Since then I ve found myself unable to let these verses go. I think of my son. I think of his vulnerability and the care he needs. I think about how he cries when I leave him at the babysitters and how it makes my heart hurt even though I know he s totally fine and I ll see him again in a few hours. And then I think about all of the children who have been forcibly removed from the arms of their parents and held in glorified cages. This for the horrible sin of having parents who want them to be safe and have their best life but don t happen to have the right paperwork. I think about how their parents don t know when or if they will see their children again and don t know if they re going to be okay. I think about all of that, and I weep for those children and for their parents and for all of us. I hear Jesus words from the gospel of Mark, and I think he weeps too. So I want to offer a prayer: Loving God, I pray for all those children who have been removed from their parents care and are suffering that fear and that loneliness. I pray for their safety and that they will soon be reunited with their parents. I pray for their parents. Even trying to imagine the pain they are going through makes it difficult to breathe. Bring them hope. Bring their children home to them. I pray for all those that our society so easily casts aside, for your beloved children who are too often treated as nothing more that statistics. I pray for those whose lives don t seem to matter, for the voices that are discounted and silenced. Forgive us for the hardness of our collective hearts. Gracious God, lift up people who will look out for the lost and least. Move all of us to work for change. Send the fire of your Holy Spirit into our hearts that we may act as your hands, that we may be your living will in the world. Have mercy, O God, in Christ s name. Amen. This is the perfect opportunity to sign up in an area that may interest you. We are specifically looking for more assistance with the altar guild and in need of more ushers. If you have volunteered for things in the past and no longer would like to, this is the time to let us know too. If you are currently an active steward in an area, you do not need to resign up.
