1 (USPS # ) Published weekly except Christmas by St. Luke UMC 1104 Second Ave.; Columbus, GA Postmaster: Send address changes to St. Luke UMC P.O. Box 867; Columbus, GA Telephone (706) Fax (706) Ministry Center (706) Prayer Room (706) stluke@stlukeum.com Website: ` Volume 51 August 30, 2015 No. 35 Have you ever said, The Old Testament is just too confusing. I don t get its significance for me. There are too many people, strange events, and God seems very angry all the time. What s the big deal? I m a follower of Jesus. I don t need the Old Testament. Didn t Jesus abolish the Old Testament anyway? If so, then you are invited to join the Epic of Eden bible study. The Epic of Eden is a 12 week survey of the Old Testament that seeks to help bring clarity and order to the confusion, and to explain the importance of the Old Testament for Christians. This study s objective is to show us that the story of Abraham, Noah, Moses, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Ruth, Esther, and of many more is our story. Our Christian faith is firmly rooted in the people, lives, and stories of the men and women of the Old Testament. In other words, The Bible is the saga of Yahweh and Adam, the prodigal son and his ever gracious heavenly father; humanity in their rebellion and God in his grace. This narrative begins with Eden and does not conclude until the New Jerusalem is firmly in place. It is all one story. And if you are a believer, it is all your story. (Sandra Richter, Epic of Eden) If you would like information about the class or to register you can Brett Maddocks (bmaddocks@stlukeum.com) or call the church, EPIC OF EDEN SCHEDULE Sunday Nights 5:00-7:00 PM Discovery Classroom (222) I look forward to seeing you as we begin this epic journey together. Rev. Brett Maddocks bmaddocks@stlukeum.com

4 Music Box O, How I Love Jesus arr. Lloyd Larson There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth; it sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth. O, how I love Jesus, because He first loved me! It tells me of a Savior s love, who died to set me free; it tells me of His precious blood, the sinner s perfect plea. O, how I love Jesus, because He first loved me. It tells of One whose loving heart can feel my deepest woe, and who in each sorrow bears apart, that none can bear below. Sing it: O, how I love Jesus, because He first loved me. Jesus first loved me. WORSHIP IN SPANISH: 12:20 p.m. worship in Turner Chapel, The Rev.
