If you re asking, What is frybread?... Frybread links Indian generation with generation and also connects the present to the painful narrative of Native American history. Navajo frybread originated 144 years ago, when the United States forced Indians living in Arizona to make the 300-mile journey known as the Long Walk and relocated to New Mexico, onto land that couldn t easily support their traditional staples of vegetables and beans. To prevent the indigenous populations from starving, the government gave them canned goods as well as white flour, processed sugar and lard-the makings of frybread. Frybread is like a funnel cake without being sweet. We will be using it as a tortilla for taco meat. Come try some frybread and help support our Triplett Mission trips!! SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATE... The Loyalty Sunday School class meets in the Christian Life Center. They will be starting an Advent Study called The Christmas Experience by Kyle Idleman on Sunday, November 29 th. An imaginative Bible-based study that examines the important truths discovered in the first Christmas. There is an important truth that we discover as we experience that first Christmas. God always keeps His promises. For all of us that find ourselves feeling like it is always winter and never Christmas, we often feel distanced from God. But through this study and the story of Christmas, we find out that we can always trust God s timing. The Topical Bible Studies Class meets in the Hut, and is doing a study called The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. The most basic question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose? A self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God s purposes for putting us on earth. Please feel free to join either class in one of these wonderful Bible studies. Both classes meet at 10:00 am. BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS... Sunday, November 29 th in the 3 yr old day care classroom. SPECIAL OFFERING... will be taken on Sunday, November 29 th for United Methodist Student Day. Your gift prepares students to continue the rich Methodist tradition of changing the world through a life of service for Christ. LOVE FEAST... Please plan to attend this special service on Sunday, November 29 th at 5:00 pm. A Love Feast is a service dedicated to Christian love and is most famously practiced by the Moravians. The Moravian Love Feast is based on the Agape Feast and the meals of the early churches described in the book of Acts. Traditionally, a sweetened bun and coffee is served to the congregation in the pews by dieners (from the German for servers). During the Love Feast there is singing of hymns and listening to music. A special candle is given to each congregation member at the end of the service. We hope you will come and enjoy this beautiful celebration of the Christmas season. PRAYER TEAM UPDATE! We are in need of snacks for the children to have after they get home from school. For many, this is their evening meal. Once again we are in need of coats -new or gently used and new socks and underwear for children K-5th grades. We cannot thank you enough for all you have helped us with for these children.

3 THE TASTEFUL TABLE... Is there a copy of this book in your home? If not, there should be!!! It contains many tasteful recipes that have been tried out and proven delicious by Triplett members and friends. If you re a new member or just visiting, you need to check out this cookbook. Trust me, there s some delicious food between those 125 pages. I ve given a copy of this book to every older female member in my family. We report to each other recipes we ve tried and make recommendations for others to do the same. If you re like me, a big part of staying happy is found in eating. Come on folks! If you don t have a copy, you can get one for $ They make perfect gifts, too. (Christmas is on the way!) Buy one for yourself and for the ladies or cooking gentlemen in your life. You ll be glad you did!! Thanks from the Andy Thompson Scholarship Committee. FOOD PANTRY...Our Food Pantry is being used now more than ever before. Last week there were five families sent by DSS to our pantry for food. This happens just about every week. DSS sends people to Triplett, because our Pantry is open every day until 5 pm. There are many pantries only open certain days of the week and only until Noon. Please consider donating to our Food Pantry so we can keep this important and necessary mission going. A list of items that we keep in the Pantry is listed on the bulletin board. Place your donations under the Narthex table. During November, there will be a food tree in the Narthex to collect items to supply our food pantry. If you can t get to the store to purchase food, please consider making a monetary donation. Thank you for your support! UMW MISSION PROJECT: Collecting toothbrushes for Native American children in Montana. We would like to invite you to help us with this important project...which the Lord has placed on our hearts. BACK PACKS...Did you know that we supply food for 12 children each week through our Back Pack Program to Lakeshore Middle School? Each Friday we take bags of food to the school guidance counselor who gives that out to kids so the kids will have food over the weekend while not at school. Vanderburg UMC helps supply some of the food for this program, but as you can imagine, our supplies go quickly. Please consider picking up some items for this ministry. Items include: juice boxes, small cereal boxes, small packs of peanut butter, small fruit containers, microwave spaghettios, ravioli, mac-n-cheese, soup, peanut butter crackers, beanie-weenies, breakfast bars, apple sauce, packs of raisins. The bags need to be lightweight, so everything needs to be small. Thank you for your support!! Please place donations under the Narthex table and mark back pack program. SHOPPING CARD REMINDER: Think about your week. Will there be a trip to Walmart, Food Lion, a local restaurant, a clothing store, home improvement or other needs? If so, please stop by and purchase a shopping card. Remember, when you do, it s a little more cash in our pay down our buildings account. In addition to your weekly shopping and dining needs, please remember we can make your Christmas shopping EASY. The Great Lakes Scrip Center has many participating retailers. Call or stop by and let us know what your Christmas Gift Card Needs are. Chances are we can take care of them. Cards are ordered on Monday and arrive in the church office on Friday.
