2 FroiD tte Pastor July Chat v To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which Is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace. The writer of Eccleslastes reminds us of all the different times of life. Recently we've gone through the times of death with the passing of many good and faithful members---a time to mourn. The writer also reminds us there will be time to heal, to build up, to laugh, to even dance. That's the power of the Resurrection! In my career as a chaplain, I've had to attend the passing of countless people and deliver more death notifications thank I can remember.

3 The one constant thing however, were those families who had a community of faith from which to draw. I saw those families cope and heal much better than those who had no congregation, no faith from which to draw support. To this day I can never understand how folks deal with such loss. And so we will miss our members deeply, we also can draw comfort knowing they are with Christ and the Father with all the faithfully departed. Please keep ALL who have gone home and their families In prayer! Pastor Gary Dog Days of Summer! When I tell our friends and family up north that we are now In our "winter" they go, "What?" But when I explain that when It's -20 below, you don't spend a lot of time outside and go from your warm house to a warm (hopefully) car. In Texas it's the opposite right now, we go from our (hopefully) cooler houses to our AC cars and after noon, not a lot Is going on outside! With that thought, we have many parishioners who don't handle the heat as well as others. Keep an eye out that we know how they are dolngi Transitional Pastor's Report. I spoke with Pastor Charles Predrlckson who Is now the lead person with congregations In mission. Those congregations who are working together to share the costs of pastor, perhaps secretary or organist etc. I'm going to ask Pastor Charles to attend an upcoming council meeting to brief our council on what the process Is all about etc. for us to begin the process of perhaps sharing a pastor down the road. More to come. Confirmation Camp Confirmation Camp will start July 29, through June 3'^^! It will be a great time for our conflrmands as the focus is on Prayerl Keep our youth In prayer that they have not only a great time with activities at camp, but are blessed spiritually as well. Confirmation will resume on Sunday, September 9"" at 10:00 am (note time change) This year we will focus on the New Testament, the Catechism and Lutheran doctrine. 3

7 ^jaazalg,i948-3ukal6, '2018 David Charles Gerhart, born David Charles Gerhart, born March 16, 1948, died June 17, 2018 the age of 70 years old. He was baptized May 16, 1948 and confirmed April 15, David grew up on the family's dairy farm In Bexar County on Judson Road. When he was just too young to start helping, he would sit on the bench In the dairy barn while his parents milked the cows singing "Billy Boy". After graduating from McArthur ('66) he became a full time dairyman & part time student. He attended day and night classes at S.A.C. He earned his Associate In Science Degree in He continued his studies at U.T.S.A. until the family moved to New Berlin in He was only a few hours short of obtaining a Bachelor's Degree. In the late 1970's he also obtained his real estate license. He was a faithful 4* generation life member of Beitel. David continued the dairy farm operations with his mother after the family moved to New Berlin and his father died In David was preceded In death by his father, Calvin H. Gerhart and brother, Calvin H. Gerhart, Jr. He Is survived by his mother. Marietta FInck Gerhart; brothers, Donald and wife Barbara, Douglas; sister, Grace Kunde and husband Wyatt; nephews, Jonathan Gerhart, Wyatt Kunde and wife Monica; niece Scarlett Kunde. Services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Beitel Memorial Lutheran, 2515 Austin Hwy, SAT. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Family requests donations be made to Beitel Memorial Lutheran Church. 10

8 9 et/umy Helen Marie Kethan, age 86, of San Antonio, TX, passed from this life on Sunday, June 17, Helen was born in Damon, Texas on November 5, 1931 to the Reverend Richard and Myrtle Weber. Helen graduated from Texas Lutheran College in Her first teaching job was in Ganado, where she taught biology and P.E. She was also the girls high school basketball coachit's believed this is where she developed her love of basketball. Helen was a huge San Antonio Spurs fan! Helen began teaching in San Antonio in 1959, where she was employed for over 30 years by the Northeast Independent School District. Helen retired in To keep busy she enjoyed painting, gardening, and volunteering with the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. Helen was happiest when she was involved with her church. She enjoyed bible studies, writing articles for the Church Chat, delivering Meals on Wheels, crocheting prayer shawls, tacking quilts for Lutheran World Relief, cooking meals for the Young at Heart group, and being involved with the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She authored "The History of Beitel Lutheran: 100 Years," which documented the life of her beloved church. Helen also loved to travel. She became involved with the San Antonio chapter of Friendship Force, traveling to Germany, Costa Rica, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Peru, Japan, and Canada. Finally, Helen was a loving grandma who delighted in her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Helen is survived by her sister, Betty Ganske, of 11
