ASSEMBLE IN GOD S NAME Welcome & Worship Notes Organ Voluntary Fanfare C. S. Lang Call to Worship Psalm 93:1, 3-4 Leader: The Lord is King, robed in majesty. People: God has established the world it shall not be moved. Leader: Even the floods lift up their voices in praise! People: More majestic than the thunder of the mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea is the Lord on High!

3 *Hymn in Procession No. 268 Crown Him with Many Crowns *Prayer of Adoration (unison) Psalm 93:1, 3-4 Eternal God, you set Jesus Christ to rule over all things, and made us servants in your kingdom. By your Spirit empower us to love the unloved, and to minister to all in need. Then at the last bring us to your eternal realm where we may worship and adore you and be welcomed into your everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (unison) O Lord, your kingdom is not of this world. I confess that I am too comfortable in the kingdoms of this world. Convenience, ease, and fear keep me from standing for your justice, your peace, and your people. My life does not reflect your rule in my heart. Forgive me, Lord. Call me again, renew my purpose, so that I may believe your truth and listen to your voice. Help me claim your kingdom with my voice, my heart, and my life. Kyrie Hymn No. 579 (sung by all in Greek) Kyrie eleison (please stand) *Declaration of Forgiveness Leader: Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn? People: Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Leader: Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation. The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Know that you are forgiven and be at peace. Unison: Amen.

4 *Response (sung by all) Mark Schweizer Permission granted: St. James Music Press 2010 Children are now invited to walk to the chancel steps for the Message.

This popular sinfonia from Cantata #29 is an ubiquitous example of the art of recycling and sustainability. Like many other famous Bach works, it is heard in arrangements for every imaginable instrumentation: better termed transcriptions. This piece began as the opening movement of his third solo violin partita in E major, possibly to develop and display advanced bowing technique of his students. As was his common practice, Bach then recycled the music to become the opening movement of his Cantata #29, We Thank Thee, Lord, including strings, trumpets, oboes, timpani, and organ, but in the lower key of D Major. Then many other organists have transcribed the work for solo organ. This version is by Marcel Dupré with more revisions by David J. Kienzle. Soli Deo Gloria.

9 Mark your calendars for this year s Children s Christmas Musical, Christmas Play by Play, Sunday, Dec. 21 at 5:00pm. The youth will also perform a play following the children s program, On Stage with Jesus. Come for a great evening and to support the children and youth of CPC. Prayer Chain: In order to maintain our Prayer Chain, we need YOU; men and women willing to pray, make one phone call, or forward one . Due to illness, changes in circumstances and/or residence, some of our members are no longer able to par cipate. If YOU are God-directed to serve, please call Miriam Carter at , Miriam Hinterleiter at , or Alice Bailey at or Alice at: AliceB1519@aol.com. Thank you for your considera on to help. How do we show Compassion to those who request money? These past several weeks have brought on numerous occasions of people looking for help. Some of these folks have shown up on Sunday mornings and some in the evenings during meetings. Many of you have encountered them and were asked in many different ways for help. Most of the requests have been for cash. PLEASE DO NOT give cash!!! The best form of help you can provide these folks is to refer them to the office during normal office hours (M-F, 8:00am 5:00pm). The office staff and the pastors are experienced and well equipped. We keep records and work with the other churches and agencies in the area to help those in need, and we try to prevent those who are abusing the system. Unfortunately, cash can be misused for purposes that are anything but good, and can truly undo the work of the church. Available at the exit doors, you will find a pamphlet listing all of the local food sites along with the telephone number for the Homeless Hotline. Please direct the people to these helpful pamphlets. By giving cash, this defeats the work that the area churches and agencies are doing. Please send them to us, as the Session continues to prayerfully address how to move forward. Donald Weltlich, Business Administrator/Assistant

10 The Hat and Mitten Tree is up and waiting to be covered with your donations. Millie Snyder is coordinating this effort. Last day is December 14 th. The hats go to the Lakota children, children of the families who come to Food, Clothing and Prayer Ministry and this year we are including children at Allen School. So, we really need a great many donations. Project Kare s Stockings for Foster Children are available. Stockings need to be returned no later than Dec. 14. A new Mission Ministry interest is Box Tops for Education. They will be saved for Allen School. Allen School is the school that the children who live in the same neighborhood as Christ Presbyterian Church attend. You will be receiving a list of products that participate in Box Tops. Until then look for the little symbol on the products you use, cut it out and save all of them in an envelope and when it gets full please turn them in in the collection plate. Each symbol is worth 10 cents. This mission will be a year round event with no deadline. ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ ❺ PANERA BREAD BRINGS IN THE DOUGH AND MEETS GREAT KNEAD! Five things you knead to know about the Panera Bread Ministry Since the start-up of this ministry (1/15/2013) our Panera Bread Ministry has raised over $14, That s a lot of dough for mission! Session dedicates all that dough to mission use: The Food and Clothing Ministry, the Pine Ridge Mission, and the 2014 Youth Mission Trip (among others missions) have all bene ited from the dough raised from selling day-old bread. The products that we do not use are then delivered to The Salvation Army for their use. Sometimes we are able to use leftovers to supplement our own Food and Clothing ministry and sometimes it helps provided additional food for our monthly Saturday Morning Community Breakfast. NOTHING GOES TO WASTE! We knead your help. We knead to establish a team willing to carry on with the ministry. There is knead for those willing to: Pick up the bread from Panera Package the bread on Sunday mornings Attend the Panera Bread Table on Sunday mornings Pack up, and determine the greatest need, for the leftovers. Why loaf around when you can help! Rise to the occasion! You can sign up in Cloister Hall. We will gather together soon to organize our work. Pastor Dave

12 Get all the holiday baked goods you need in one day at a Christmas Cookie Bake and Exchange Saturday, December 13th 11:00am-2:00pm Here s how it works: You bring with you your pre-prepared dough to make 10 dozen cookies and anything you need to finish off the cookies (sprinkles, icing, nuts, etc.) Then we all work together taking advantage of the church kitchen s many large ovens to get them baked and decorated. When they re done, we plate them up and each of us leaves with 10 dozen cookies with lots of variety. There is a space limit of 20 people for this event, so be sure to sign up early on the sign up sheet at the kiosk. As an added bonus: If you have children who like icing and decorating cookies, we ll have cut-out cookies they can decorate that we will plate up and deliver to area organizations that serve the less fortunate of our community. Children who attend are not part of the 20 people limit. Have any questions? Contact Jennie George at the church office or at jgeorge@cantoncpc.org. Psst...Church Christmas Caroling will be this day and they are meeting at 2:00 p.m. It s a great family activity, and you are welcome to keep your cookies here until you get back!
