3 Religious Education Osage City: Enrollment will be September 10 & 11 after Masses in the church basement. 1st RE class will be September 18th! Scranton: Enrollment will be September 10 after Mass in the church basement. 1st RE class will be September 14! Confirmation has been set for October 12 at 7:00 PM at St. Patrick Osage City. A short reception will follow in St. Brigid Hall. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults classes: RCIA Classes begin Thursday September 22 at 7:00 PM! If you are interested or know someone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, please fill out the registration information on the back of the bulletin or contact the office. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a hands-on method of faith formation based on the Montessori method of learning. It beautifully incorporates parables and scripture readings from the Bible and the fundamental teaching of our Catholic Faith. If you have a child between the ages of 3-6 and would like more information about the CGS, please contact the office. Installation Mass: Archbishop Naumann will be in our parish on Saturday, September 10th to install Fr. Larry as our pastor at the 5:00 PM Mass in Osage City. There will be a reception following Mass in St. Brigid Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. Pulled pork and drinks will be provided. Parishioners with last names beginning A-L please bring a side and M-Z please bring a dessert. T-shirt Fundraiser: Have you seen our St. Patrick T-shirts with the Cross with the Irish Blessing on the back? Would you like one? We are taking orders for St. Patrick T-shirts. Matthew McCormick receive 4th place out of 21 countries in the Pan-American games in Asuncion, Paraguay where he competed in the Sambo competition, a form of Russian Judo or wrestling. 33 Days to Merciful Love: Fr. Brian Schieber, V.G.-Vicar for Clergy, has suggested that it would be fitting to conclude the Year of Mercy by inviting parishioners to join Archbishop Naumann in praying with Fr. Michael Gaitley s book 33 Days to Merciful Love. The book is a sequel, of sorts, to Fr. Gaitley s popular preparation for Marian consecration, 33 Days to Morning Glory. His new book is a doit-yourself retreat in preparation for consecration to Divine Mercy. Setting the Feast of Christ the King as the target for consecration would mean that parishioners would begin the 33 days on or about October 18th. We have ordered 25 books and will have them available for a $5.00 donation when we receive them. Please contact the office for more information. Parish News Osage Altar Society News: Support the Altar Society Yard Sale on September 16 and 17 with your donations and purchase. Proceeds benefit the work of St Patrick s Osage City. Donation may be dropped off beginning September 12. Scranton Altar Society News: Pantry Shower. Elizabeth Burgett, daughter of Greg & Mary Vawter Burgett is getting married to Nicholas Shandy October 7. The Altar Society is gathering gifts to help them begin their basic pantry needs. Small items such as paper products, nonperishable foods, dish soap, any kitchen or bathroom supplies may be left in the gift basket in the vestibule of Scranton. Thank you! We will "shower" Elizabeth at the September 25 Altar Society Meeting. Join us in fun & fellowship. October 8th craft table: The Altar Society will have a table at Carbondale Fall Festival on October 8th. They are accepting donations of crafts, baked goods, jellies, etc. to sell. They also will be selling raffle tickets for a hand cross-stitched (gently used) quilt. The winning ticket will be drawn at Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Dinner & Silent Auction on December 10. Walking in Prayer/Running in the Spirit: Walking in Prayer/Running in the Spirit 10K is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 at Lake Shawnee in Topeka KS at Shelter House 1 & 2. 4 Daily Readings Area News Marriage Minute What happened to the great crowds that accompanied Jesus? In our own day, many are left wondering what happened to the great crowds of people who used to attend Mass and now only attend at Christmas or Easter. This includes sons, daughters, brothers or sisters. While different people fall away from the practice of the Faith for different reasons, Jesus words in the Gospel this week give us insight. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Let s face it, following Christ is hard. Nowhere is this truer than in matters of marriage and family. What do we do? We can draw strength from the Holy Spirit, the witness of the Saints, and strive to live a joyful life that convinces our loved ones that we are stronger and happier people with the Eucharist present in our lives. A joyful family life is the greatest message we can send. Special Collection: Collection for Catholic University: This weekend, we will take up the National Collection for The Catholic University of America. As the national university of the Catholic Church, it is unique among Catholic universities in the United States. Its mission is to serve the Church through education and research - a service that is greatly needed today. University faculty and scholars promote Catholic social teaching and, through their research and discourse, help form the Church s response to challenging social issues of our time. CUA educates hundreds of priests and religious each year and can proudly call over 12,000 of them alumni. Please support CUA. Louisiana Flood Victim Assistance: In the recent flooding in Louisiana, as many as 60,000 homes have been damaged as well as churches and schools. Our prayer and material support is urgently needed to help rebuild lives in flood ravaged communities and parishes. Please support the special collection that will be taken up September 17 & 18. Fall Training Opportunities: Patrice Spirou from the Archdiocese of Atlanta will join us the weekend of September for Fall Training at 5 different locations throughout rural ArchKCK. Please share the word with your parishioners all adults are welcome and your rural parish youth program can earn grant money based on parishioner attendance. Mass of Innocents: Have you or someone you know lost a child or loved one during pregnancy or in early infancy? If so, Archbishop Naumann invites you to commemorate this loss at this Mass on Sunday, Oct 2, at 3:30 pm, at Cure of Ars Parish in Leawood, KS (9401 Mission Rd.). This annual Mass gives parents, grandparents, siblings, or other loved ones the opportunity to receive consolation whether the loss was recent or many years ago. Gaitley will be giving a retreat at Savior Pastoral Center on October 28th and 29th, 2016 entitled Mercy and Mary Retreat Weekend. The retreat is sponsored by the Marian Missionaries of Divine Mercy.
