MAR/APR 2017 Sunday Worship time: 1030am Adult Sunday School: 9:30am Childcare is available during worship March 1 Ash Wednesday Prayer Service April 9 Palm Sunday Celebrated April 14 Good Friday Service April 16 Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service 8:30, Regular Service 10:30 May 14 Mother's Day & Confirmation Celebrated PO Box 99, 305 East Main St. Fayette, OH Church: Parsonage: Andreas Cell: FLC: Website: fayetteumc.org As we journey through our lives of faith we come to stops along the road when we take extra time to learn more about our faith and grow into the disciples God is calling us to be. One of those times is confirmation. Confirmation is a special time when students learn about Jesus, the church, and their faith. Then at the end of the time of learning they have the opportunity to confirm their faith by taking on the vows of baptism for themselves. Confirmation is a milestone in the journey of faith that is transforming for both students and families. Beginning the first Sunday of March, Fayette United Methodist Church will be offering confirmation classes for students in grades 7-9 that have not been previously confirmed. Each Sunday we will meet as a group to learn more about topics such as The history of the church, Who is Jesus?, What do Christians believe? and How to pray. During our meetings we will play games, create art projects, enjoy snacks and learn more about Jesus and each other. Classes will take place from March 5 through April 30. Classes will be held at the Church/Family Life Center from 1o:30am- 1:30pm and leaders from FUMY will assist in teaching each class. On May 7th we will celebrate the Confirmation of our students during worship. You are invited to pray for our confirmation students as well as Pastor Andrea, Wendy Kessler, and Aaron Hylander who will be working with the students to teach them more about Jesus and the church. If you have questions about Confirmation please contact Pastor Andrea via or cell phone. 2 This year as we enter March we also enter the season of Lent. Lent is a season in the Christian year that allows us to pause and to take an inventory of our faith life as we prepare for the Resurrection joy of Easter. Each year we mark this season by coming to Ash Wednesday services to receive ashes on our foreheads. This is to remind us that we were once dust and to dust we shall return (Ecclesiastes 3:20). Our lives are short, finite, fleeting. Lent is a time in our christian year that calls us to notice our frailty and learn to depend even more on our God. Lent reminds us that apart from Christ we are powerless, enslaved to sin, and hopeless for the future. It is Jesus who holds the keys t our future, it is his saving grace that allows us the opportunity for eternity. Without Him we are set adrift in life, wandering aimlessly. Jesus gives meaning to our wanderings, he calls us back to him in the 40 days of Lent. How will you respond? Throughout Lent we will offer several opportunities to connect more deeply with your faith in Christ. On Thursday nights beginning March 9th we will dive deeper into the Beatitudes as we study the Bible together. Each Bible study will begin at 6:30pm and will be held the FLC. We will be using a guide book to the beatitudes called Heaven on Earth: Realizing the Good Life Now by Chris Seidman and Joshua Graves. All are welcome to join in as we learn about Jesus teachings on God s blessings. You can also connect by subscribing to our Lenten Prayer blog called Praying Along the Way. Each day a devotion, written by Pastor Andrea, will be shared based on the lectionary readings for the day. You can subscribe via or visit our Facebook page or Website for links. The blog web address is Each daily devotion will have prompts for prayer journaling and gratitude journaling. These may be Lenten disciplines that you want to add to your spiritual practice this season. I hope that each of these opportunities will be places where God meets you as you walk to road of Lent that leads us to the Cross of Good Friday and the empty tomb of Easter. May we each draw closer to God ad God draws closer to us. Christ s Blessings and Peace, Pastor Andrea

4 Fayette Kids Kupboard For the past 3 years Backpacks for Bellies has been a ministry of our congregation. During this time we have been able to provide 5-7 at risk families with a source of food on the weekends when children are not able to receive a school lunch. Unfortunately the need in the Fayette School System far exceeds what our church alone can provide. School personnel have shared that there are many children coming to school hungry every day. This makes it difficult for the children to focus on their school work. In order to meet this growing need, the Fayette School District has formed Kids Kupboard. The goal for this project is to provide meals for 25 plus families on a weekly basis. The school has asked all area churches to assist with the program. We have decided to join our Backpack for Bellies Ministry with the Kid Kupboard in order to meet the needs of more families. Thank you for your continued support of the children of our community. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to contract Robin Pfund or Pastor Andrea. How can you help?
