W ILL COLEY, PASTOR Hello Parkman, When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, I drew him out of the water. (Exodus 2:10). This is a powerfully foreshadowing verse. The Israelites had been in bondage so long that they had no clue what it looked like to be free, which we will see when they finally are free and they start complaining about how much better they had it back in Egypt. We honestly can look back at them and say, no, you are being drawn out by God right now, He is fighting for you, He is taking care of you. The problem is this, in the midst of God working on our lives we start to find ourselves fighting with our human nature and the will of God. Luckily for us God does all the work and we just need to submit to Him. The reason the book of Exodus is so powerful is because it shows us the reality of what God is doing in the lives of those who are His children. We learned this past summer while looking in Ephesians that In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:10,11) God has drawn us those who are true sons and daughters of the Lord out of bondage as well. God has drawn us out of the sins and the world where we were held captive. Like Moses though, we were drawn out for a reason to glorify God in all we do. Interestingly enough though, like Moses, God is also working through those who are His today; For we are God s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). This is why you are truly able to test someone who says they are a follower of God and discern whether or not they truly are. Those who are children of God are on a mission to like Moses draw others who are God s children out of bondage and into the life God desires for them. God uses His children to fulfill His plan. The question though is are you are child of God? If you are then you are on a mission to shine God s light and His love on a lost and dying world. You are on a mission to reach the lost for the glory of God. Jesus said to His disciples one day, the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field (Matthew 9:37,38). He was talking to His disciples who became the apostles - and challenged them to pray for workers. Remember what Ephesians says about Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. It says that God gave these five ministries to prepare Gods people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:12). The reason I ask the question are you a child of God is because throughout the history of God s chosen people we see that there have been those who have claimed to be God s children yet they aren t. Everyone who says they are a child of God needs to test themselves against the Word of God. We need to be constantly seeking the Lord in everything we do, allowing God to work through us. The reason for this is that we are so often like Moses who lies to God saying O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue (Exodus 4:10). Moses lied to the Lord and the Lord became angry with Moses. The Lord became angry because He knew Moses heart, Moses was so much like us, making up excuse after excuse. God though had a plan and that plan was to use Moses to fulfill His promise that He had made to Abraham. That s the funny thing about God He never forgets His promise. His will use those who are His to do His work even if they fight with Him for a while look at Moses life and Jonah s just for two quick examples. So, the question to you is are you the one that the leaders of the body of Christ since the day Jesus said to pray for the harvesters have been praying for, ones that truly have had their eyes open. Are you one of the ones who claims to be a child of God yet like Moses you have been lying to God and need to learn to submit to Him. Or, are you one of the ones who claims to be a child of God but truly aren t a child. Test yourself against the scriptures. We are always supposed to be seeking the Will of the Lord. The harvest is plentiful, yet the workers are few. Those of us who are His are on the same mission that Moses was on we have been drawn out in order for God to draw us in. But we have also been drawn out in order to draw others out of darkness and into light. It s harvest time and no better time to start taking that reality and applying it to our lives than during the fall. Let s get to work. God Bless Pastor Will

2 Exodus 4:10 Moses said to the Lord, O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech. Moses just flat out lied to God here and God knew it. Acts 7 states, Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. Moses had been given the best education and was powerful. Remember he was 40 years old when he struck down the Egyptian for beating a Hebrew. He had spent 4 decades living in and among royalty. Here s the problem though; even with all of Moses education and achievements while still living in Egypt, Moses wasn t seeking God. This is why when Moses struck down that Egyptian and was caught, Moses fled, and Moses lost his sense of confidence. You see, when you put your worth in something that isn t of God, when you put your sense of value in something that isn t of God and you finally hit the wall of failure, you start to