1 St Mary s School Warwick Newsletter 3 rd November 2016 Term 4 Week 5 The Feasts of All Saints and All Souls On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the Catholic church recognised and celebrated two liturgical events: The feasts of All Saints and All Souls. The tradition of celebrating the saints and martyrs has been marked by Christians ever since the 4 th century. Today, All Saints Day is a time to be thankful for all those Christians who have lived before us - the great teachers and prophets and those who have taught and inspired us to live lives inspired by Jesus and the love of God. All Souls Day is the day after All Saints Day and is a day for us to remember and pray for our loved ones and those close to us who have died. Important for next week Monday, 7 th November Assembly 2.00pm MacKillop Centre Friday, 11 th November Remembrance Day Liturgy 10.30am Led by Year 4 Dear Students, Parents and Carers, Today we formally met our 2017 Prep children and their parents and carers. We wholeheartedly welcome each and every one of them to the community of St Mary s Warwick and we hope and pray that their journey with us is filled with the love of God, the love of Jesus, a love for each other and a love of life. The reflection we shared in the gathering with the Prep 2017 parents and carers is below. It reminds us of the importance of both the family and school continually working together for the benefit of our precious gifts our children. Two Sculptors I dreamed I saw a studio And watched two sculptors there. The clay they used was a child s mind And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher the tools used Were books, music and art. The other: a parent, worked with a guiding hand, And a gentle, loving heart. Day after day, the teacher toiled with a touch That was careful, deft, and sure; While the parent laboured by the teacher s side And polished and smoothed it over. And when at last, their task was done, They were proud of what they had wrought. For the things they had moulded into the child Could neither be sold nor bought. And each agreed they would have failed If either had worded alone. For behind the parent stood the school And behind the teacher, the home. (Anonymous) Have a great week. 2 Spotlight on Staff Ms Kerry Norton In 1960 I was born in Warrnambool a coastal rural city in Victoria. To this day I am blessed with my Mum and my Dad, both being my two biggest supporters. I have two brothers and two sons. My eldest brother, his wife and their two sons live next to me at Stanthorpe. We both have 100 acre blocks they farm their land, whereas I do not and I just get to enjoy my bush block. It is a very spiritual place and I thank God for my being the custodian of this special peaceful block of land. When training to become a teacher, I did this at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) at Banyo a bayside suburb of Brisbane. What a fabulous place. Their theological department is one of the best. I love being a part of the St Mary s School community and look forward to every school day. RE NEWS Family Mass Sunday Please join us for the Parish's next Family Mass on 20 th November at the 8:30am Sunday Mass. This is a great community celebration with readings and songs chosen with children in mind. We are looking for families who would like to sing, share the readings, carry the offertory and welcomers. If you would like to do any of these jobs please contact Sharon Young on or at St Mary s School. A little reminder for Parents to contact the Parish Office regarding their Expression of Interest for 2017 Sacramental Preparation. ADMINISTRATION STAFFING FOR 2017 Many St Mary s community members would have noticed recent advertisements in the Warwick Daily News regarding 3 positions for school officers (2x Prep and 1x Library Assistant). We officially farewell Ms Karen Seaby, Mrs Peggy Johnson and Mrs Christine Rettke. These 3 special people have been long term employees of our school and have contributed greatly not only to the learning of our students but as disciples illuminating the love of God active in their lives. Mrs Rettke has retired from her position as Library Assistant; Mrs Peggy Johnson completed her Bachelor of Education in June, 2015 and successfully gained a position with Education Queensland. She is currently teaching in Arukun; Ms Seaby has relocated to the Sunshine Coast. I am sure you will join with all the members of our school and parish community in wishing them God s blessings in their new adventures. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
