Our caring volunteers are ready and willing to watch over your child while you are in service this morning. You can worship with peace of mind as all parents are given a pager so you can be contacted at a moment s notice should your child need you. An usher is able to help direct you if you need assistance. Family Worship Supplements are available at the front of the sanctuary. All children are welcome to come forward for our Children s Message. As today is a Communion Sunday, following the message, children ages 3-5 are invited to follow our teachers out for Preschool Kids Church and can be picked up in the lower level following service. REFLECTIONS & INSTRUCTIONS ON COMMUNION Communion is a time for quiet celebration. Please refrain from talking with neighbors as others are in thankful prayer. Holy communion is a gift from God to all of God s people. It does not belong to one particular church or denomination. At Christ Presbyterian Church everyone who confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is encouraged to come to the table. Appropriate responses to receiving both bread and cup include: Thanks be to God Amen Glory be to God You are encouraged to remember God s call to be part of the covenant people and a citizen in the Kingdom of Heaven (your baptism) by dipping your hand in the baptismal font as you come forward. You are welcome to receive Communion as a couple, family, and/or as friends gathered. If you have a family member who is in the choir, they can join you as you come forward. You are encouraged to sing during Communion. The choir will lead in singing meditative hymns. As you return to your seat you are encouraged to continue singing, devote yourself to prayer, or meditate on the cross.

4 *Hymn in Procession No. 196 All Glory, Laud, and Honor *Prayer of the Day (unison) Holy God, you reveal the truth about your people and the ways of our world in the suffering of the Son and his steadfast love. Show us again the image of humility you desire for us, and teach us obedience, so that self-emptying may be our pathway, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (unison) Holy God, sure of your faithfulness even in your dying, comforted by your compassion toward your people in every age, we beg your mercy for our imperfect gratitude. We have looked to you for paltry favors, when you have given everything. We have withheld from your people, our neighbors, and from your creation, our Earth, the care and tending they deserve. We have rejected the cornerstone you sent Psalm 118:22 to build a people of righteousness even here, today. Forgive our failings. Heal what we have broken, nurture what we have neglected, and lead us to your vision, so that we may know the peace of wholeness in you; in Jesus name. Amen. (Silence is observed for personal reflection.) Kyrie Hymn No. 551 (sung by all) Lord, Have Mercy (please stand) *Assurance of Pardon Leader: The love of God cannot be denied. It travels before us and between us in brave clarity. We are offered full forgiveness in this moment and receive it as a truly gracious gift. Amen.

5 *Response to the Assurance of Pardon Hymn No. 197 (stanza 3) Hosanna in the highest! that ancient song we sing, for Christ is our Redeemer; the Lord of heaven, our King. O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice. Hosanna, Loud Hosanna Children are now invited to walk to the chancel steps for the Message. LISTEN FOR GOD S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED Message for Children Following the message, children ages 3-5 are invited to follow our teachers out for Preschool Kids Church and can be picked up in the lower level following service. Children kindergarten and older will remain in service today to participate in Communion. Prayer for Illumination (unison) God of all, you gave us your only begotten Son to take the form of a servant, and to be obedient even unto death on a cross. Give us the same mind that was in Christ Jesus that sharing his humility, we may come to be with him in his glory: who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Epistle Reading Philippians 2:5-11 Imitating Christ s Humility Leader: The Word of the Lord. Pew Bible page 954 Thanks be to God. 6 OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD *Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed: Page 34 Offertory Anthem Ah, Holy Jesus Please see Hymn No. 18 for the text of this motet. *Doxology Hymn No. 606 Roger T. Petrich *Prayer of Dedication (unison) God of all good gifts, we thank you for showing us how to care for each other. May these gifts lead to great feasting for those who have no banquets set before them. May these gifts build shelters and places of prayer for those who are homeless. May these gifts proclaim your desire that all your creation live in peace. Give us grateful hearts, O God, in the name of the one who came to draw all people to himself, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. *Invitation to the Lord s Table Leader: This is the joyful feast of the people of God. Men: We have come from east and west. Women We have come from north and south. All: to feast at our Lord s table. Children: Who can come to this table? Leader: Our Savior invites all those who trust him to come to this table. *The Great Thanksgiving Children: Why do we give thanks and praise before this table? Leader: Because it is our greatest joy to give thanks and praise to God. God made the heavens and the earth and all this is in them; Girls: sun, moon, stars. Boys: mountains, rivers, and trees. Children: all the animals and people. Leader: God made us in His image to love and serve all people in the name of Jesus. That is why we join all people and all creation when we sing our praise: *Sanctus (sung by all) Hymn No. 552 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest. (Please be seated.)

