Pentecost, the longest season of the church year, running from May to November, is characterized by the color of green standing for growth. Behind our altar, our quilt represents all the church seasons. Pentecost is symbolized not only by the green color in the quilt but also by the green leafy vine running across the bottom. This summer we will approach the sermon messages from the standpoint of Growing From Seed to Harvest; growth from seed to root to sprout to branch to flower and harvest of fruit, vegetable, grain or nut. We will think about our own growth as characterized by this movement, thinking about it as a whole process. Where are we in the process of spiritual growth(?) is the question before us. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. Proverbs 3:18 This summer let us sink our roots deep and move toward the Son from whom life flows. Mission Statement: To discover and respond to our call TO KNOW JESUS TO FOLLOW JESUS TO SERVE JESUS in unique ministries.

3 June 9-11 Living Active Word Conference (for all ages): Rev. Dr. Gemechis Buba (North American Lutheran Church Assistant to the Bishop for Mission & worldwide evangelist) will return to Hope. Rev. Buba will preach on Sunday AM, Sunday PM and Monday PM. New Wine will present the musical, Kingdom Tales on Tuesday PM, June 11. New Wine is made up of 45 Christian youth on tour from Minnesota. The conference will combine dynamic worship, evangelical preaching, prayer ministry and Vacation Bible School for children. Begin praying for the conference and inviting others from near and far any church or without a church. To help June 9-11 with Rev. Gemechis or New Wine visit, contact Lezlie Pender ( ) or with children's Vacation Bible School, contact Stephanie Rodriguez ( ) or Carrie Hamilton ( ). We will need donations ($ and supplies) and various workers. VBS is in need of supplies. Please check the sign up sheet located on the VBS table by the bulletin boards. Thank you for all of your help. 3
4 Adult Sunday School This summer s Sunday School theme will dig in deeper with the our Summer s Preaching theme: Growing From Seed to Harvest. Thus, each week we will look at each facet of growth as the scriptures uses metaphors of seed, root, leaf, fruit, and harvest. We will ask ourselves the question, Where am at in my spiritual growth? Speaking of Wisdom and Understanding Solomon wrote, She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. 5 May Semi-annual Meeting Summary At May s semi-annual meeting four people were elected to the council: Steve Hawkins as president elect, Raymond Luster, Lezlie Pender and Tammy Hill each for at-large members of council. Carolee Juergens, Candy Moltz and Barbra York were elected to the nominating committee. Secondly, the congregation elected to enter into a contract for materials and labor for our building repair. $25,000 is to be paid in 1/3 increments to Lone Star Steel owned by Brad Standlee. (see contract summary below) The council pledged to check out a loose-end regarding a warrantee. Secondly we would seek a bid on duct-work insulation in the old portion of the building. This second item is separate from the proposed contract. Thirdly, the congregation voted to adjust the budget to apply $4,000 to a new projector system in the sanctuary, $3,000 to the coming Youth Mission Trip and or other Youth expenses, and a tithe of our roof contract of $2,500 to be given to the mission of Dr. Gemechis Buba s East Africa and Middle East T.V. ministry. Treasurer Kathy Still stated that if this money came from our present $34,000 sum indicated in the May bulletin (this does not include any of the money we received from our insurance settlement) we would presently still have $24,500 available for operating expenses (which is a comfortable amount for operating expenses.) Pastor Joel Contract Summary: remove existing r-panel roof and replace with brown/mansard/burnished slate color r-panel sheets install 6 foot wide solar guard insulation white install new peak sheets install wall sheets above sanctuary and trim prob light stone color but color of your choice build up roof with steel at tower location to create a new valley install rope seal between sheets tek screws and lap screws install 50 feet of gutter between buildings and install expanded metal as leaf protector above gutter to prevent rainwater stoppage keep water tight during construction keep secured from wind during construction we will stack removed roofing at a location of your choice if you would want the scrap steel or remove if you desire we work at our own pace and will schedule work around any services you have planned 5

You may sponsor more than one week or give a gift of $50 or $100 to support one broadcast. You may also give a larger honorary gift towards the total need of $20,600 which supports several broadcasts that are streamed not only to Ethiopia, but all over Africa and are even available all over the world.
