LUKE July is a month filled with many opportunities at St. Luke. First of all, Thank you to everyone who worked so faithfully to insure that our God and Country Service was a wonderful day of inspiration and fellowship. Because this special service fell on a first Sunday, we will celebrate services of Holy Communion at all services this Sunday, July 10. In addition to communion we will dedicate the prayer shawls and baby bonnets knitted by members of our Hands for God at the 10:55 service. Hands for God was begun by the Rev. Sandra Henry during her ministry at St. Luke. It meets on every other Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Church Parlor (main building) to knit and crochet prayer shawls and baby bonnets. The bonnets are delivered to hospital nurseries. The prayer shawls are shared with homebound members or those who are suffering illness. Accompanying the shawl is a card that says, This shawl has passed through our praying hands and been blessed by our loving hearts. This is our blessing for you: May you who receive this shawl be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love! July we celebrate St. Luke Vacation Bible School. You will find more information about this special week inside this newsletter. July The 2016 Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference will meet July at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center in Lake Junaluska, NC. This year, the Southeastern Jurisdiction will elect five new bishops. Any United Methodist ordained elder may be elected a bishop by any jurisdictional conference. Each jurisdiction establishes the percentage of votes needed for election. Voting by ballot continues until someone receives the required number of votes. With the retirement of Bishop James R. King, Jr., the South Georgia Annual Conference will be assigned a new episcopal leader effective September 1. The announcement of the new episcopal leader will be made at Jurisdictional Conference. Please be in prayer for the work of this conference. July 24, yes that is a Sunday, is the St. Luke Blood Drive through the American Red Cross. HOLY COMMUNION: All persons who confess Christ as their Savior, regardless of age or denomination, are invited to share in the Sacrament of Holy Communion today, July 10. Come forward at the indication of the ushers and stand or kneel in prayer at the chancel rail for as long as you like, then cup your hands to indicate your readiness to receive the Sacrament. After you have partaken of the cup, you may remain in prayer or return to your seat. Those who wish to receive Holy Communion in their seats may so indicate to the usher. The offering plates at the heads of the side aisle are to receive gifts for the Samaritan Fund, our Outreach Ministry. Please give generously as God gives you the ability. Permit ST. With the aim of helping members get to know one another better, enhancing our sense of fellowship and our sense of community, St. Luke will be producing a new congregational directory with the help of Lifetouch Photography. More details will be available each week, but for now mark your calendar for the weeks of photography: Wednesday, August 17-Sunday, August 21 and Wednesday, August 24-Sunday, August 28 We will begin making appointments for photography sessions on Sunday, July 24! AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE Recently, our member Mary Bass had a family crisis. With her permission, we share that her grandson Brandon had a life-threatening illness which he survived thanks to skilled surgeons and 14 units of blood. The blood was not donated specifically for Brandon, but was given by 14 anonymous saints who give regularly to the American Red Cross. When you give blood, you are saving a life. St. Luke host its first Sunday Blood Drive on July 24, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Ministry Center Gym. Go to org and use the sponsor code stlumc to sign up today. HOW DO I JOIN THE CHURCH? You may become a part of the St. Luke family of God in one of the following ways: 1. If you have never joined a church before, you may become a member by profession of faith in Jesus Christ and by being baptized. If you have already been baptized (as a child or as an adult) in a Christian Church, your baptism is recognized by St. Luke United Methodist Church. You will be asked to uphold St. Luke church with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. 2. If you are a member of another United Methodist Church or another Christian denomination, indicate to one of the pastors that this is your desire. St. Luke will then transfer your membership. 3. If you have any questions about faith in Christ, about United Methodism in general or St. Luke in particular, please ask one of the pastors!
