12 Clive Driskill-Smith, organ & Joseph Gramley, percussion Sunday, February 15, :00 pm At Christ Presbyterian Church, Canton, Ohio Co-sponsored by the Gibbs Music Fund of Christ Church Percussion and organ, a somewhat surprising combination with a surprisingly pleasing sound, now has its own duo of performers. Clive Driskill -Smith, the young English organist sensation, has teamed up with the young American percussion virtuoso Joseph Gramley, Professor of Music at the University of Michigan, and director of the university s famed Percussion Ensemble. Clive Driskill-Smith is one of the leading organists of his generation. Hailed as a ʺstar of a new generationʺ (Evening Standard), critics have praised his ʺblazing techniqueʺ and ʺunbelievable virtuosityʺ (American Guild of Organists) and described his performances as ʺintensely movingʺ and ʺtruly breathtakingʺ (Organo Pleno Melbourne). Multi-percussionist Joseph Gramley is a charismatic performer who radiates energy and a magnetic stage presence. As The Post and Courier in Charleston, SC described a Spoleto Festival appearance, ʺGifted percussionist Joseph Gramley, playing a formidable ba ery of instruments, required athletic as well as musical ability to manage this one man band... the overall effect was a ention-grabbing and memorable.ʺ He has appeared frequently and recorded with famed cellist, Yo-Yo Ma. From Copland s Fanfare for the Common Man to Holst s The Planets, and wonderful variety in between, the Christ Church chancel area with be filled with percussion instruments around the organ console: marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel, tam-tam, cymbals, snare drum, crotales, bass drum, wind chimes, and timpani. If your imagination cannot fathom all of that, and if you want a preview of this extravaganza: please check out their web link: h p:// Israel and the Holy Land February 14-24, 2016 Christ Presbyterian Church is going to Israel! Leading our pilgrimage to the Holy Land are Pastor Dave de Vries; Rabbi John Spitzer, former pastor of Temple Israel in Canton, and currently the Director of Walsh University s Jewish-Catholic Studies Institute; and Dr. John David Geib, Dean of The Logos Institute and former Professor of Biblical Studies at Malone University. Thirty-one people have already registered for the trip, and we are fast approaching the upper limit for number of participants. The tour includes visits to Tel Aviv, Galilee, and Jerusalem, including stops at many biblical sites such as the Sea of Galilee and the Garden of Gethsemane. We will also visit places of significance to the Israeli people including the Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem. In addition to the 11-day/9-night tour of Israel and the Holy Land, there is an optional extension to Eilat and Petra, February 24-26, To learn more, check info on the trip website at or contact Nancy Irving at / nbirving@gmail.com.
