1 United Methodist Church Galena UMC 125 S. Bench St. Galena, IL Worship Servicee 10:30 am day School during worship UMC of Scales Mound 315 Mason St, PO Box 172 Scales Mound, IL Worship Service 9:00 am day School during worship Nov Pastor Patricia Allen-Stewart Give thank ks with a grateful hea art give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because he s given Jesus Christ his Son. And now let the weak say, I am strong ; let the poor say, I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks! When I first sang this simple, moving hymn from The Faith We Sing it gave me goose bumps. The lyrics and music by Henry Smith were published over thirty (30!) years ago, yet they seem as urgent today as in It is time to incarnate our identity as the heirs of Jesus Christ and of John Wesley and remember that our God wants abundant life for us and for all people. Yes, we trust that we have riches in heaven, but we also know that it is God s desire for all people to have shalom health, wholeness, justice, peace conditions which are sometimes in short supply in this world where God has placed us. We are blessed in our communities that we can work together to share God s love and intentions for the world to be instruments of God s peace, as St. Francis would say. And, did you know that right now we are serving victims of Hurricane Sandy through the United Methodist mmittee on Relief?! For information on how our denomination is responding to this disaster go to Thank you to all who are: filling shoebox gift packages for Operation Christmas Child ; collecting items for military Care Packages; supporting the Special Children s fund throughh mpassion International; preparing for the United Churches of Galena Christmas ncert which raises funds for the Galena Food Pantry; and volunteering in so many ways. Galena UMC will host the United Churches of Galena Thanksgiving Service on day, November 18, at 4:00 p.m. In Scales Mound we will worship at the Presbyterian Church on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 21. We hope to set a time which will coordinate with the school sports on that evening. Watch the day bulletins for further details. Our thanks to Roger Hervey, our webmaster, who urges us to send him photos of parish events. If you haven t checked our websites lately, take a look at: and I do indeed give thanks for your partnership in the Gospel, and I look forward to each new season as we seek to be creative and fruitful disciples of Jesus Christ. The Lord bless you and keep you, Pastor Patricia
