June 2018, marks four-months in which I was called to be the Senior Pastor here at Henson Valley Christian Church and we will solidify this relationship of pastor and people at the Service of Installation on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00pm at my home church, Michigan Park Christian Church, Washington, DC. As I reflect on the combined history of the former Ninth Street Christian Church and the Henson Valley Christian Church it totals over 121 years of ministry; 12 pastors; numerous ministers, and the countless number of members over the years, I must admit that I have had my moments of trepidation stepping into this position as the ministry leader. However, before insecurity and doubt could take root, I have been guided by Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (ASV) For everything there is a season, and a time for every [a]purpose under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. 1
2 We are in season of transformation, growth and development. As long as we surrender and turn our will over to God, transformation will happen in a profound way. Beal Vontrell T. Beal Cynthia Joynes Alexis Holland Nominated to Capital Area New Visioning Team Carolyn Holland The Christian Church Capital Area Regional Board has created a New Visioning Team. The purpose of this Team will be to look at the Christian Church Capital Area s structure and practice for Regional ministry (in light of current realities and emerging trends) and make recommendations to ensure the future faithfulness, effectiveness, relevance, and sustainability of our ministry as a Region. Congratulations to Henson Valley Christian Church s Alexis Holland for being nominated to serve as a member of this New Visioning Team. Punch & Paint Carolyn Holland Henson Valley Christian Church will be hosting a Punch and Paint for children ages This event will be held on June 29, 2018 from 6 pm - 8:30 pm. This is an opportunity for children to gather with friends and to meet new friends. Children will be guided in painting a picture on canvas. The painting of a frog has been chosen for this event. Punch will be served to our guest free of charge. Hot dogs, hamburgers and chips will be available for purchase during the break period. Student Recognition Alexis Holland received an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Fortis College and she made the Dean s List. Way to go Alexis!! Iana Derricks and Joshua Griffin will be advancing to Suitland High School in the Fall. Isaiah Norman made the Honor Roll! Please take a moment to congratulate our students for their achievements. Did you know that June 21 is the first day of Summer? Congregational Care Members who are sick and shut-in are also listed on the weekly prayer list. Please continue to pray for them.
