1 August 13, 2017 Dear Friends in Christ, 10 th Sunday After Pentecost From the Desk of the Pastor This week s From the Desk of the Pastor will not contain spiritual or scriptural reflections as usual, but will be more nuts and bolts in preparation for the festival next weekend. However, in this practical letter I hope you will see that the spiritual and the scriptural are very much related to the most practical and mundane aspects of our lives. It is the spirit that gives meaning to our actions, the Word of God which gives direction to our feet along the path of life. 1) Feast of the Dormition: Monday evening Vespers w/ Liturgy at 7pm, then Tuesday Morning Liturgy at 9am. 2) Next Sunday s Liturgy: One common liturgy at 9:30am so as to give us time to prepare for the festival at 12pm. 3) Handicapped parking for next Sunday Liturgy behind church and rectory. Otherwise, all others please use the parking lots at our good neighbors and at the Boys and Girls Club. 4) Everyone, please read through the schedules in the bulletin to see where you have been assigned to the game booths and other areas, and when your assignment starts please arrive a bit early. 5) This festival is going to be A LOT OF FUN! To help make it a huge success, please consider coming before and after the festival as well to help with set-up and clean-up. 6) So many of the people who have helped us so far are not even parishioners. If you are a parishioner and are not doing your fair share to make this parish festival a good and holy event, then why do you belong here? To those who have legitimate reasons (weddings, age, illness, small children, etc.) then do not worry. You are doing God s will where you are. But, if you are able to help but are not doing so during these two days, then I ask you this honest question: What can I do to show God my gratitude for all He has done for me? Perhaps, a small way to show your gratitude to the God who saves us is by helping out with the nuts and bolts for a few hours at our parish festival? Let s see what happens. Jason, priest and sinner

2 New Things Happening at Holy Trinity: St. Josaphat Society would like to congratulate Yaryna Korenovska for being the recipient of the 2017 St. Josaphat Society Scholarship. We wish Yaryna God s blessings in her future endeavors!!! Electricity in the church hall is still progressing Air conditioning is complete! FESTIVAL Updates Pyrohi will be made for the festival on Wed., August 16 starting at the regular time. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to pinch, wash dishes, carry trays, etc. etc. Please call the rectory or Stephanie at Holubtsi (Stuffed Cabbage) Preparation will be on Thurs. August 17 starting at 10am (coring cabbage etc.). They will be made on Fri., August 18 starting at 7:30am. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help on both days!!! Halushki will be made early morning on Saturday, August 19 th. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to clean pots, help as needed, you do NOT need to know how to cook!! Please call the rectory if you are able to lend a hand.or two! Festival Parking There will be available parking in the parking lots of the following neighboring businesses: Swanson Group (to left of rectory), Capitas Financial (to right of church), Boys & Girls Club, and behind Lifespan Chartiers Senior Center (on Lincoln Ave. just east of intersection). Festival Bake Sale Items are a big part of the festival, but we need many more parishioners donating either bought or homemade items!!! The 16 th Annual Crusader Classic Golf Outing will be hosted by Bishop Canevin High School on Monday, Sept. 11 th at the beautiful Chartiers Country Club, (601 Baldwin Rd., Pgh). This is a shotgun scramble featuring 18 holes of golf, greens fees, complimentary golf carts, locker room privileges, box lunch, 19 th hole reception, signature Chartiers dinner cookout buffet, skill prizes, golfer gift bag, and more! 4 Designer Purse Bingo sponsored by the Bishop Canevin Girls Volleyball Team will take place at St. Margaret of Scotland Café on Sept. 17 th. Doors open at 1:30 pm & Bingo starts at 2pm. For tickets, contact Kristin: or A Family oriented Street Festival takes place on Doolittle Street between Alter Street and Duncan Way on the grounds of St. Andrew Lutheran Church & the East Carnegie Parklet on Saturday, August 19 th from 12 Noon 6pm. All day activities will include a variety of food booths, crafts, balloon sculpturing and children s games and activities with a full day of musical entertainment. Just a kind reminder for those who may have forgotten, that our parish supports a handicapped woman in Sambir, Ukraine (Natalia is her name). This is a good and holy work our parish does. Thank you to those who have faithfully given a little every month to pay for her food, shelter and nursing expenses. Whatsoever you did to the least of these that you did unto me. 12 Holy Trinity Festival August 19 th & 20th SIGN UP SHEET FESTIVAL SET UP Aug. 18 th TAKE DOWN Aug. 21 st Our dance floor, tent, 6 booths and game, and large inflatable will be set up by the companies bringing them to Holy Trinity on Friday Aug. 18 th. However, we need help with bringing up tables and chairs from the hall to the rectory front lawn, putting up 2 tents on the parking lot side, hanging colorful flag banners, setting up tables in the hall for food, bake sale, & Ukrainian Auction, etc., etc... Aug 19 th NOTE: The Holubtsi group will leave pans of shredded cooked cabbage for the Halushki group. MaryAnn Volanski will provide 27 lbs of noodles, 14 lbs of butter. The Pyrohi group will provide a 5 lb bag of chopped onions to make 7-9 roasters of halushki.
