2 Thoughts from our Staff.. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 Jesus is alive! He s risen! What wonderful news! Jesus died, and rose again. Have you seen Him? Do you know He s alive? I am so thankful that God has revealed Himself to me, and I know He is real and Jesus is alive! Jesus died for us, defeating death, hell, and the grave. He arose on the third day. Paul says in verses 16 and 17 that if Christ hasn t raised from the dead, then we are still dead in our sins. Do we live as free people, or do we live as those enslaved by sin? What does the world see? What is the message we preach? Jesus is alive! We don t have to be dead in our sins anymore! We are alive today in Jesus! We have hope! There are 5.8 million people in NC, and 80,000 people in Cleveland County who need to know this! When I played baseball as a kid, I heard this phrase a lot from coaches in the dugout and parents in the stands. Look alive, look alive! We need to look ALIVE, CHURCH! We are alive in Christ, not on our own, but alive in Jesus. Some of you have described your church as dead? Why is that? Is it just because worship is dull? I believe many churches are dead because they are trying to do church without the power of the Holy Spirit. Look alive! Alive in Christ! Thanks be to God for mercy and grace! But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. 1 Corinthians 15:10-11 Wesley WE OCCUPY AN IMPORTANT PLACE IN THE WORLD AS MISSIONARIES "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen." Matthew 28:18-20 Southern Baptists have been classified for more than 250 years as the champions in the number of sent missionaries, and our support around the world. The world knows us for our hearts as missionaries to go, do, BAPTIZE, teach, and save. We also know that the King has made us strong, firm, and solid promises that He is who sends us, and also that we are forever in His presence. Today, we are to worried about the here and now to continue motivating the servants who are not going out and lighting up the world for Christ. Do not lose His enthusiasm, rather, let the first love of your spiritual lives continue on, marching, ordering and sending men, women and children one by one, so that you fulfill the Great Commission in the life of each member of the Body of Christ. Do not let the enemy take advantage of us, let not old age invade us. Do not allow the enemy to cause you to lose strength. Don't let the force that still has life dwell among the congregation. Don't allow man's directed plans to prevail, but instead pursue the plans of God. Have the patience to make every day a chance to accomplish what God has commanded us to do. The Great Commission has active verbs that should be the energy that moves the work. These really are promoting evangelism. This is coming out of the comfort zone to go in search of the lost, actually teaching His word, actually keeping order in your hearts, and being alive and active. Think of how many souls you could bring to the feet of Jesus Christ, how many baptisms per year could be performed versus the reality of the statistics. Are you really in the footsteps of the Master, or have you allowed distractions and setbacks to take you off the path? Brethren, pastors, teachers and servants, we have to stoke the fire of the spirit of the living God who dwells in us, and be compliant and obedient to His death on the cross. Blessings Rev. José. A. Espinal, Hispanic Language Missionary
3 This past week we had Spring Revival at Eastside and Adrian Dupres was our guest speaker. One night Adrian told us we were going to celebrate Jesus birthday. He challenged us not to spend time thinking about and planning what we were going to give to others at His party but to decide and wrap up what we were giving to Jesus. As I thought about my present to Jesus, so many things came to mind. I want to give Him my time, my talent, my money, my job, my family, the list could go on and on. But in order to stay focused I knew I needed to pick one to work on over the next few weeks and months. So, I have decided to give Jesus my time, and I will do this by slowing down so that I can spend more time in prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking His guidance in everything I do. I know this may mean saying no to other things that would distract me and fill my time but this is my birthday gift to Jesus. I hope He likes it and all its messy wrapping! Now, I ask you what is going to be your gift to Jesus? How will you wrap it up? I challenge you to spend time in prayer this week and make a decision about your gift.
