Children kindergarten and older will remain in service today to participate in Communion. Thank you for worshiping with us today. REFLECTIONS & INSTRUCTIONS ON COMMUNION Communion is a time for quiet celebration. Please refrain from talking with neighbors as others are in thankful prayer. Holy communion is a gift from God to all of God s people. It does not belong to one particular church or denomination. At Christ Presbyterian Church everyone who confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is encouraged to come to the table. Appropriate responses to receiving both bread and cup include: Thanks be to God Amen Glory be to God You are encouraged to remember God s call to be part of the covenant people and a citizen in the Kingdom of Heaven (your baptism) by dipping your hand in the baptismal font as you come forward. You are welcome to receive Communion as a couple, family, and/or as friends gathered. If you have a family member who is in the choir, they can join you as you come forward. You are encouraged to sing during Communion. The choir will lead in singing meditative hymns. As you return to your seat you are encouraged to continue singing, devote yourself to prayer, or meditate on the cross.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD *Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed: page 34 Offertory Anthem Greater Love Hath No Man John Ireland Many waters cannot quench Love, neither can the floods drown it. Love is strong as death. Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Who His own self bare our sins in His own Body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness. Ye are washed, ye are sanctified, ye are justified, in the Name of the Lord Jesus: Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, That ye should show forth the praises of Him Who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies, a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your service. (Rom. 12:1 & I Peter 2:9,24 & Sol. 8:7 & John 15:13) *Doxology Hymn No. 711 (stanza 1) Lord of all good, our gifts we bring to you; use them your holy purpose to fulfill, tokens of love and pledges brought anew, that our whole life is offered to your will. TOULON *Prayer of Dedication (unison) God of all good gifts, we thank you for showing us how to care for each other. May these gifts lead to great feasting for those who have no banquets set before them. May these gifts build shelters and places of prayer for those who are homeless. May these gifts proclaim your desire that all your creation live in peace. Grant us grateful hearts, O God, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. *Invitation to the Lord s Table *Hymn No. 496 Bread of Heaven, on Thee We Feed *The Great Thanksgiving Leader: The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Leader: It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe. In your wisdom, you made all things and sustain them by your power. You made us in your image, setting us in your world to love and serve you and to live in peace with your whole creation. From generation to generation you have guided us, sending prophets to turn us from wayward paths into the way of righteousness. Leader: Out of your great love for the world you sent your only Son among us to redeem us and to be the way to eternal life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with the choirs of heaven and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name: *Sanctus (sung by all) Thomas Pavlechko Permission granted: St. James Music Press 2008 Families

Leader: You are holy, O God of majesty, and blessed is Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. As one of us, he knew our joys and sorrows, and our struggles with temptation. He was like us in every way except sin. In him we see what you created us to be. Though blameless, he suffered willingly for our sin. Though innocent, he accepted death for the guilty. On the cross he offered himself, a perfect sacrifice, for the life of the world. By his suffering and death, he freed us from sin and death. Risen from the grave, he leads us to the joy of new life. We give you thanks that the Lord Jesus, on the night before he died, took bread and after giving thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup, saying: This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Remembering all your mighty and merciful acts, we take this bread and this cup from the gifts you have given us, and celebrate with joy the redemption won for us in Jesus Christ. Leader: Accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving as a living and holy offering of ourselves, that our lives may proclaim the One crucified and risen. Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Leader: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ. As this bread is Christ s body for us, send us out to be the body of Christ in the world. Lead us, O God, in the way of Christ. Give us courage to take up our cross and, in full reliance upon your grace, to follow him. Leader: Help us to love you above all else and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, demonstrating that love in deed and word in the power of your Spirit. Give us strength to serve you faithfully until the promised day of resurrection, when, with the redeemed of all the ages, we will feast with you at your table in glory. Through Christ, all glory and honor are yours, almighty Father, with the Holy Spirit in the holy church, now and forever. Amen. Sharing of the Bread and Cup

Communion Anthems Alfred V. Fedak O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us your peace. O taste and see how gracious the Lord is; blest is the man that trusteth in him. Ps. 34:8 Ralph Vaughan Williams The Closing Prayer, Prayers of the People, and the Lord s Prayer REENTRY INTO THE WORLD TO SERVE THE LORD Being Christ s Church (Please sign the Friendship Pad found in your pew and return it toward the center aisle, noting names of those with whom you are worshiping.) *Hymn in Procession No. 224 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross *Benediction Choral Response Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine: never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine. This is my Friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend. LOVE UNKNOWN Tolling of the Tower Bell During this Lenten season we anticipate the Day of Resurrection; we go out into the world today only with the sound of the tower bell, but festive organ toccatas will be heard each week in the Great Fifty Days, celebrating again Christ s victory over the grave. *Greeting One Another For anyone wishing confidential individual prayer, immediately following the service a member of the Stephen Ministry will be available in the Chapel. One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be received TODAY Since 1949 Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through OGHS to share God s love with those in need. Your generous gifts assist those affected by natural disasters, provide food to the hungry, and assist in helping to empower the poor and oppressed. Please consider giving generously to this offering.

Daily Grace CPC Rhythms of Worship and Discipleship The Week of April 9, 2017 Using Sunday s Order of Worship, we enter into worship and prayer every day of the week. We worship together... separately. The Call to Worship The Prayer of Adoration (Followed by silence) The Prayer of Confession (Followed by silence) The Assurance of Pardon Scripture Readings (Worship texts for Sunday, April 16): Monday: Isaiah 65:17-25 Thursday: John 20:1-18 Tuesday: Acts 10:34-43 Friday: Isaiah 65:17-25 Wednesday: Psalm 118:1-2 Saturday: Psalm 118:14-24 Silent Meditation and Prayer (Listening for God s voice in Scripture and silence) Prayers of the People (Lifting others before God) Prayer of Dedication Becoming Familiar With Holy Scripture If you wish to become more familiar with the Bible and the best known stories of scripture, read The Word Became Flesh in Jesus (John 1). One of our great Easter traditions is the flowering of the cross. This year as we have in the past, you are encouraged to bring flowers or greenery from your garden to add to the cross that will be in Cloister Hall on Easter Sunday. This simple tradition shows that each of us contribute to turn a drab dull wooden cross to a work of art, a symbol of our collective efforts. In this way we honor Our Lord on His Day of Resurrection. Please join us in Cloister Hall. Flowers will be provided for those of you without blooms at home. C o n g r e g a t i o n a l Greeting Cards: As an o u t r e a c h t o o u r congregational family, we will have 2 cards each week in Cloister Hall on a podium for the family to sign. Please stop in Cloister Hall and sign the cards this week for: Ginnie Davidson (Happy Birthday), Carolyn Smith (Thinking of You).
