World Communion Sunday is a traditional Christian holiday in which people from different denominations celebrate their unity in Christ.In that spirit, four local congregations will join together to share a worship service on that holiday, Sunday, October7, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Ramada Inn. The service e will be jointly led by the pastors of those four churches and will feature a PowerPoint sermon, performances by the First Presbyterian and United Methodist choirs and a shared celebration of the Lord s Supper. The servicee has been created by blending traditional worship elements from each of the three participating denominations, while the sermon will discuss the origins of World Communion Sunday and how it s ideals should unite Christians across the world in spite of their differing cultures, traditions and languages. She brings with her fresh new ideas, one of which we re hoping to develop starting in October, a weekly brown bag lunch. It would be a relaxed keep it simple kind of get-together here at church just for the sake of conversation. Hopefully it will prove to be as successful as our Stepping Stones group. $ Again, our thanks for your continued support of our Change for the Better project. Coins in October, November & December will be given to The Workshop for its much-needed program supporting individuals with disabilities here in Galena. After trying out the 11:30am meeting time on the second Wednesday of each month at Happy Joes, it has been decided to go back to our original time of 10:00 am every second Wednesday of each month. We think this will work out best for everyone.

We had 15 children attend! Sunday school meets every week during the worship service at 10:30 am. There are 3 classes: PreK 1st grades, 2nd 4th grades and middle school. Parents of the bride are Richard & Margie Morhardt; Parents of the groom are Steve and Mary Bader and grandmother of the groom is Janette Bader FAREWELL TO BISHOP HEE SOO JUNG WELCOME TO BISHOP SALLY DYCK All Church Conference is Sunday, October 28 Bishop Jung served 8 years as Bishop of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has now been appointed To serve the Wisconsin Annual Conference Where he earlier served as a pastor and as a Superintendent. He will be greatly missed. The new bishop for the NIC IS Sally Dyck who Will take over on Sept. 1. She comes from the Minnesota Annual Conference where she Served the last 8 years. A welcome reception For Bishop Dyck was held Sunday, Sept. 23 at Grace UMC in Naperville. Let s keep her in our Prayers as she begins her ministry in Northern Illinois Conference. JOY GROUP Tri-State Autism Network Support + Education + Advocacy This month we are highlighting the Monthly Autism Training Series sponsored by the Mercy Service Club Autism Center. Their next workshop is Tue., October 16, From 6:00 8:00 p.m. at the Hills and Dales Community Center, 3305 Stoneman Rd., behind the Mindframe movie theater in Dubuque. The topic is Food selection and sensory motor activities connected to the eating process There will be 45 minutes of instruction by trained professionals, then 45 minutes of age-specific breakout sessions with questions and answers. Call the Autism Center at to register, or register at the door. There is a charge of $5. per person, which our Network will cover. Ouk-Yean Kim Jueng will worship with both congregations then share a potluck lunch with us after worship at Galena UMC at 11:30 a.m. We will have our church conference after lunch. Cluster Confirmation Class Begins Our Cluster Confirmation Class began with an Orientation and Potluck for students, parents and mentors on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 5:00 p.m. at Calvary UMC, Stockton. Our 12 class sessions will be held on the 1st & 3rd Sunday evenings of the month, from October through March, 6:30 p.m. at Stockton, with Oct 7 and 21 being our first sessions. We expect to have nine or ten seventh and eighth graders. We'll have a weekend trip to see Chicago churches, and are planning other events also. Our curriculum is Cokesbury's "Credo."
