1 301 I St SW, Quincy WA, (509) Worship Service: 10:30am September 2, 2016 Passionately following Jesus Christ in Word Worship Service Community Prayer Not Finished Yet I was in a meeting this past week. The leader read a scripture verse and prayed for the group as we began. It wasn t a prolonged devotional, but a thought has been developing within me since then. The scripture that was read says this: And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Philippians 1:6 NLT) I like the fall and also experience some anxiety at the beginning of autumn. I like the fall because it is a time of beginning. September has represented the starting line. I am conditioned to the school calendar. I was a student for 18 years (As I like to say,

2 my senior year of college was the best 3 years of my life). I worked at a University for 15 years. My children have been and are still students. For 17 years of pastoring, my ministry calendar has been built around the school year. The starting line is an exciting place to be. It holds hope and promise. It can also be a place of fear. What if my hopes are not fulfilled? What if I fail? Can I finish what I ve started? Can I run the entire race? As September begins I am feeling both excitement and fear. I am looking forward to sharing a word of vision with the church on Vision Sunday, September 11. I have absolutely no doubt that God wants me to deliver this vision. I have spent months of process with our staff and leadership in preparing for this day. As convinced as I am of what I am to say, I also have some anxiety. Will the church receive what I have to share? Can I be effective in communicating what I am certain is from God for us (QFMC)? The thought that was born from pondering the scripture I shared earlier is this: I m not finished yet, so I will stay this course and trust that He who began a good work in me will be faithful to complete it. Have you ever felt the tug-of-war between these compete emotions? There is no shame if you have. It might indicate that you are right where you are suppose to be. The temptation is to abandon your commission and divert your course? In order to stay your course, you will need to exercise your faith in the ONE who begins and completes the work HE started in you. Your will and HIS power. Friend, you are not yet done! Your work, your marriage, your healing, your dream, your journey is not yet finished! Stay your course trusting that your God will finish what He began in you!
