For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 It s been one of those days. Actually, it s been more like one of those months. Many of you are probably already aware, but about a month and a half ago my father suffered a rather severe stroke. These kinds of traumatic events are things you can never plan for, never be truly ready for. You simply have to deal with them when they happen. And that can be very frustrating and stressful and consuming and heart breaking. But the reality is, we all have gone/will go through these types of moments in our lives. We will all face times that are frustrating and stressful and consuming and heart breaking. And that is both profoundly sad and incredibly comforting. It s sad because of just how much grief and suffering there is in the world, but it s also comforting knowing that we don t have to face it alone. We are surrounded by people who have been where we are. They know the way out. Everyone at Peace has been so incredibly supportive over this last month. Keeping my father in your thoughts and prayers, expressing your sympathy in cards and simple words, asking me how s he doing all of this has meant so much to me. I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you so much; it means more than you will ever know. It has also made me think about how this is the part of church I wish more people could see. This is what is so amazing about being a part of a community of faith. Certainly, you don t have to belong to a church in order to believe in God, but active participation in church, in Christian community, gives us support. Together, we support one another in our faith, and we support one another in our lives. Our church community tells us that the trials we face, we don t have to face alone. Of course, we know God is always with us, but we also have tangible hands holding us up. We have real words being spoken to us. We have prayers be offered on our behalf. This is what church truly is. This is what church is when we get it right. We are church together. We are a community of faith, brothers and sisters in Christ, ready to love and support one anther in faith and life.

2 Page 2 Thank you for being church to me so well over these last several weeks. I give thanks for the gift we have in our church family at Peace Lutheran and I feel truly blessed to be a part of it. May the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, guide your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Blessings, Pastor Karen Please plan to join us for our Christian Summer Day Camp! This is unique and exciting opportunity to help children explore God's love and strengthen their faith through the ministry of our dedicated volunteers and our very own LOMO camp program. This will take place on 11 to 15. We will gather with four young counselors hired by the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry program who will be a part of our church family for the week. They will come prepared to sing, lead Bible study, create fantastic crafts and help the children to worship our Savior. We will also work with St. Matthews Episcopal church and First Presbyterian church here in Ashland to share this ministry. This camp program will be from 9 am -3 pm for school age children and we will also be offering a special preschool program for our little ones from 9-11:30 am. We ask for your prayers as we aim to serve children of all backgrounds. Of course, we will need volunteers and donations to help this wonderful ministry be most effective. Please look for announcements in church and sign up sheets and registration forms (green sheets) in the narthex. Seek out Lisa Blackley if you have further questions.

3 From 19th to 24th Pastor Karen will lead four of our youth for a Mission Trip to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We will be traveling and staying with youth from Pastor Randy's church in Brecksville. The Mission work is organized by a group called Youth Works. So for the week, our group will be doing things like ministering to struggling families and community members by spending time with children at a local summer camp, visiting residents at local nursing homes, assisting the elderly with home repair projects, helping paint homes in the community, and/or working in a community garden. Please keep our youth in your thoughts and prayers over these next few weeks as they seek to live out their faith in Christian service.

She will introduce our summer series, "The Heart of the Matter-- Conflict, Forgiveness and Reconciliation" with the topic, "treasure in Clay Jars".. You are welcome to join us for study and fellowship. W O M E N S C I R C L E S DORCAS CIRCLE Dorcas Circle meets the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each month in The Fellowship Hall at 1:00 p.m. In we will meet on the 8th & 22nd as we continue our project of making quilts for their distribution each fall by Lutheran World Relief. We are always glad to receive flat sheets to help make up one of the 3 layers of each quilt that we knot together to make the finished quilt. All are welcome to help us with this endeavor to aid the many people displaced by wars & disasters.

6 H E A L T H C A B I N E T This is the time of the year where we all enjoy the outdoors. Taking walks and soaking up some sun.but a few reminders from your Health Cabinet. Flip-Flops are best left for the beach or pools. Flip-flops or flat sandals can do harm when worn for long periods of time or in inappropriate situations. The flat foot, or flexible flat foot, needs some support in the arch to prevent overuse and strain of the arch ligament and tendons. Look for sandals that have an arch and heel support, soft toe thong, and shock-absorbing materials. Reapply Sunscreen at least every 2 Hrs. Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, provides numerous health benefits, including maintaining healthy bones and teeth, supporting the immune system, regulating insulin levels, and supporting lung function and cardiovascular health. For all these benefits we still need to protect ourselves from the sun s more harmful rays-ultraviolet B (UVB) and ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation. The strongest sunscreens labeled Broad Spectrum, protect against both UVB and UVA rays which are linked to skin cancer, premature skins aging, and sunburn. The AAD recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is water resistant and has an SPF of 30 or higher. Shield your eyes from the sun. Too much sunlight and exposure to harmful ultra violet (UV) can lead to the development of cataracts, macular degeneration or growths on the eye. Have a fun and Safe Summer! We are here to help those families and kids keep their pantries filled! Thanks for helping us to help those in need!
