1 August 2, 2015 Blessed Sacrament C a t h o l i c C h u r c h August From the Pastor The Eighteenth in Ordinary Time Dearest Parishioners, Saint Paul gives a unique admonition this day (Ephesians 4:17) as he calls us not to live as pagans do, their minds empty. Such a challenge carries with it an assumption that the human person may do many things to curb the hungers (body, mind or spirit) that are present in our lives. One must recognize such hungers first. His first point is that our minds are to be filled with the teaching and knowledge of Christ that we may be new persons created in God s image. With bellies satisfied with loaves and fish (John 6: 24-35), and with leftovers enough to fill 12 baskets, Jesus begins the second part of the miracle, the expansion of the mind and heart, that those who have been fed with heavenly food, might also be filled with heavenly knowledge of Him who is the Bread of Life. The Eucharist fills our bodies, our minds and our hearts: Lord, give to our hearts the light of faith and the fire of love, that we may worship in spirit and in truth our God and Lord, present in this Sacrament. Congratulations to Bob Menner who was received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church and received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion at the 8:00am Mass today! May he, his wife Deborah, and their entire family be filled with every gift of the Holy Spirit! May the week ahead be filled with countless graces and blessings! 1

4 The Eighteenth in Ordinary Time Faith Formation Students with Special Needs Blessed Sacrament is pleased to announce a Faith Formation class designed specifically for students with significant cognitive disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism. Class size will be small and intended for verbal and non-verbal students who need extra visual and verbal supports for learning. The instructor, Vilmary Tautiva is a licensed Florida Exceptional student educator with an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and a Master of Education in Special Education. Mrs. Tautiva currently teaches at a special day school in Lake County for students with severe disabilities. Please her at vtautiva@gmail. com or call her at (407) with any specific inquiries. Faith Formation Registration Now Open Outreach Newborn Baby Garments Do you knit or crochet? New mothers and their babies at the Mother s Center in Kambaala gratefully received the baby bonnets, booties and blankets that were donated in the past by parishioners of Blessed Sacrament. If you are gifted with the ability to knit or crochet, consider making some to send back with Fr. Ponce. If you don t knit or crochet, purchased readymade receiving blankets, booties and caps are also greatly appreciated. Bring your finished or purchased items to Fr. Ponce, or drop them off at the parish office. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that parents receive the responsibility of evangelizing their children and calls them the First Heralds of the faith (2225). Our goal is to provide a quality Faith Formation program that will give you the tools and resources to assist in sharing your faith with your children. 6 The Eighteenth in Ordinary Time Around the Diocese Register for Faith Formation Day 2015 Disciples in Action: Family. Parish. Faith. The 2015 Faith Formation Day will be held September 19, 2015 at Bishop Moore Catholic High School (3901 Edgewater Dr. in Orlando). This annual diocesan catechetical/ministry conference brings together catechists and ministry volunteers to enkindle deeper faith and renew their ministry. Over 100 workshops are offered in several languages covering topics including: the family, Sacraments, lectio divina, RCIA, engaging youth, the Mass, and many more. Fr. Alfonso Cely will offer a bilingual keynote address on this year s theme: Disciples in Action: Family. Parish. Faith. Save the Date: Harvest Ball of Bishop Grady Villas, October 17 Join Bishop Noonan, the Board of Directors, staff and residents of Bishop Grady Villas in St. Cloud for the annual Harvest Ball, benefiting Bishop Grady Villas. The event is a celebration of thanksgiving for the residents of Bishop Grady Villas, an assisted living facility that supports persons with disabilities and helps them use their God-given gifts to achieve greater independence, physical and emotional well-being, and spiritual growth. The evening includes silent and live auctions, dinner, award presentations, dancing and entertainment. Tickets for individual seats begin at $150. All sponsorship inquiries may be made by contacting Kevin Johnson, Charitable dollars raised during the Harvest Ball will be used for the Residents Scholarship Fund. Fr. Richard Walsh will be honored with the Lifetime Legacy Award and the St. Cloud Police Department will receive the Community Service Award during the annual Harvest Ball.