7 Children: Is there another reason we give thanks and praise before his table? Leader: All glory and honor belong to God. In his mercy he gave us Christ, his Son, who was born a child, like us. He grew up to be God s perfect servant. Jesus taught God s truth. He welcomed, healed, forgave and loved people. He blessed the children. In the end, he suffered and died to save us from our sin. And God raised him up, to give us a new life. We praise God because, before he died Jesus gave us this holy meal, to share together until he comes again. Children: Why do we eat bread at this table? Leader: On the night before he died, Jesus took bread. After giving thanks, he broke it, and gave it to this disciples, saying: Take eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Children: Why do we drink from the cup at this table? Leader: That same night, Jesus took the cup, saying: This cup is for the new covenant sealed in my blood, shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me. Children: What do we remember at this table? Leader: Christ s death and resurrection for us, and the Spirit s tender care for us. And in our remembering, we offer ourselves and our gifts for the world. Children: What are we looking for as we share this meal? Leader: That is best answered in a prayer. Let us pray: Merciful God, pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on these your gifts of bread and cup, that in eating and drinking together we may be made with Christ and with one another, through Christ. All: All glory and honor are yours, almighty God, with the Holy Spirit in the holy church, now and forever. Amen. Breaking of the Bread and Pouring of the Cup Communion Anthems Agnus Dei O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us your peace. 9 Preparing for Maundy Thursday, April 2, 2015 Scripture Readings for Maundy Thursday Exodus 12:1-10; Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; John 13:1-17, 31b-35 Consider: The lectionary readings for Holy Thursday are full of sacramental themes and imagery: (1) the institution of the Passover meal in Exodus 12:1-14, just before the crossing of the sea; (2) the gift of the Lord s Supper described in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; and (3) the imagery of bathing and washing in John 13:1-17, 31b-35. Reflect on the understanding and practice of the sacraments in your congregation. How are these biblical themes and images reflected? Think about the relationship between the sacraments of baptism and the Lord s supper in your congregation. How is that relationship communicated, negotiated, or lived out? Preparing for Good Friday, April 3, 2015 Scripture Readings for Good Friday Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Psalm 22; Hebrews 10:16-25; John 18:1-19:42 Consider: The cross is the central symbol of our faith. Why do you think that is? Has its meaning changed for you over time? Jesus was willing to die for his cause, but not kill for it. How does that inform you on your Christian journey? Preparing for The Day of Resurrection, April 5, 2015 Scripture Readings for The Day of Resurrection Acts 10:34-43; Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24; Colossians 3:1-4; John 20:1-18 Consider: When Mary Magdalene first saw the resurrected Jesus, she did not recognize him, even though she knew the tomb was empty. Have you ever experienced the presence of the risen Christ, even when you were not expecting him? Are there times you have been in the presence of the risen Christ but have not recognized him? How would you know? Sunday Morning Adult Classes ~ 9:15 10:15am The Library Class is studying the Apocrypha. 14 Worried? Grieving? Feeling challenged beyond what you can bear? Lay your concerns at Jesus' feet. This year during Lent, we are adding our prayer requests to the Cross. It will be standing in Cloister Hall with pen and paper ready to receive your concerns. Tuck your requests in the wire, giving your concerns to God. As you do this, think of the stark ugliness of the rusted wire that reflects our inner pain. Then on Easter morning, we will see the Cross explode with the color and beauty of His Grace as the prayer requests are replaced with His Gifts to us of flowers, symbolizing the transition to New Life in His Kingdom. Join the transformation. "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the 60/40 campaign for the Welcome Bags for Hartville Migrant Mission. Your generosity filled over 50 bags and enough money was donated that 20 more bags will be filled by the mission. They have expressed their thanks to our church on Twitter. BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION COLLECTION will continue year round. Please cut them out of the product label and stash them in an envelope and put it in the collection plate.
