2 THE 15 TH BIENNIAL SELC DISTRICT LWML CONVENTION Mind, Body, Spirit-Fit to Witness, 2 Corinthians 5:20 MAY 20-22, 2016 OFFICIAL INVITATION The Executive Board of the SELC District LWML cordially extends to you this invitation to attend the 15 th Biennial LWML Convention of our SELC District. The convention will be held at Family of Christ Lutheran Church-Tampa, Florida on Friday, May 20, 2016 through Sunday, May 22, On Friday afternoon, registration will begin at 3:30 p.m., and supper will start at 5:00 p.m. The Opening Worship Service will be held on Friday evening. Saturday will be a full day. Our speakers will focus on our Convention Theme: Mind, Body, Spirit- Fit to Witness based on 2 Corinthians 5:20. We will be learning about the latest research on wellness and the brain, and about Christ in the Old Testament. These presentations should help sharpen up our abilities so we are well prepared physically, mentally and spiritually to be ambassadors for Christ. Our group will hear what is happening on the national level of LWML from Bunnie Koelsch, Chairman of the Hope Committee. There will be 2 Mission Speakers and the Convention Photo will be taken. The Convention Business Session will feature a report on our Mission Grants, and delegates will vote for our new Mission Grants. That evening we will relax and socialize at our barbeque dinner at the church prepared by Pastor Haara. Sunday will start bright and early with our Mite Walk-a-Thon on the nature trail on the church property. We will do additional Convention business, including voting for new Officers. After Bible Study, we will join with the parishioners of Family of Christ in the Worship Service with Holy Communion. Our Gifts from the Heart will be for The Spring Tampa Bay, a women and children s shelter. Needed items include: twin size sheets and pillow cases, wash cloths and towels, onesies, socks, bibs, clothes for young children, and children s books, as well as Walmart and Target gift cards. There will also be an offering for Lutheran Haven. All these items will be dedicated at the Sunday Worship Service. There is a lot to see in the Tampa area before or after the Convention. Busch Gardens is only about 15 minutes from the church. St. Petersburg Beach and Clearwater have beautiful white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Tarpon Springs, west of the church, is a Greek community with sponge diving tours. The Tampa Electric Manatee Visitors Center is 45 minutes away on I75 South, and there are manatee tours on the Crystal River about one hour away. Cockroach State Park is located near Ruskin, an area of mangroves and swamplands. The American League Baseball team, the Tampa Bay Rays, plays in St. Petersburg. 8 MITE WALK-A-THON PLEDGE SHEET AT THE SELC LWML 15 TH BIENNIAL DISTRICT CONVENTION We are having a Mite Walk-a-Thon at our SELC LWML 15 th Biennial District Convention at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Tampa, Florida. As an LWMLer, you are encouraged to find sponsors for your walk in support of our Mission Grants. Your sponsors are encouraged to support you in your walk, rather than in the distance that you walk. Your special Mite Walk-a-Thon offering will be presented and dedicated at this convention. Don t forget your walking shoes! Please wear any LWML tee shirt of your choice. No tee shirts will be given out at the walk. Rather, all proceeds will go toward mites. The walk will take place on the church property-there is a one-half mile nature trail which is cleared, level and easily accessible.
