Matthew 28:19 This week we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, and while I was meditating on how to approach my article, the question of why this solemnity is always celebrated the week after Pentecost kept popping up. It seems to me that we should celebrate this feast day the very first week of ordinary times near the beginning of our calendar year. After all, the whole basis of our faith is about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And it just seems natural that we d start our Catholic ordinary season back in January with a focus on the Trinity. But then I realized that the week after the end of the Easter season is the perfect time for us to celebrate the Trinity. Through the combined Christmas and Easter seasons, we ve just completed the entire Incarnation and Paschal Mysteries and have spent many weeks witnessing the most holy examples of our God in complete Trinity revealed as our one God. It s our salvation story that God Himself orchestrated for us because He loves us. God the Father sent His Son to earth, because God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son. God the Father calls us to repentance, and leads us to His Son. God the Spirit came upon Mary whereby God the Son, Jesus Christ our Savior, was born in full humanity and taught us to have faith. In obedience to the Father, Jesus suffered and died for us. God the Son ascended into heaven to sit on the throne at the right hand of the God the Father to intercede for us and to prepare our place in heaven. After that ascension, God the Son sent God the Spirit to us on earth to give guidance, fire and gifts of charisms. Our hearts have been reignited by God the Spirit as we have been reunited with our Triune God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. With the constant message on this over the past 20 weeks, and looking at it as one smooth flow, it s been amazing to realize how God revealed Himself in all three persons, in concert with each other, to accomplish our salvation story. Celebrating the Holy Trinity immediately after these seasons is the perfect time to raise awareness of the awesome mystery of our three-in-one God. But it doesn t stop there. Recognizing the actions of the Trinity in the past weeks, we can see how God manifests the Trinity at every Mass. Sent by God the Spirit, God the Son appears to us and re-presents His sacrifice of Himself to God the Father. Every Mass is sanctified and consecrated to our Triune God. So you see, every Sunday is devoted to the Most Holy Trinity and we should always see Him that way. And while we will never fully comprehend how one God can be three persons, we should always be grateful that the three together give us our salvation and His grace. ST. How do I remain faithful to my duties of family and still find some time and space for myself? How do I keep from becoming over-extended and being burned out, when I get home from work?

4 A WORD FROM DEACON CHARLIE BY DEACON CHARLIE BOYER, DIRECTOR OF FAITH FORMATION A few days ago, I came across a book that I read when working on a Masters degree from Loyola Marymount University several years ago. The book was titled By Way of the Heart by Wilkie Au (1989, Paulist Press). This book of spirituality writings address some of the frustrations that we encounter in our daily lives. I d like to develop my prayer life but I feel guilty when I take time away from my family. I d like to volunteer in my church or community, but I hardly see my wife and children, with work being so hectic these days. How do I remain faithful to my duties of family and still find some time and space for myself? How do I keep from becoming over-extended and being burned out, when I get home from work? We often experience those inner voices that demonstrate the challenges we hear every day, as we sometimes struggle to grow in faith, and at the same time be a witness to faith in our family and in the greater community. You are not alone. Let me suggest taking some time in the coming summer months to slow down a little and spend some time doing practicality nothing like going for a walk in the neighborhood, or at the beach. Make it a habit once a week. A friend who is a writer on spirituality calls it wasting time with God. It may be something you want to do every day. You could just get away for an extended weekend and leave the cell phone (unless you really need to have it). Have a restful summer! In Christ, Deacon Charlie Boyer LEGION OF MARY Through this new bulletin column, Ministry of the Week, we will showcase one SJN Ministry each week to bring awareness to all of the good works of Stewardship that our parish supports and to encourage people of our community to join in. his week, we are highlighting the Legion of Mary praesidium. The Legion of Mary is a lay catholic organization whose members are giving service to the Church on a voluntary basis in almost every country. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary s and the Church s work. The unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion. The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking sponsored by the parish. Evangelization, especially the seeking of conversions to the Church, should be a priority for the Legion. Through the visitation of homes and by other means, the Legion must, as a first principle, set out to establish a contact of some sort with every soul everywhere. Seeing and serving Christ in the sick and marginalized is another vital part of the legionary apostolate. While not engaging in the giving of material relief, legionaries will often find opportunities to do works of service for the needy. The Legion aims to bring Mary to the world as the infallible means of winning the world to Jesus and legionary service is based on the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ so that in their fellow members and in those they serve, legionaries seek to have the Person of our Lord once again seen and served by Mary, his Mother.
