So much could happen this year and people are excited. Some are excited because our country is getting a new president. Others are excited because they have a few months left before they graduate. Still others are excited because they received some really cool gifts for Christmas. And then there are those who are excited because God has opened their eyes. There is so much to be excited for. With the beginning of a New Year comes the tradition of resolutions. People decide to either give something up, or start something new. The idea behind this is that they will start off the New Year on a good note. This is a great tradition, except many people realize that they start off with the best intentions, and yet by the end of January they find themselves back in their old patterns. I have been joking with some people about getting a red hat and having the words Make Parkman Great Again printed on it. The idea obviously came from President Elect Trump s campaign hat, and while not everyone is excited about Trump being elected, I think there is something we can all cling to with that slogan. Our country has been going in the wrong direction and we have the opportunity to start something here. We have the opportunity to bring to a lost and dying world the idea of peace, love, hope, and joy. In doing so people will begin to realize something. Some will realize that the church building is just a place for people to come and learn about how great our God is, and at the same time to be build up for going out and fulfilling the Great Commission. Others will realize that worship isn t about us, it is about honoring God. And still others will have their eyes opened by the Lord as we do what we are called to do. We have an amazing opportunity in the New Year. So let s start the New Year off with a bang. Let s, as a body of believers, decide that we are going to strive to know God more. But let s also take it to the next level. Let s decide as a body of believers to understand what God s call is for us to go out and to be a light in the darkness. Let s, let s, let s, let s sounds like a New Year s resolution to me. While this might sound like a great New Year s resolution, we also need to realize that it is what having a relationship with our Lord and Savior looks like. As followers of Christ we should strive to figure out what Christ desires of us. We are all a part of the body of Christ, yet each part of the body has a different function. It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13 As a body of believers in Parkman, Ohio let us decide this year that faith is not about what God can do for us, let s flip the notion around and figure out what we are called to do for God. Christ has already done what was needed to be done. He stepped down to earth, walked amongst us, and died on a cross. But it didn t stop there, He rose again and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. Knowing this we have to figure out what it means for each and every one of us to find our place in the body of Christ. God has done the work and God has commanded us to go out and bring the Good News to a lost and dying world. Let s start doing our part in the New Year. Let s bring Love, Hope, Joy, and Faith to a world in desperate need of a Savior. Let s follow God Bless Pastor Will

For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. Psalm 117:1-2 We are spending the next few weeks looking at Psalms of praise. Our God is an awesome God and we should desire to praise Him. One way we do this is by singing songs on Sunday mornings praising God. Yet there is a common problem around the world. People tend to get stuck liking a certain style of music. They want what appeals to them and it turns from praising God to complaining about worship styles. This is common all across the world because we have preferences when it comes to music. Over the coming weeks we will be singing 4 different styles of worship music. The reason for it is simple; it isn t about the style of music, it s about the heart. We tend to like what we are comfortable with. Some like what they grew up with, they like what is tradition. While others like the newer rocked out stuff. And yet there are still others who like what I call touchy-feely music. We need to realize that praise music isn t about any of this. Praise music isn t about touching our souls or even about our likes. Worship/praise music is about singing out to our heavenly Father thanking Him for what He has done. I heard about Matt Redman s church. Many of you know that he is a famous worship leader. The pastor at Redman s church stopped the worship music for several weeks. They had no music, imagine what would happen if a pastor around here did that, people would leave, they would complain, and our churches are small compared to Redman s church. The reason he stopped music was simple, people weren t worshipping God; they were coming to hear Redman sing. What came out of this was Matt writing a song called, the heart of worship. It is a powerful song and it is so true. I m coming back to the heart of worship, and it s all about you, it s all about you Jesus. JANUARY MEMORY VERSE - Psalm 34:1b 2

3 December 12th was our last meeting of the year. We ended the year with our annual potluck dinner, where we all enjoyed a wonderful dinner and many yummy desserts. January is always a slow month so we take this time to clean the kitchen and to get it ready for the upcoming year. Our next meeting will be at the Church January 9th at 7:00 PM and hosted by Gail Duchscherer. Annual Reports will be available for review at the church two weeks prior to the meeting. 3

4 UN-Hanging of the Greens (Taking down all the Christmas decorations at the church) Make plans to join us at the church on Friday, January 6 th at 6:00 p.m. We ll start with a simple dinner (provided) and then get to work removing and boxing up the decorations for storage until next Christmas. We will then be rewarded with a tasty dessert once the work is done. Please sign up at the bulletin board so that we can plan accordingly for the dinner The Christian Fellowship Ministry will coordinate the potluck after worship on Sunday, January 29 th (before the annual meeting). We will have a planning meeting in early February to map out the year s activities. If you would like to join our team or have some fresh ideas, please join us! Watch the weekly bulletins for an exact meeting date. We hope to see you! ANNUAL SUPERBOWL PARTY Join us as we gather at the home of Scott & Denise Villers (17880 Owen Road Parkman) on Sunday, February 5 th. Please bring a dish to share (snack and/or dinner food) and any games that you like. We know there s a big football game on TV, but some of us like to play our own games, too! All ages are welcome! The game starts at 6:30 but come on over any time after 5 p.m. We hope to see you there! (NOTE: If you are a true football fan, this may not be the best place for you to watch the game.)
