Second Collection this weekend is for the Seminarians/Vocations Fund. Stewardship Corner In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers, but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the tenants. What sort of stewards are we? Leave a Legacy The gifts God has given you can go on doing good after your lifetime. You still have time to register your children, grades K- 8. Classes are held at St. Bernard Elementary School, 115 Henderson Street, 8:15-9:30 am. All children welcome, regardless of previous religious background. For more information, , or Italian Catholic Federation's Scholarship Fund Spaghetti Dinner will be Saturday, October 8th, at 5:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Menu includes: Spaghetti (with meat sauce or vegetarian), bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Cost is $8.00 for adults. $ 5 for students. Children under 6 are free. All proceeds benefit the ICF Scholarship Fund. Please come help support our ICF and the young people in our community. Youth Group Meeting The Youth Group will meet on Sunday, Oct. 2nd from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Youth Building at Sacred Heart Church. Youth in 6th grade and up are welcome to attend. Wednesday Night Study Sessions Fr. Eric Freed's popular seminars are every Wednesday except the last Wednesday of the month. They will be held at the Newman Center just up the hill from Health Sport in Arcata at 700 Union St at 7:30 pm. This session will be on the letters of St. Paul. Fr. Basic Catechist/Adult Learning Workshop There will be a series of workshops offered through the Diocesan Office & St. Bernard Church. The topic, Person of Catechist will be presented on Thursday, 7:00 pm, October 6, 2011 at St. Bernard Church, 615 H St., Hall, Eureka Sr. Olive Murphy, RSM, Diocesan Director of Religious Education, will facilitate the evening. Our next date is Oct. 13 th and the topic is I Believe/We Believe. A donation of $15.00/person is requested to cover materials. 4 THE TEACHING OF CHRIST An exploration of Jesus and the Church St. Bernard parish is pleased to announce a new adult faith formation program. The video series Exploring the Teaching of Christ will be airing in the Pinochi room on selected Sunday mornings beginning Sunday, October 16 th. This excellent teaching program was developed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl when he served as Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The series is particularly suited for those faithful, practicing Catholics who have never been formally confirmed and would like to receive the sacrament of confirmation at Easter with those joining the church through our RCIA program. It is open to all who wish to deepen their understanding of our faith. Deacon Frank Weber will be leading the series. Dates: October 16 & 30 November 13 & 20 December 18 January 8, 15, 22, & 29 February 12, 19, & 26 March 11, 18, & 25 Time: 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. Each Sunday will include two teaching sessions. Video will start promptly at 8:30 with time reserved for questions and discussion. Cardinal Donald Wuerl is the Archbishop of Washington and was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. He is known nationally for his catechetical and teaching ministry and for his efforts on behalf of Catholic education. He serves on numerous national and international bodies and is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, chancellor of The Catholic University of America and chairman of the board of the Pope John Paul II Cultural Foundation and The Papal Foundation. He is chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Doctrine and a member of the USCCB Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including the best-selling catechisms, The Teaching of Christ and The Catholic Way. His book, The Mass, was published in January 2011 and his most recent work, The Gift of Blessed John Paul II, was published in April. See session detail on reverse side.
