1 Circuit Writer November 2017 Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face. He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. Deuteronomy 34:10-12 Dear Friends in Christ: Greetings! The month of November is at hand and we are entering into a season of festivities, thanksgiving and also a sacred time of remembering all the saints and loved ones who have passed on. According to the UMC Lectionary the month of November has been set as the Season of Saints. Each Sunday it suggests meditations on the following: Clothing of the Saints; Stories of the Saints; Thanksgiving of the Saints; Shepherd of the Saints. Last Wednesday in our weekday services we concluded meditations on the Exodus story, particularly by looking at the death of Moses and we thanked God for his life, mission and sacrifice in the work of his Lord for the people of God. Moses has led the people from bondage in Egypt and led them up till the Promised Land. It was sad to see that he could not enter the Promised Land but in faith he persevered to obey and follow God s command. In the light of Moses story, we remembered modern day prophets and people of God who strived for the freedom and liberation of all those who are struggling and striving for freedom and justice. The story of Moses also calls each of us to respond and obey to our own calling. To live as channels of God s mercy, peace and justice for all God s people in our own context. Therefore we give thanks to God for people like Moses and all the prophets, disciples, apostles, saints and all who remain as model of faith and ministry and have passed on to eternity. We also remember our members and loved ones who passed into the eternal presence of God. We pray for eternal peace for Dewey Criddle, Jiggs Willman, Mary Snyder, Chris Raymer, Linda Chriest, Judy Nehrkorn, Wayne Smith, Wilma Russell, and Virginia Hunter and all other loved ones and friends whom we lost this year. May God s continued comfort and peace be with all their families. At, we are getting ready for our Annual Conference on the 16 th of November at 7pm. Those of you who are able please come to find the State of our, the new committees, budget etc. I have mentioned in my report the changes, accomplishments and plans for our future together. I have also mentioned some of the challenges we all face together, such as the grim financial situation as well as the dwindling of regular church attendance and participation. I am constantly praying and interceding that our God may help us through these challenges as the LORD walked through with the people in the Exodus story. At the same time, I also thank God for all the accomplishments and faithful stewardship of most of you in working for the church and bringing glory to God s holy name. Finally, I wish you all a blessed month of November. Please uphold one another in your prayers and please pray earnestly for our and for all that we do together here. Pray that we spiritually mature, that we excel in our mission, that we are financially healthy and that we continue to bring glory to God. Using historical information, archaeological data, and a personal look at some of the stories surrounding the birth, the most amazing moment in history will become more real and heart-felt as you walk along this road. 4 Rock Falls United Methodist, Council Meeting Thursday, October 19, 2017 Those present included Donna Brooks, Jodi Perez, Carol Siefken, Rod Brooks, Larry Thompson, Pastor, Kevin Henson, Janelle Henson, Geo Logan Jr. and Russ Siefken. Devotion, Jodi and opening prayer Pastor. Staff Parrish - working with staff for the coming year. Finance 2018 budget was passed and will be presented at the charge conference. Each week the churches financial information will be printed in the informer. Pledge letters for 2018 have been sent, everyone is encouraged to pray over their pledge for Everyone needing any kind of supplies for the church are asked to check with someone on finance thru the end of the year before ANYTHING is purchased. Trustees committee has gone thru the parsonage and the church to make a list of items that need to be given attention in The basement work on the parsonage has been completed. Membership we have 265 members. Women Beef N Noodle dinner coming up on November 9. Recognized Nima Sudhakar, Matthew Laws and Owen Laws for their service to the church. Raised over $1,600 with the rummage sale. Christian Education - 16 people have been attending the Pray Like Jesus class. Nominations the committee has been working on filling all the open positions for 2018 the complete list of committees and members will be voted on at the church conference. Pastor s Report has been meeting with the worship committee to put together a schedule for the remainder of this year. There will be a peace walk beginning at the new Rock Falls Park on Thursday, October 19, beginning at 6 and walking over to Sterling to the peace poll at Grandon Park. Council Chair: Thanks to Janelle for taking care of the picture project. If you have not had your picture taken please call Janelle Henson at Thanks to everyone taking part in honoring the minister for Pastor Recognition Sunday. It was a great cake. Laity Sunday thanks to those participating. Everyone is invited to participate in the Conference to be held on November 16 at 7 p.m. The annual meeting with our District Superintendent celebrates ourministry, we elect officers and committees plus look to the future of our church. This is a great opportunity for our members to find out what goes on daily, weekly and monthly in order to make our church great. Thanks to everyone for stepping up to join a church committee. Thanks to the nomination committee for their work on nominations. Three finance members will be attending Protecting the Cookie Jar put on by the conference in order to protect the church.
