Before you were born, I dedicated you. Jeremiah 1:5 Human life is a gi from God. And as a gi from God, every human life is sacred from concep on to natural death. Catholic teaching is that the life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condi on. Respected and protected. That leads us Catholics to ac vely work for a world of greater commitment to jus ce, understanding and mercy in areas such as abor on, infer lity, adop on, capital punishment, elderly care and euthanasia/physician assisted suicide. October is Right to Life Month throughout the world and we at St John Neumann will be focusing and ac ng on this foremost Catholic teaching. Our plan includes ongoing educa on, prayer, and advocacy efforts to mobilize our SJN community on these issues of life, jus ce, and peace. Some of the ac vi es we have planned include: Pennies From Heaven All dona ons made to the Poor Box in the front ves bule of the church will go towards helping the local Respect Life shelters. Bring your coins and dollar bills to donate. During the month, we ll also have the baby bo les if you d like to take one home and return filled with dollars. Blessing of Expectant Mothers At the 8:30 Mass on October 14th, the Elizabeth Ministry will host a special blessing for expectant mothers STEWARDSHIP of SACRIFICIAL GIVING S. 22, 2018 S. 23, 2018 Rosary Walk scheduled October 20th immediately a er the 8:30 Mass, as a large group, we ll walk around the city block praying a rosary in intercession for all phases of life. The purpose of the study is to review the Gospel in detail, how that reading was selected for this season, and how the other Scripture readings support the theme of the Gospel. Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are men and women of our community who serve Christ by mee ng people in the most in mate and sacred of Catholic encounters: the sharing of the Eucharist. It is a beau ful opportunity to develop a deeper devo on to the Holy Eucharist and connect with your fellow parishioners at Mass or, outside the church, as a Homebound Eucharis c Minister, in homes, hospitals or nursing homes. To be considered for this ministry of humble service and immense love, you must be a registered member of the parish, a Catholic in good standing, be willing to serve twice per month and a end an annual re commissioning service. Training is provided for the proper recep on and delivery of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Eucharis c Ministers service opportuni es include: Saturday vigil or Sunday masses, week day masses, homebound, nursing home or hospital visits. You may choose one, two or all op ons. Here is a picture of Casey, Thuy and Sean Pa erson in Bal more where Casey is star ng college at the Peabody Conservatory. It just so happens that the Bal more Basilica (short for "Basilica of the Na onal Shrine of the Assump on of the Blessed Virgin Mary ") is only two blocks from his school. Maybe Casey will join their Altar Server ministry there. And, the coolest part is that they were actually there this year on August 15th which was the feast day of the Assump on of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 6
