travel and experience new cultures, so I am very excited to see some new areas of the world. - Jordan Berry I m looking forward to Italian food - that s always pretty good, especially gelati, coffee and pizza. It d be good to see the Forum, since we have been learning about it this term. 6 CSSA Secondary State Swimming Carnival On Monday, 26 th March, eighteen Secondary students travelled to Homebush to compete at the CSSA Secondary State Swimming Carnival. Each student swam well, and the majority improved on their entry time in at least one event. Jacob Pulling improved by over 12 seconds in the Boys years 200m Freestyle, Dylan McHatton improved by almost 8 seconds in the Boys years 200m Individual Medley, Caitlyn Nobbs improved by almost 8 seconds in the Girls years 200m Freestyle, Leo Pulling improved by over 7 seconds in the Boys years 200m Individual Medley, with Rikky Bangert improving by just under 7 seconds in the same event and Lucy Grant improved by almost 6 seconds in the Girls 12 years 100m Freestyle. CIS Secondary State Swimming Carnival Emily Nobbs will be competing at the Combined Independent Schools State Swimming Carnival on Wednesday, 4 th April and Thursday, 5 th April. She will be swimming in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Freestyle.