question everything. Moses here having fled Egypt had lost everything he ever knew, his family, his power, his identity. This brought him to a very dark place. It was in that dark place though that God was able to meet him and make him into the man that God intended him to be. The question for you is do you need to go to that dark place as well in order for God to make you into the person He desires you to be, or will you surrender to Him now and allow Him to work on you? Parkman Congregational Church Madison Road (Route 528, just north of Route 422) Parkman, OH The trustees worked on Tuesday evening, the 12th of September. A new mailbox has been installed, as the post office will start charging for a box at the Post Office. The new address is: Madison Road, Middlefield, Oh A new blind was installed in the crying room/nursery. There are no cords on this, and it raises by simply lifting up on the bottom. We also tried to plug up holes in the basement of the parsonage. We have a work day scheduled for the 23rd of September. Hope you can help, as many hands make the work lighter! Respectfully submitted, Kathy Imhof, David Smith, Fred Ogrinc, and Andy Light. 3

4 Administrative Council Minutes September 28, 2017 The Administrative Council met on September 28, 2017 in the library with the following present: Dave Smith, Frank Bosak, Denise Villers, Kathy Imhof, Kevin Phile and Diane Beeman. Kevin Phile called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm; Kathy Imhof opened with prayer. Minutes from the August 24, 2017 meeting were read and approved as read. Treasurer s Report The checking account had a beginning balance of $ as of July 31, After receipts in the amount of $12, and checks in the amount of $12, leaving an ending balance of $15.86 as of August 31, The savings account had a beginning balance of $10, as of July 31, 2017, after interest in the amount of $2.63 leaving a balance of $10, as of August 31, Since the receipts and checks have been very close in amounts, the missions fund have not been transferred. $3,000 will be transferred from savings to the missions account. Trustees Dave brought up something about terrorism insurance and decided against. Appraisal for real estate whet down and therefore property taxes should decrease. Painting of south entrance needs finished. Fence at parsonage needs painted or sealed. Work day did not go too well but much work was completed. There are several projects that still need finished, but not necessarily before winter. A decision on a memory wall has been tabled for now. Elders No church service on Sunday, October 29th in order to have a United Service at Cardinal High School. It has been discussed to discontinue cabinet meetings and replace it with the leadership meeting. It was asked if a clerk was still needed at these meetings. Frank will check with the elders. Discussing the elected positions for next year. It seems like there will be quite a bit of movement this year just because people are moving on in what they would like to do in the church. The constitution has been reviewed by the elders and sent back to constitutional review committee for their feedback. The constitution should be ready for the congregation s review and a special meeting to discuss the constitution revisions very soon. A separate meeting will follow two to three weeks later for vote. Deacons-No report Missions-Missions met with Pastor Will and Kevin Phile to go over their budget. Their one concern is they are in arrears. The impression is that there will be new members next year. There were 36 reservations for the veteran s appreciation dinner with only a couple no-shows. Worship-This month Brian Westover participated in a service with Pastor Will. It was an interesting way of doing things and are discussing doing it again with other area pastors. Everything went well with the livestream to Brian s church. We are getting about 10 views per sermon on YouTube so it is being well received. We have also seen more exposure through Google searchers and have been getting more calls and interest in the last quarter. Christian Fellowship-Progressive dinner was September 9. It was good as always. The salad course was added to the main course location since we did not have a location for salads. Just under 30 people attended. Canopy walk has been cancelled. Tickets are not available in advance and a chance of being too busy at that time. The walking would also be too difficult for many people. Instead, the next event will be on Saturday, October 21 at the Observatory in Montville. Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society will be on site to be our guides. In case of inclement weather, there will be an indoor planetarium show. The event will be preceded by a potluck dinner at the home of Jim and Denise Toth. lthere is no cost for the observatory. Women s Fellowship-Meeting was preempted by cleaning in the storage room. Next meeting is October 9, location to be announced. Christian Education-No report Ministry Placement-No report Pastors Report-No report New Business-No new business Kevin Phile closed the meeting at 8:20 pm. Those in attendance circled in prayer.
