1 October 8, 2017 From the Desk of the Pastor 18 th Sunday After Pentecost Dear Friends in Christ: Our deep and heartfelt prayers are with the victims of the unthinkable tragedy in Las Vegas. I will not speak of the man who did these things, such men do not deserve our attention and they certainly do not deserve to have their names memorialized in the records of history. For men who do such things we shudder to even think of singing May their memory be eternal!, but we do trust that God will execute His divine justice. Our holy faith teaches us that for those who abuse, kill or torment in any way the innocent, they will have to face not the wrath of men but ultimately of God. On this topic, Jesus said that whoever causes the little ones to sin, it would be better if that person were to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around the neck (Luke 17). Amidst this dark news we must never allow our minds and hearts to be absorbed by evil, but to overcome evil, to focus on the light amidst the darkness and to rely wholly on divine faith and divine grace. In moments like this people turn to divine faith and divine grace. Here are some stories of people who performed extraordinary acts of love and sacrifice this past week in Las Vegas. I ask that instead of being stunned by the enormity of one man s evil, you make a point of allowing yourself to be edified by the following examples of goodness from so many: Arizona firefighter Kurt Fowler was shot in the leg shielding his wife from gunfire Jonathan Smith saved around thirty people before he was shot in the neck Mike Cronk stopped his friend from bleeding to death after he was shot 3 times Former Marine Taylor Winston stole a truck to take victims to the hospital Firefighter Steve Keys was shot while performing CPR on a woman he didn t know Sonny Melton died protecting his wife, Heather Melton, from the bullets Finally, Heather Gooze was a different kind of hero. She stayed by Jordan McIldoon's side as he died in her arms. "I didn't want him to be there alone," Gooze said. "I didn't want him to just be a no-named body... and now I had an obligation to make sure that everybody knew who he was. I ask you, what takes more courage: to sit on a 32 nd story suite and shoot a machine gun at strangers, or to stay amidst the bullets and perform CPR on a stranger? To vent anger pointlessly or to save the lives of others and take a bullet in the neck for them?
2 Which passions in my heart do I feed the most? When anger comes upon me, do I feed it or do I feed love? Revenge or mercy? The animal we feed is the one that grows. Lord Jesus teach us to be loving like you, to feed on your holy Body and Blood, that in moments of anger we may produce fruits akin to yours, fruits borne of courage, faith and love, never of rage, hatred and the diabolic. In Christ, Jason, priest and sinner New Things Happening at Holy Trinity A huge thank you to everyone for making our new kitchen a reality! Everyone is invited to come down and look at it after each Liturgy. Our next step is to have a large, attractive plaque designed to list the names of those people in whose memory donations were made for this great project. I wish to single out one person in particular for exemplary help in getting this kitchen project off the ground and through to completion: Mayda Medwig. Mayda has spent a great many hours planning the minutest aspects of the kitchen renovation, she has been our liaison with the designer and the contractor, she has been a research gopher for all aspects of commercial kitchen upgrades, she has been an answer box and a question machine. I thank her husband, Mark, and their kids for being so generous in sharing her with us these past seven months. Mayda, may God reward you richly for your selflessness in volunteering so much of your time and talent with your parish. May God grant you many years! Pyrohi Production is Back. Volunteers are always needed. Please call Stephanie Fedora if you have not volunteered in the past and would like to be a part of this vibrant team!!! She can be reached at or stephanie.fedora@verizon.net. The Kitchen Donations have reached $18,754. We would like to thank Bruce and Veronica Alstad for their recent donation! Remember to help out our handicapped friend, Natalia, in Ukraine! God sees and rewards! We now have 2 donation boxes for her, one in the vestibule and the other in the parking lot side entrance. Any amount helps! We send her $240 per month, but the past few months donations have sometimes not exceeded $50 per month.

6 September #5 Excerpt from Christ Our Pascha - Apostolic Tradition: Christ chooses his apostles and sends them to preach the Word: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you (Mt 28: 19-20). Having received the commission of Christ s Ascension and then receiving the power of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the apostles began to preach Christ and witness to him: This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses (Acts 2:32). Following the example of Christ the Teacher, the apostles transmit his Gospel to their disciples through the living word of preaching, calling upon all to preserve it; Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living within us (2 Tm 1:14). (#33) Prayer and Educational Events in Our Community Oct Public Square Rosary Rally: Please join us in union with about 20,000 rallies nationwide on the same day in the historic year of the Fatima Centennial ( ) to ask God to end abortion and save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother.
