If you have the time, please have a look at what is happening to our car-park gardens at the moment. Michael our part-time gardener has done a wonderful job cutting back, getting rid of and highlighting our plants, flowers and shrubs. I give my thanks to Peter Mundell and Shirley Lewis for their close supervision and support of this project. If you have plants/shrubs which may be appropriate to our area, please talk to Peter Mundell. Funeral Choices This is not the most useful sub-title for a newsletter I know, however, you may recall that at the two services three weeks ago I emphasized a need for us to have information regarding funeral choices included with our personal papers. I spoke at length to a funeral director who has a close association with our church and he has come up with a comprehensive information sheet. I have included that sheet in this newsletter. You are not obliged in any way to use the funeral director s organisation however I think the sheet has all the information needed to help make this process less traumatic for the whanau. Synod and Motion 29 At the same services I gave a summary of the Synod of the Auckland Diocese which met on the 7 9 September I would like to take the opportunity to once again put the recommendations of the Working Group (WG) that was tasked with considering Motion 29 by General Synod. In Motion 29, the WG had a very specific task, of considering what arrangements and safeguards could be put in place to hold us together within the same ecclesial family so that no one was forced to compromise sincerely held beliefs. Or put another way, consider possible structural arrangements within our Three-Tikanga-Church to safeguard both theological convictions concerning the blessing of same gender relationships. The WG report recommends: No alteration to the formularies of this church Enabling amorangi and dioceses to safeguard theological convictions within their episcopal units Amendment of the declarations of adherence and submission to the authority of general synod Allow amorangi and diocesan bishops to authorise individual clergy within their ministry units to conduct services blessing same gender relationships Providing immunity from complaint for bishops and clergy for exercising their discretion on whether or not to authorise or conduct services of same gender blessings Recognising Orders of Consecrated Life to allow for those with clear theological convictions to have those convictions respected and protected. 3 3 October 2017 PASTORAL CARE REPORT The past month had a solemn start with the Funeral of dear Pat Beaumont. In their grief we continue to uphold prayerfully her sister, Daphne Rickman, and family. September otherwise was mainly routine hospital and home visiting, communions, plus services at Northbridge and Shoal Bay Villa. Every Wednesday is the weekly Prayer time. The first bracket of seven weeks Evening Prayer at 2pm finished on 20 th and the second bracket of seven weeks Morning Devotion at 10am started on the 27 th. On Sunday 17 th I also served as Locum Priest. For its meeting on 10 th September I reported to Vestry on the work I have been doing to update the Parish Roll. Please see the notice about that under a separate heading. Vivienne Hill (The Reverend) EVENING WOMEN S FELLOWSHIP PARISH ROLL The document I was given back in March was well out of date. I spent time at Glenfield Library using the Electoral Rolls to match names and addresses. I have cross referenced roll names with the list of Fellowship Group Members, Rosters, those to whom the Newsletter is ed, and visited the Sunday School to check I had a record of the children. The telephone directory has been useful. So too was advice from the People s Warden, Pru Giles. My computer skills are limited so the Roll s current format is a simple Microsoft Word document which can be easily amended. The Roll applies exclusively within the Parish and is not used for any other purpose. It determines who can speak and vote at the AGM. It is a quick reference of contact details. Under the Privacy Act the only people on the Roll should be those who have indicated they choose to be included. The qualifying age is 16. There is no coat tailing as in Mr. and Mrs. Each person must be listed individually. From the first Sunday in October up to Christmas a copy will be in the foyer each Sunday. Please check your details, correct where necessary, add if possible a mobile phone number. Each week I will collect the document, make the noted amendments, then tick as checked. Then an up to date copy will be printed for the following Sunday. In the New Year it will be ready for one of the administrative staff to format more appropriately. Our Evening Women s Fellowship meet on Tuesday 10 th October in the St Jude s room for our monthly meeting. This time we are to each bring something of special meaning to each of us and we will have a show and tell night. It is not compulsory to bring something just come for the fellowship anyway. Look forward to seeing you there!

4 4 October 2017 MEN S SUPPERS IN SEPTEMBER The first gathering will be on Wednesday 11 th October, at Peter White s home, 14 Vincent Road, Northcote Point. The second gathering is on Wednesday 25 th October, also at Peter White s home. We meet at 7.30pm and you can be on your way home by about 9pm. Depends whether you stay and chat longer over supper! If you haven t been to our Men s Suppers, come along for a good time. We catch up. We tell stories. We chat about life, probably about elections this week. We read a Bible passage. And we finish off with suppers (just bring a plate of shareable supper). Any questions or queries, phone Peter on Come and join us for a Men-Only night out! So whether you are a family of one, two or more, this weekend is an opportunity to gather with others and actively experience intergenerational doing and belonging, in the context of the theme Adventure and start your 2018 adventure with God!
