Pope Francis said that Serving at the altar, is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them. " Requirements for Altar Servers Candidates, which is open to all, is as follows: A strong desire to serve at the Altar of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Be an active member of the parish community. Have already made their First Holy Communion. If you would like to be an Altar Server please get your mom/dad to speak to Fr. AUDIA WE ARE WITNESSES TO THE RISEN LORD JESUS IS MADE KNOWN IN THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD: This passage follows Christ s encounter with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They returned to Jerusalem and reported to the other disciples what they had seen in the Breaking of the Bread the name the early Church gave to the Eucharist celebration. Luke was not simply recording an apparition of the Risen Lord, he was also teaching that this same Lord is present in the Eucharist. Jesus loves us, as he revealed so clearly on Calvary. He wants to forgive us our sins and give us eternal life. Not satisfied with the gift of himself on Calvary, he desires to continue giving himself to us and to remain with us always. The Eucharist is a sign of his tremendous love. It is the source and summit of our spiritual life. It is a mystery that we need to meditate upon daily and to experience as frequently as possible in our lives. CONVERSATION WITH CHRIST: Lord, I place my worries in your hands. Help me to keep trusting in your providence. Be with me today and help me to live what I believe. I know you are with me, but I have a hard time sharing my faith with others. Give me the courage I need to speak of you and your love. I know that they need you; give me the prudence to know what to do and what to say. RESOLUTION: Today I will transmit love for Christ in the Eucharist to someone who is close to me. 5 Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary April 3, 2018 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Each year Christians throughout the world remember the great mysteries of our salvation throughout this week: Christ s triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the institution of the Eucharist, ministerial Priesthood, and the new command of loving service on Holy Thursday, the Father s mercy revealed in Christ who is crucified on Good Friday, and the faith and belief in His resurrection. The message of Easter of the resurrection of Jesus takes us beyond the Cross to the joy and hope that comes from knowing the Risen Lord. It was Christ risen that allowed his disciples to fully know that God exists, that there is a future of hope for every human being and that our cry for unending life is indeed answered in Him. This is the real message of Easter! The Way of the Cross through the streets of Calgary brings to life the passion of Jesus. The carrying of the cross brings the experience of the disabled, the unemployed and working poor, homeless, migrants and refugees, victims of war, the unborn and the elderly into the light of Christ s sacrificial love. It is this sacrificial love that restores dignity for those who have been exiled from their homes, transforming strangers into neighbours, and calling us to respond with compassion and care to those who are suffering and vulnerable. The empty tomb becomes the true sign of the Easter faith which caused the disciples not to proclaim the tragedy of Jesus death but rather the sharing of his resurrection, the promise of eternal life with joy and confidence through the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Lord appeared to His Disciples after His Resurrection, and greeted them, saying: Peace be to you. Many times in Sacred Scripture, Our Blessed Lord offers his peace. And so it is in the lives of each of us, and will be until the end of time, Our Lord Jesus stands in our midst and says, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (JOHN 14:27). Easter calls us to promote with renewed zeal the witness of our faith by the living testimony of our lives. To seek this peace through respectful and joyful hearts. It calls us to move beyond the tomb of human emptiness with conviction by sharing the good news of the Resurrection. To courageously follow Jesus Christ, the risen one, and to boldly proclaim that out of darkness and suffering comes the promise of new life. This Easter, let us rise up with Christ to meet the world and our culture with a renewed conviction to authentically live our faith in serving our brothers and sisters in ways that will bring them hope and joy. I wish all of you a Blessed Easter season, praying that God s grace through his resurrection will always be the source of our hope and joy. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend William T. McGrattan, D.D. Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2T2 Tel: (403) Fax: (403)
6 Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary April 5, 2018 Season of Easter Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development of Peace was established by the Bishops of Canada in 1967 to foster justice and integral human development in the southern world. The Diocese of Calgary has strongly supported Development and Peace through the annual Share Lent Campaign for many years, and most recently through our annual Together in Action appeal. Development and Peace fulfills its mandate in collaboration with more than one hundred partner agencies in the Southern World, contracting with them to carry out specific projects aimed at improving the lives of our sisters and brothers in many developing countries. Recently, serious and credible allegations have been made against a number of the southern partner agencies that they condone and even at times advocate policies and practices, which are not in compliance with Catholic teachings and, in particular, do not fully respect the sanctity of human life. For this reason, the Diocese of Calgary will withhold the D&P portion of the 2018 Together in Action donations from Development and Peace. The funds will be withheld until such time as we receive clear assurance that its partner agencies in the Southern World are in compliance with Catholic teachings and with the criteria of Caritas Internationalis, of which the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is the Canadian representative. In the meantime, we will continue to respect the intent of your donations to Together in Action, and we thank you for your generous support. Any individual funds received as designated for Development and Peace will respect the donors wishes but only be used to assist people in need in the Global South. I recognize that there are many people in the Diocese who give of themselves generously in support of the good works of Development and Peace, whether by donation or by assisting in the organization s educational and advocacy initiatives. Many individuals have supported these initiatives in good faith and it is my hope that these issues will be addressed to restore this. I write this letter in a spirit of transparency and accountability, and promise to keep you posted on developments regarding this current issue. Yours in Christ, Most Reverend William T. McGrattan, D.D. Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary WTM/mr Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2T2 Phone: (403)
