2 Mysterious Kingdom Theme Our theme verse this year is Mark 4:11: The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you, but to those outside, everything comes in parables. In this passage, Jesus is sharing with his disciples the thought behind why he was using parables to teach the crowds. In essence, he was teaching the people about the true nature of the kingdom of God by using stories and illustrations. Only those who were seeking truth would seek the spiritual answers beyond the surface meaning of the stories. The disciples were asking Jesus to explain the parables to them so that they might understand the coming Kingdom of God. So Jesus explains the spiritual meaning to them. Understanding the parables of Jesus will allow our students to begin to make sense of this Mysterious Kingdom described in the parables. Here is how it will break down: Worship Session 1: The Desirability of Being Part of the Kingdom Worship Session 2: Faithfully Serving the Kingdom Today Worship Session 3: The Inauguration of the Kingdom of God in the Future Each Worship session will focus on a parable of Jesus. We are fortunate to have Doug Johnson and Justin Holcomb leading our time of worship this weekend. Doug is a worship leader in Missouri who also travels and leads worship for various churches and groups. Justin is the youth pastor at FBC Houston and is an excellent communicator, but more importantly loves Jesus and students. We also have a host of young people who are coming to help our students process what God is teaching them over the weekend. These leaders will stay in the homes with our students and they will help guide students to reflect on the worship services and messages. They will also teach a Saturday morning Bible study focused on the parable of the Four Soils. These small group leaders have also been challenged to spend one-on-one time with each student during the weekend to talk about their salvation and other issues of faith. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of serving your students this weekend! Please pray for our leaders and for our students. Our goal is that every student will leave this weekend understanding truth about the kingdom of God and their standing in the Kingdom.

7 Student Guidelines 1. Act right! You will be representing your family, Christ and our church. 2. Host Homes: The host will explain host home rules including where they may eat, which restrooms are to be used and by whom, which areas are off limits, pet issues, as well as any other special guidelines. You are a guest in the home of your Host Family. Please be respectful to their requests. 3. Schedule: Be where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there, doing what you are supposed to be doing. You will need to participate in each session, all meals, and activities. 4. Time Away Cards: You will not be allowed to use your car once you arrive at your Host Home until Sunday morning, when you can drive yourself to church at the same time as everyone else. You may not leave the home of your Host Family at any other time unless you have arranged this in advanced by completing a Time Away Card signed by your parent or legal guardian & Host Home leader. 5. Cell Phone: Put your cell phone away. We are asking everyone to use a paper copy of the Bible this weekend. We will not allow cell phones or tablets to be out during small group discussions or our worship services. Also, cell phones will be taken up at Lights Out and will not be made available until breakfast except in case of emergency during the night. 6. Sleep: Sleep is essential! Please do your best to get some rest. 7. Basics: Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, profanity, pornography, theft, or bullying in any form is strictly prohibited! Also, Public Displays of Affection, curfew violations, and unwillingness to obey rules will result in students being removed from the weekend. 8. Dress appropriately for the weekend! If you are not sure what this means, any leader can tell you. This means no short skirts, no short shirts, no revealing clothes, and modest Pajamas (Todd & Wesley will be visiting homes). If asked to change for any reasons, please do so immediately and without question or complaint! 9. Appreciation: There are many ways you can express your appreciation to your Host Family a card, a thank you, etc. These are good, but the best way is to be very thoughtful and helpful throughout the entire weekend! Please obey all house rules! 10. ABSOLUTELY no pranks or practical jokes as this could ruin the experience God intended for someone to have this weekend, no wrapping houses or sneaking out, no wrestling, and no rough housing.
